seeds less likely to work. Get small lawn mat - these come in sq ft. Cut about 2x2 inch pieces and place these in that area, with some gaps. The grass with cover the area in some time. That's how many do it. Alternately, get mats of grass for the full area. Rates for lawn grass can be about 10-12 Rs per sq ft, if in bulk.

I dont think sand was required there. Red soil is light enough.

According to Google, these sites provide good, organic seeds for vegetables and other plants.

https://nurserylive.com/collections/...roduct-reviews

https://www.allthatgrows.in/pages/app-support

https://www.ugaoo.com/knowledge-center/

Have no experience with any of them but have ordered some seeds.

Re: Gardening experts in Team BHP?

Hello gentlemen
I needed some tips and leads to growing lawn in a small patch at my place.
The area is 8×4 feet and has a pretty well grown jasmine plant and 3 ixora plants.

Earlier this patch was made of concrete as it served as a spot for parking two wheeler.
Now that i've got rid of two wheeler, i thought of getting rid of the concrete and have a nice green patch of lawn.

As you can see in the below pictures, a little bit of rubble is still there and folks at my place suggested that the rubble stay there and i go ahead putting spoil on top of that as it makes no difference to grow lawn. I wanted your thoughts on that.

Other things i wanted to get cleared are
1) is there anything that i have to do on the edges, as the soil will be in touch with the foundation of the house
2) As i plan on retaining the ixoras and jasmine plants, should i bifurcate them from the lawn using some tiles or cement/mud bricks or is it ok to leave them as it is
3) i was quoted 10-12k for the whole process by 3 people including all the materials. Is it expensive or reasonable?
Just to get things into perspective, the whole patch measures 8×4 feet and needs around 4 inches of soil to level.
4) if option 3 is expensive, i dont mind doing it on my own. I have time, money and enthusiasm, but is it as easy as i think it is?

I'm open to suggestions and new ideas if any. Any leads will he helpful. Thanks.

No clue about a lawn, but i have been on a garden bed craze and that space looks just tempting for one

Started two garden beds over the past couple of weeks. Morning free times were spent in digging and brick laying. It sure was no joke.

But the veggies seem to love it.

In one bed, i have brinjals, spinach and mint and in the other different types of chillies and basil.

Have plans to do two more.

After an earlier failed attempt at tomatoes, i am scared to start again but having luck growing them in the terrace using the hook-twine-clip method.

And have started to fiddle around with aquaponics, hydroponics and deep water culture as well.

And trying out something from youtube, upside down tomatoes

Fun times!

You have not mentioned any more details, esp why buffalo grass, or the area.

Have you checked getting lawn grass ? Around 12 Rs per sq ft.

Apologies for short of information. The area I am looking to cover is about 11,000 sq feet. This area has few fruit trees, flower plants, coconut trees too.
The intention of this specific grass is selected due to its low maintenance and sturdiness (walk or any such activities do not spoil the cover).

A tad above a quarter acre. Lawn grass wont be an option. Also, not very cost effective at about 10 Rs per sq ft in bulk. I have tried to get bermuda grass seeds online. But they dont seem to grow well. Not many germinate, and maintenance in terms of watering these can be issue (will need additional infra).

Re: Gardening experts in Team BHP?

Hello, I am trying to purchase a grass cutting and leveling machine for my backyard that is paved with interlocking stones. There is grass that grows from between the stones and starts looking very unruly. I am seeing models from Balwaan (Bajaj) etc on FK/Amazon but not sure which will be a good buy for use maybe once or twice a month. I need to be able to completely erase the grass - so a trim first and then a steel wire attachment that will buff it to near zero. I was hesitating to purchase a petrol based one because of the hassles of the engine upkeep, maintenance etc. I was thinking electric as my backyard is smallish at about 600 sq ft and this is a single purpose only.
I needed some guidance on a make/model recommendation from folks here. I saw an electric Stihl make but not much else.

I think these run off the home power supply, and need to be plugged in. How long is the power cord ?

Re: Gardening experts in Team BHP?

Any fellow member here who can tell me what the insect in the attached image is?

It's completely taken over a gooseberry tree in our home yard and we only noticed it once these started getting blown away in the wind and landing on our car and house.

Re: Gardening experts in Team BHP?

Photo is not very clear. Any chance of getting a better slightly more focused pic?

We get to see a load of bugs and crawlers in our garden and it's fun documenting them but not so fun when they are harming the plants. It's a never ending process. Strongest pesticide we use is neem oil based, though recently i have set up glue traps for my vegetable garden.

A few pics from the garden: (All pics taken with a mobile. So please excuse.
