Blame Mr.Hirwani for that. He is one of the selector. Being a leg spinner himself he would have pushed for best leg-spinner in India currently. The problem is he does not know Sachin spins his leg-spinners better than this Chawla guy!

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

Probable XI :

1. Sachin
2. Sehwag
3. Gambhir
4. Kohli
5. Raina
6. MSD
7. Y Pathan
8. Bhajji
9. Zaheer
10. P Kumar / P Chawla
11. Nehra

Where's the place for Yuvi!?

His only hope now is his bowling.
With Kohli & Yusuf in top form they cant be dropped.
Gambhir too is in good nick

All Indian bowlers are actually just medium pacers except a one or two balls which may cross 130, they usually just avg to deliver around 125 kmph speeds.

The best thing about this Indian team is all the top 7 batsman (may be except Sehwag) can bat till the end from the time they land on crease and all can score at a very and I mean really really quick pace if needed.

IMPO we should just play Yuvraj insead of P Kumar or Nehra. Given the spinners Pathan much better than any other spinner (except bhajji) and is very consistent as well. Yuvraj, Sehwag and Raina can surely fill in for fifth bowler on current bowling form.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

This cup indeed is very open and its near impossible to say who will win it.
Australia seems to have found their rhythm in ODIs by thrashing England in the ongoing series.
Pakistan are on a roll after beating NZ in their backyard. And the way the team was playing yesterday, they were all gelling well with each other, except for Shoaib whose knee is still troubling him.
SA are also on a high after their one day series victory over india where they beat India comprehensively in all the games that they won.
Of course, India is a force to reckon in their own backyard.

Having said all that, all the above teams have their weaknesses too. Michael Clarke's pathetic form, SA's lack of spin bowlers, Shoaib Akhtar's injuries, the overall injury prone-ness of Indian players...

Its really anybody's cup this time.

True, we don't have express fast bowlers, but Zak, Nehra can bowl 135-140 with some effort. In 2003 WC, both were doing consistently 140+.

That will make it 3 bowlers + pathan + yuvi + sehwag + raina. It's a risky strategy. There is really no need to play 8 batsmen.
I would go with Hatari's team except for Yuvraj instead of Raina.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

Why is every cricketer selected for the world cup hell bent on gifting the world cup to Sachin Tendulkar. Every article published in the newspapers these days talks of winning the World cup for Tendulkar would be a nice gesture before his retirement. Frankly I dont recollect Sachin saying that he is going to retire after the world cup then why this worshipping?.
The only way Sachin can redeem himself is by winning the world cup on his historics on the field.

PS: I am not anti-Sachin just feel that he should be given his space for the preparations
