So what are you searching for ?

1. Basic pots + soil/manure mix: corner nurseries
2. Different sources for different plants.
3. IAH seeds types are seeds suppliers
4. Many nurseries around the city. But the problem is that these plants will require lot of care. My experience is that they use lots of chemicals to keep the growth + stopping infections, so do not expect these plants from nurseries to stay the way there are, as they were in the shop.

You need to be clear on what you are searching for. If you can get the pots, and get seeds separately, then will help. This has been better for me so far. Seeds have got from different sources - some online (Trust basket etc), some from different sellers. Some from friends/relatives.

There are some nurseries in Siddapura area, Check these.

If you are fine with Sarjapur -Varthur Road, try MM Nursery or Madeena. They are super huge and one can easily spend a couple of hours there.

Madeena on Varthur - Sarjapur road for better selections and price.

I usually check out MM Nursery too, but end up buying at Madeena

I felt the selections are better at MM but Madeena is definitely cheaper..in general the prices at these places are 30 to 50% lesser than the local nurseries since they are mainly bulk providers.

We bought recently from "Make my Garden" (location) in Akshayanagar (off BG road, near DLF) . While I am not an expert, they have a very large collection and the staff was very knowledgeable. If you are via BG road, Akshayanagar side, the road is non-existent for the last 200m. Avoid this route if you have a low ground clearance car, especially if are already carrying some empty pots.

Re: Gardening experts in Team BHP?

Hi guys,

I needed your help on fixing my sick coconut tree. It’s about 15 years old.

Symptoms are:
1. a moist, wet patch along the trunk on one side only.
2. Base of the tree is chipping away and looks unhealthy.
3. Lots of what I assume to be weaver ants running up the tree.
4. Frequent drying/falling of branches.

Also I’d like to know how often to water the tree and how to take care of it in general. Attached are some pictures for your reference.

General inputs:

1. Any plant / tree: water to be provided at the edge of the tree - the point where the leaves end at. Reason: the part of the root that absorbs water is furthest from the trunk/stem. Watering is typically more often in summer, lesser none in monsoon, moderate in winter.

2. Coconut trees: white-wash/paint the stem with lime, for a height of about 6 ft. Has to be done regularly.

Thanks for the information. I do remember seeing the white stripes on coconut trees along the highway.

Re: Gardening experts in Team BHP?

Hello,

Getting such humongous heaps of leaves on a daily basis in my house. These are from Asoka and Guava trees. Effective disposal of them has become a problem.

1. Municipal workers are reluctant to service the same and it lies there for days together.

2. Confining them to fire has other non desirable after effects.

3. Decomposing through green methods has space constraint.

Looked up in Amazon for a vacuum cum mulcher. But these are all quite pricey.

Can members suggest any other cost effective solutions.

We have a lot of full grown trees in our garden and only practical option available for me is to burn them off in a pit. We use the ash as fertilizer as well.

Jackfruits, Wild Jack, Teaks, Mango, Indian Badam, Figs etc etc. So you can imagine the amount of leaves we collect on a daily basis

City corporation has set up dry leaf collection bins in and around the city but the sheer amount of manpower needed to sweep, collect, bag, transport, dump and get back is just mindless effort.

https://www.amazon.in/WOLF-Garten-26...s%2C421&sr=8-1

Works very well. And a no-brainer at this price.

Burning them off is not healthy, for the surroundings as well as for our lungs.

Of course they are not healthy. But what is a practical solution?

Re: Gardening experts in Team BHP?

I am searching for a cost-effective machine that can pulverize these leaves, which can then be spread on the soil. Will be a good fertilizer (since it is just bio-mass, and bio-mass in soil is very important)

I tried for something like this earlier and didn't find anything suitable+cost effective, I guess I had posted on this thread too.

One of the simple ideas I have for a DIY is to get a metal(zinc ?) drum and fix a 6" blade (bigger version of what we get in kitchen mixer jars) at the base of the drum and run this blade with a 750w motor, maybe something more powerful?
Will be like a large mixer jar when built.

Our problem with leaves in the garden has somewhat reduced after we cut down the coconut tree last year, but we still have a neighbour's avocado tree that sheds a lot of leaves in our garden.

Still haven't gotten around to doing anything on this though!
