Maybe, Pandya out and Karun Nair in.
My prediction is that other than bringing in Bumrah/ Karun Nair for Kuldeep, there won't be any more changes. May be a last opportunity to deliver results for some people.
I don't see Pandya being kept out.

Re: The Cricket Thread

My 2 cents:

you can pick anyone for the team. Then:

Arrange firing squads at boundary line. Snipers on rooftops. Assure the playing 11 ( Plus the ones sitting in pavilion ) in typical "Godfather" style that either their brains or victory will be on the field within the next 5 days. This tactic worked for Joseph Stalin in Stalingrad against similar odds.

I would rather drop Vijay instead of dropping Pandya and make Pujara open. Vijay is finished at this level and he should retire before he makes a joke of his legacy. With Pandya, we can atleast hope for a few runs down the order. Vijay is just a walking wicket, he has completely lost it.

Something like this gives us decent batting depth and reasonably competent bowling.

Pujara
Rahul/Dhawan
Rahane
Kohli
Nair
Pant
Ashwin
Pandya
Jadeja
Ishant
Bumrah

I would not mind that as well. Probably get Rahane to open instead of Pujara.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Well so Bhuvi is out of remaining 2 matches as well. What a wonderful news to loose your most potent weapon in these conditions.

Re: The Cricket Thread

1 hour into the game and it was all good with an unbroken 50 run partnership. Now lunch won't taste good for the Indians
During the 18th Over, Harsha Bhogle on commentary gave this info that the last time an Indian opening partnership in test cricket outside India that lasted more than 20 overs was in 2010...Gambhir and Sehwag in Centurion. The commentator's curse became a reality again when Dhawan was dismissed in the 19th over.
3 quick wickets and a review lost. Pujara wasted both his own wicket and Rahul's review. While Rahul got a beautiful ball. Dhawan was playing well till he got out as usual.

Re: The Cricket Thread

After the disastrous first 2 tests, I decided to give the third one a miss, so not watching nor following the score.
Only problem is that my daughter is a crazy fan so she keeps updating me with the score. She was very happy it was 60-0 which she told me after saying "You won't believe if I tell you the score....".
Few minutes later, she is sad and tells me 3 wickets are down. I'm not surprised but I'm still sad....what a bunch of overpaid, shameless cricketers, worshipped as super stars by a cricket crazy nation!

Re: The Cricket Thread

For someone who is a mediocre athlete and plays only one format, the way Pujara threw his wicket away is absolutely inexcusable.

I hope we see Karun Nair in the remaining two tests. Pujara deserves to be dropped.

Rahane gone as I speak, after a 150 plus runs stand with Kohli. Well played.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kohli out for a well made 97. Now I feel the team will fold up under 350. Not enough on this dry pitch in my opinion especially from the position India were in at tea

Re: The Cricket Thread

307 for 6 at stump. I think we lost 2 wickets more than we should have. Specially considering the partnership between Kohli and Rahane.

Let's see how much more can we stretch with Ashwin and co.

I don't see us getting much more than 350 any ways.

Re: The Cricket Thread

2nd ball six for Pant, eh! Maybe he'll get us to 400.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think we have messed up the selection here once again. Jadeja instead of Pandya would have been very useful here.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What is wrong with Pandya the batsman? He's batting in ultra defensive mode like Pujara. On the other hand, Pujara is asked to show intent & gets out playing a hook shot just before lunch!

What was good to see was the determination in some of our batsman, specially Rahane who looked his best in several months. Its a good thing Pant will be batting with the tail, we could be in for some entertainment.
