Re: The Cricket Thread

Still remember his first test against Australia in which de Villiers, Kallis and he saved a test batting from 4/77 overnight and ending day 5 at 8/248. He never lived up to the same high standards consistently. I feel sad that Faf has to bow out this way.

I fear South African cricket will dive into an abyss.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The quota system in their selection has hurt them real bad. I am nobody to comment on its necessity in SA, but the negative impact it has had on team selection in the past few years is quite evident.

At no. 4 in ODIs for India
Azhar 4605 runs at 40.39
Yuvraj 3384 runs at 35.25
Dravid 3226 runs at 35.45

Kohli has 1300+ runs at 55+
Dhoni 1700+ at 57+

Dravid perhaps also kept wickets in some of those matches.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Pant has lost his place in the XI from all 3 formats now. Mind you, he's been given a Grade 'A' contract!
While Samson has been relegated to the 3rd wicket-keeping option in the limited overs format.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Woah!!! New zealand is on fire today. Toying around with indian bowlers as if its a college level team. Each one(specially shami & shardul) taken to the cleaners

Guess India has the worst away record against this team. They are easily set to get 200+ . Hope India gives a good fight with the bat atleast.

Edit : So india needs 204 to win. Hope Bumrah's leg is fine after the twist. That's more worrying now.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India has been chasing well also. A bit surprised to see the flat deck in New Zealand though!

Anyone else felt Shreyas is heavily dependent on his leg side when trying to score quickly?

And did they respond

Lovely to see youngsters taking over even if the awesome twosome of kohli-sharma get out. Specially because this was foreign soil and a formidable NZ side.

Yes he is a onside heavy player but today had some awesome shots offside as well. Am sure he will be great going forward. India has a good middle order batsman in him.

Special mention for KL Rahul. From being a walking wicket not so long ago to what he is now. An absolute transformation. Somewhat like Rohit Sharma (even he was criticised initially in his career). He is a real revelation. Wicket keeping skills are a bonus. Tough times ahead for Pant and yeah Samson deserves a chance. Rahul should focus on his batting more (not that he is any bad) but having a specialist wicketkeeper batsman like Samson helps

Well this pitch had nothing for bowlers, add to that those smaller boundaries and that way even we were sporting shardul and dubey. Home conditions have always been an advantage for NZ side if you flip the cricket history books.

India has always had a dismal record there more often than none. Yeah it's too early in the series but a dominant performance by the batters today

Re: The Cricket Thread

Manish pandey does not belong in the batting lineup. He got off the hook because of Iyer today. Pant is a better bet.

Couldn't watch the match/highlights. Reading the scorecard, it seems fine since Pandey scored 14 off 12 with a 6 and we won with an over to spare. What are you referring to ?
Pant (based on recent games) is a hit or miss, not consistent and hence not dependable.

He is a proper batsman and finds it difficult to slog. He is best suited in ODI format and Pant in T20 where he can slog as much he wants to.
Good win today. Everyone played with purpose. Kohlis aggression rubs off on others too. KL rahul has matured a bit, if he keeps his consistency may get a test recall in future. For next match Saini should replace Thakur. Also Chahal needs more fielding drills and catching practice. Always a pleasure to play against NZ, such nice guys but tough to beat in their backyard. Without boult and Ferguson there bowling misses the edge.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What an amazing match between NZ and Ind to have ended in a Tie!
Shami came back wonderfully to defend 9 runs in the last over after a 1st ball 6
New Zealand's love affair with super overs continue...

Edit:
After Bumrah was hit was 17 runs in the super over, I thought it was over.
He had a bad day with 4 overs and 45 runs in the main innings. I felt Shami should've bowled that over.
with 10 runs needed off 2 balls, if anyone could hit it, it was Hitman and he delivered with two sweet sixes!
Wonderful entertainment!

Re: The Cricket Thread

New Zealand is jinxed when it comes to ties and super overs
This match felt like a New Zealand win so many times, even on the last ball of their 20th over of batting and again on the last ball of India's batting in the super over, they couldn't keep their nerves and we did which made all the difference

First win for India in a T20I super over and their first T20I series victory in New Zealand (after 11 years)!
