We too have a West facing plot. We have used white as exterior color, and a Hapus tree (8 year old now). Since am not aware of Bangalore, why not try online nursery.

Hi All,

One of my acquaintance is looking for 8,000 square feet of lawn carpet. We do get lawn carpets in Mangalore, however we heard that in Bangalore lawn carpets are cheaper.

Any idea where we can get in Bangalore ?

We had lot of pots on the terrace , I had planted tulasi, some flowering tree (in a big pot), and other small flowering plants which we wanted to use for daily pooja at home. I have observed that due to excess heat most of the plants die and moreover I stay in an apartment and other residents objected to use to the terrace space.

I plan on bringing those pots(which are dry now) to the balcony and corridor, use it to plant tulasi plants. The sunlight is very moderate , would it be ideal to grow tulasi plants?

Yes. I have been growing Tulasi plants in my balcony for close to 3 years now. They'll be fine as long as you renew the nutrients once in 5-6 months by adding compost.

Tulsi plants thrive best in equal amount of shade and sun. Best locations are where there is morning sun till around 11 and then shade. If you find the sun is wilting the plants, get a green netting and use that as a sun shade.

Our Mali, renews the earth in the pots every year. He mixes sand compost (or dung manure) and old soil, so that there is drainage, nutrition from compost and nutrients from soil. I have found that instead of "flood" irrigating the plants a small amount of water just sufficient to maintain moisture in soil is the best. Excess water will drain most of the nutrients from the soil.

Can anyone recommend a good rocking wooden chair ? This is my first exploration on a rocking chair, but getting confused a lot.

I have space for a rocking chair or a swing !!!

Scared to purchase the cane swings which we find on the roadsides ? Any recommended places to buy either a rocking chair or a swing in BLR ?

I have experienced quite a few since child hood. All that I can say is
. The swing legs have to be quite long
. You have to test the chair by sitting in it and rocking to see if it has a tendency to topple over, especially backwards

Here in Delhi, I have seen quite a few swings installed in lawns and balconies.
. All of them have a very sturdy fame, either Wood fro Gujarat variety or Steel Tube for others
. The platform can be any material, as long as the ropes/rods are sturdy
. In case of Gujarat variety which has wooden rods connecting the platform with frame, the pivots have to be heavy duty eyelets

I need one handy/manual core aerator to loosen up the soil in my lawn.
From where can I procure it in Bangalore? any idea?

Your best bet to improve soil aeration and overall health of your garden is to add earthworms. They do wonders for any garden and if you have the space you can make a vermicomposting setup too for your wet household waste

Thanks for the idea. I will start with vermi-compost first and hope that we trigger some population of earthworms in lawn.

Anyone out here has been succesful with having a vermicompost bin? I am asking as my mom had a bin in our farm, which was either attacked by rats or all the worms died due to excess water during the rains.

My query is how to you setup one, precautions to be taken, feed to be fed and harvesting of the soil. Any tips suggestions are welcome.

I think crotons have leaves with a specific shape.
