Re: Calling all Team-BHP Farmers : The Farming Thread!

Lovely ! Me and a friend want to start a small farm somewhere close to Mumbai. Still searching for the ideal place. Should be 3hrs or less with proper access and most importantly water. Prices can be a bit crazy so hoping to find something sensible. If anyone knows of a place let me know

Thanks Mortis,

My colleague's brother has farms at Karjat, river touch properties 54 acres. He wanted to sell may be part of it. I don't know about price and other details. If you are interested I can share my colleague's contact details. I am new to the forum, I don't know how to send details to fellow Bhpian ?

Sure that sounds great please send me his contact info. Actually we had some farm land in Karjat that we sold about 18 years ago because we needed the money for my father's health treatment. 5 acres lake touch in Bhilavle, Karjat. Prices have gone up a lot in that area since then because of VIP farmhouses coming up there. I believe prices in that area are now 4-5 times the cost for 1 acre than what we got for all 5 ! Anyways it doesn't hurt to find out

Re: Calling all Team-BHP Farmers : The Farming Thread!

Question which is bothering me recently. Anyone on here has thought of or began cultivating Bamboo? Could you provide some insights you have on the same?
My query is with regards to the yields per acre and also the water needed for growth.
Also is there a market for the product or do we have to try create our own market?

The govt is trying to promote its growth and have some crazy numbers on the returns being thrown around.

Below is the link to a tissue culture nursery run by Mr Bharti who is a part of the National Bamboo Mission.

Re: Calling all Team-BHP Farmers : The Farming Thread!

Bumper produce of mangoes this year. The trees used to give produce every alternate year. But this year surprisingly all trees had mangoes all over. A single tree gave more than 1000 fruits and that too earlier than usual. Not sure if its a climate change effect. Zero pesticides or any such substance used on the trees. Now wondering what to do with these fruits.

Re: Calling all Team-BHP Farmers : The Farming Thread!

I guess this belongs more to the Gardening thread than here, but just trying here first
Can someone who has experience/contact for help to have a fully grown coconut tree (hopefully professional) removed from the garden at our home in Bangalore. Looks like the roots are weak (some hollowness at the base is visible) and branches and coconuts keep falling off, not finding anyone to harvest coconuts too so we just pick them when they fall off.

Could become dangerous in future if the tree were to crash down, since neighbor's home is close by and even one of our home's wall is about 6-7 feet away. This will need good amount of manual work with scaffolding probably since an excavator/other heavy machinery cannot enter with the space available.
