Hi. Which density mattress did you buy? Was it the 110 one? Are you still happy with it?

Hey hi there. It's been a while so I checked the invoice and it says orthopedic mattress so I guess we got the hardest. And yes we are quite happy with it. Taken it for granted now . Which I guess is a good thing. My cousin, I remember got a thinner variant and had it exchanged for the thicker one.

Re: Which Mattress To Buy and Points to Consider

Hi Folks
Let me start my 1st post here with a big Thank You to the members who have shared their experiences with the different types of mattresses and the brands. It was a huge help in deciding. Thanks especially to Thad for his posts about Foams India Pearl, his long and positive experience tipped us towards it and we bought it.

Deciding on a mattress is so confusing and not at all as easy as it used to be, especially as we age. In the good old days of youth we never bothered about the material, firmness, thickness etc. Not much choice too, only cotton/coir. Spring was a luxury one enjoyed during hotel stays. The sheer no. of options now is overwhelming.

I will share my mattress buying journey in another post which might help someone just like you guys helped me out. Thanks again.

Re: Which Mattress To Buy and Points to Consider

Keeping everything aside, one of the biggest points to consider while buying a new mattress is how to dispose your old mattress (even at zero value) as it is getting harder to do so. Unfortunately, none of the new mattress brands have an exchange program, forcing you to stick with the old brands with high prices and dated technologies.

Using this mattress since June this year and totally love the feel, comfort and firmness.

First couple of days felt very stiff but got used to the firmness and it solved my lower back pain issue.

Also bought their Smart Cervical Pillow which supports my neck very well and eased my spondylosis pain in the neck.

Would definitely recommend these two products.

Re: Which Mattress To Buy and Points to Consider

Ok here goes our story. We have been using Ilavam Panju mattress for the past 10 years, it was good especially for the Chennai weather, we never worried about its firmness. Once it was time to change the mattress, we got another made but this time it was like a granite slab. I don’t know what the bed maker stuffed it with, it was so hard and we thought ok, it will become better as we use it. After about 2 years it became a bit softer but still very very firm. I find it good in fact but my wife developed body ache upon waking up every day.

So, we searched for a new one and found out that since she is of normal weight she needs a medium firm mattress. So many offline and online brands to choose from. Online brands were very tempting since they offered 100days trial, but I was skeptical about how the response would be if we go for a claim and also a little hesitant about getting a 100 day used one.

It was during this confusing time that this thread pushed us towards Foam India Pearl mattress and so we took a leap of faith, thought we will buy a single mattress to test it out. Turned out to be excellent for her and she wakes up every day with a smile and I’m relieved.

But, there is an issue which I hope you could help out with. For my body weight I need a firm mattress and my wife needs a medium one. So how do we buy a queen size mattress? Anyone in the same boat?

Re: Which Mattress To Buy and Points to Consider

Hi,

I need suggestions for a couple of queen sized mattresses for our new apartment. We are mostly side-sleepers and weigh slightly more than what is ideal.

In our present residence (which we plan to keep), we use a Sleepwell Impressions mattress (memory foam) for the last 11 years. When we got that mattress 11 years ago, it magically got rid of all our bodyaches. It is old now, and we are still reasonably happy with it. It is a high class mattress, no doubt.

Naturally, the question is: why are we not getting the same mattress again for our new home? The answer lies in the current price. In 2012 we bought it for around 35k, and now, for whatever reasons, it costs around 80k or more for a similar size. We do not intend to spend that much for a mattress.

Upon some researching on the net, I have come to the conclusion that natural Latex mattresses are the best choice for our need, and Sunday is one of the better known brands for this kind of mattresses. Generally the reviews are also good with their 3rd and 4th generation (current) mattresses.

I am planning to get the Sunday Latex Plus 4 mattress for us, and if we are satisfied with it, intend to get the Sunday Ortho Latex 4 mattress for my son who lives abroad and prefers a slightly firmer bed.

We already have pillows from Sunday that my wife uses and is happy with. I use a single pillow (The Sleep Company Revlax reversible pillow) that goes very well with our Sleepwell Impressions mattress and my side sleeping pattern.

We are in Kolkata. We got the delivery of their pillows quite promptly. However, latex mattresses are heavy and Sunday does not compress or fold their mattresses during the delivery process, something that is good for the mattress. Are there anybody here using Sunday mattresses in Kolkata? How is the overall experience, including the delivery?

Re: Which Mattress To Buy and Points to Consider

Looking to replace the mattress after 8 years. Visited the Wakefit store in JP Nagar Bengaluru and tried out few of the mattresses they had on display such as Ortho Plus, Latex, etc.

Based on the website I see that - the Regular Mattress vs "Plus" Mattress pricing differs quite a bit - Example below:
  • Wakefit Orthopaedic Memory Foam Mattress - 6" : 15K
  • Wakefit Ortho Plus Mattress - 6": 24.5K

Question to people who might more experience - is it worth paying the extra money on the Plus variants of the Wakefit brand? The Store Rep said the "Plus" version has air channels in it which helps to keep the mattress cool. Any inputs would be very helpful.

Re: Which Mattress To Buy and Points to Consider

I got some Springwel folks over at my place today with some samples. We liked 2 of their products - bonded foam with HR + memory foam and bonded foam with latex. I'm inclining towards latex one considering its cooler. Then I came across Sunday latex mattress while reading some reviews and it looks quiet highly rated.

I've ordered mattresses online and I'm kind of skeptical about the fit and finish. Has anybody used Springwel mattresses before and has any review to share?

Re: Which Mattress To Buy and Points to Consider

So my 12 year old dual side pillowtop springwel mattress ( BAsically you can flip it vertically and horizontally) has been showing signs of aging and has developed a indent where I sleep. When I first bought it I just spent 30 mins at a local mattress shop and bought it cause it just seemed comfortable and just above the price range I had planned.

Fast forward 12 years, I'm 40 and my back is not as ignorant of my mattress decisions and has been asking for an upgrade and not just an upgrade it wants to go shop in the luxury segment. And so I have been looking at the best brands my money can buy - Sertas, sealys, Kingcoils, pep etc and also been researching like crazy about the composition i want - memory foam, hybrid, spring, latex etc.

So here are some take aways:

I'm 40 year old, six feet and weigh 87 Kgs ( so on the heavier side)and a side sleeper. I was looking for a medium firm to firm mattress based on my research that they provide the best support and comfort. Also heavier people should go for this range as they sink in deeper and with a soft mattress this feeling tends to get exaggerated.

- only foam or memory foam mattress were not appealing to me as I didn't like the feel of sinking in. I like sleeping on top of my mattresses and not inside them. Moreover, they felt weird when turning over as the mattress has no give back. Also I've never used one before consistently so it just felt weird. Another factory was that a website while I was researching gave them a low score for love making since they are not at all bouncy.
- Basic spring ( Bonnel) mattresses were too springy for me. Didn't provide enough support. Also they don't offer adequate 0 partner disturbance.
- Pocket Spring/Hybrid felt more like the space i wanted to be in. So basically these are the mattresses with Pocket springs ( individual springs and not linked springs) at the bottom with a comfort layers on top.

I tried a bunch of mattresses with various hybrid configurations and these are the ones I finalized:

1. King Koil Maharaja Grand: Pocket Spring with resilience foam. Priced around 50K. Felt nice but a bit too springy. Felt great if it was priced at 30K but 50K felt expensive for the quality. Also the top material didn't feel luxe.
2. Serta Perfect Sleeper: this mattress I almost finalized but since I didn't have my wife with me that day. I told the shopkeeper I'll come back and finalize with my wife. But that day I came back thinking that's the winner. It wasn't pocket spring was some serta posture springs ( basically sounded like a fancy way of saying bonnel) and had 4 layers of different types of foam. Felt like the right match for my back. Not too firm. And not too soft. They were priced at 60K. The way I justified it was If the mattress lasts me 10 years I'm basically only paying 6000 bucks a year for good sleep and that didn't sound very expensive.

- Peps Grand Palaise - had a few hours to kill and saw a mattress store so thought I'll go check out some more brands. Came across peps, the salesman was selling it hard over serta so thought I'd consider it. Felt great, infact better than serta. A bit on the former and less bouncy side but still very comfortable and more supportive. This had pocketed springs with memory foam layer and the top fabric was some viscose knotted fabric. Felt a notch above the Serta. Leaving that store left me very confused and wanting the better half to pick between this and serta. And this one costed around 65K.
- Peps Crystal - was nice too but didn't have the feel of the Palaise or perfect sleeper.

Now as I was leaving the store I saw a springwel store across the street and I was like why not let's give it a shot since my old springwel had served me quite well.

I went in rushed as in to just tick the box and tell my wife that I looked at all price ranges and move on my my front runners. The sales guy was very nice and I asked him pont blank that which one does he think is a better brand Serta or peps? I didn't even mention springwel. He politely said Serta hands down as peps quality has deteriorated over the years and they might shut down. I didn't take that seriously. And asked him if he has anything comparable. To which he responded yes maybe even better if you consider the savings. I said sure show me. Now in walks the Dark Horse.

- Springwel Eurosoft - It is a pocketed spring Natural Latex hybrid mattress. Now natural latex mattresses are premium-ly priced and have repeatedly seen reviews saying they are better compared to memory foam or pu foam. I lied on it and it felt really good. Maybe not as luxurious as the Palaise or as supportive as the perfect sleeper. But up there. And then he told me a 72*60 8" mattress could be mine for 33K only. Hearing this gave me the same feeling that I got when I first heard the XUV500 launch price ( the sound of brain and heart in agreement, the middle class eureka) and I started looking more at the positives of it than the negatives. It's a brand I've used, it has natural latex, I'm buying it from a brand store not a foam dealer, I get two free pillows , and it is a pocket spring. A bit of haggling later fixed the price at 28K.

I went home picked my wife and brought her back to the store. Told her this is the mattress were getting ( never mentioned the other ones) and asked her if she's ok with it. She was. And I paid the advance and came back home dreaming about the future goodnight sleep I'm gonna get on my new mattress.

Looking forward to posting a short term and long term usage review.

Am looking to buy the same one, and wanted to get your long term feedback. Can you please share your inputs?

I would say I am happy with my purchase. The mattress is very comfortable and does not heat up as well.

However, I also bought a memory foam mattress for my son a couple of months ago (link) and it is so plush and comfortable.

It is not as firm as the Sleep Co. ortho mattress which I have but definitely more or less the same level of comfort.

Hope I have not confused you.

Sir, given how extensive and detailed your original post was, it is only fair that you post a review of the mattress you bought.
