reach the venue early and enquire. the gates are far apart, so if shuttling is required you'll end up spending time there.
will the print out of the mail from Aero India which has UID and id card be enough to get the ticket at the counter or need something else too? And You mean Gate 9 will give tickets to them too, who booked online?

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Just back from the Airshow. Shajufx and myself went together however got split up due the different tickets. My experience with the Business Ticket went smooth.
Parking was is P8, to get to P8 just drive straight as if you are heading to BIA. After you cross the Air Force base stay on the Right Lane, and take the U-Turn where the signs says too. Stay onto you Left, there is a left turn which has AF Security men, they will check the check and the car. Then Allow you proceed to the parking area, which is about a 1~2 km drive around the campus. Huge parking space and marked well.
I reached by 9:00am. there was no Bus yet and crowd was gathering.
There is no line or system who would get on the bus first so its more like a rush for it.
Luckily the Air-force Personnel in charge at the sight saw the rush forming and informed those who would like to walk to the gate they can.
It is a short walk via the Tunnel and you reach the a security gate.
Here they check your bags with a sniffer dog. Next you walk a little more and get to the main security check where the scan the baggages , my Lowepro Fastpack250 was allowed in, i was only carrying the camera gear. I had the PnS camera in a belt pouch which they asked to remove and also get scanned.

By time i reached the barricades i was trying to find a good spot. ?issue is we cannot see the take off and landing. As mentioned by SJ the Civillian Static Display is blocking the view.
The spot i felt good was opposite the Swiss Cross sign. Gaps were present so you can catch a glimpse of the a few planes taxiing.

Water is available at the venue. RS 17 for a 1L bottle.
All in all it went smooth.
The only this is the parking charge for RS 80/- which i think is a racket. the Badges the guys had looked like scanned and printed from a deskjet.
Not sure about this and on checking with the Air-force guard he was not sure as the event is outsourced to civilian contractor

Its real fun to watch but standing in the heat is a drain.
photos to follow shortly,

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Whatta way to celebrate my Birthday

I was supposed to meet Anil and Amitoj, but missed them in the traffic. Since we didnt get the Registration ID mail, we found it a lot difficult to identify the parking and entrance gate. Here's how we did it.

Parked the car at Venkatala Parking, which comes just after the Yelanhanka traffic junction. Took the bus-shuttle and got down at the second entrance we saw (asked the bus driver to stop). Stood at the ticket-counter for sometime, until an AirForce guy asked people with Online Tickets to move ahead.

Submitted my camera and wifey's handbag at the security check-point, and stood in the queue for the guys to verify the ticket/ printout. The security didnt even take a proper look at the transaction printout, he just glanced it and sent me in - no # verification nothing. However at the women's check-point, the security did not allow my wife to get in. A little chat and she was in. We carried camera's, handBags and water-bottles without any issues; I even saw families carry food.

We waited at the exit gate (clearly marked) for the shuttle services. The bus at this gate just took us across the road (underground), into the opposite AirForce compound. 10 mins later, another bus drove-in and took us to Venkatala Parking.

I still have not received the Registration ID, and intend to go on Sunday on the Business Class ticket.

PS: Anil, Thanks for the pointers to get in; And Sorry for not meeting You at the Show.

Edit:
1) We were not charged for Parking.
2) Water, Coke and Minute-maid are available inside the venue.
3) There is also a stall (just after the VIP entrance) that sells Chicken Burgers, Noodles and stuff - the burger wasnt bad.

Naah Anil, We werent in the Business Visitor Area (How I wish). We only had access to the chicken-stall which was right-next to the Business Visitor/ VIP entry gate.

We got in at around 10:30AM, i guess we got lucky since we were escorted by a number of Business personnel getting-in. Yup, the network was awfully congested, even if it wasnt I wouldnt have noticed Your message on-time. The show kept me in awe.

Thanks for the Wishes, buddy.

And I still remember Your words for the previous meet at the CCD - the guy with the dirtiest car pays-up. If I had met You yesterday, I would have paid double the price.

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Thanks to Yajaman for giving me a lift today. Although there were lot of confusions with the sign boards and parking spaces, I had to find my way to the 'cattle class' entry which became a painful process. Believe me, its a total confusion all over the place right from the main gate security to the people inside, whoever is in charge of anything. You will never hear the same info from 2 people in uniform inside. I dont know whats going wrong and where.

1. Food items, not even water
2. Cigarettes
3. Knife or any sharp objects
4. Bigger bags
Nice shots there buddy !
Take off and landing can be perfectly captured from general visitor area on the extreme left, except jets that take off from the right, but majority are from the left. Prohibited things are just on paper. I saw people eating food from their own steel containers, including home packed curd rice, sambar rice etc. I spotted atleast 5 people smoking and even sharing the cig with others. Knife and other stuff is anyway not useful inside, otherwise even that would be carried by public, I am sure. Bags have no size restrictions. There are people carrying heavy bags inside, those did not look like camera bags to me. That much from the 'cattle class'. I have no idea about the business area.

Infact dont waste your time booking online and waiting for ID etc. just go to the venue, pay money and get tickets straight from the counter. I was made to wait in the common line with many others holding the online booking email printout. So, it never made any sens.

Same here, I even sprained my left leg walking from the main gate to the general visitor gate which was 3 kms or more. I had a huge group for company whoever waited with me in the cue for 30 mts, so never felt the distance. But on reaching the gate, as a slap on our face, we find tickets issued at the general visitor gate itself. What a pathetic co ordination there !!!!

You can print just the UID alone or the email itself. Anything is fine.

Thank you so much again. It was a pleasure meeting you after many months of interaction on the fiesta threads Sad to know about the parking charges, it should be a racket.

Luckily I was ready with my camera at 10.10am sharp and left the venue by 4.45pm. So, its almost full coverage of the day schedule. Got around 700 shots, all in RAW, will be editing them soon. There are already enough images here to give an idea, so I dont think I have anything better

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Went to the venue with dad at 9 30 am. Parked at P8 Venkatala. Shuttle bus service to venue. Security was really tight was checked almost 5 times.

Red bull stole the show of course. Those afterburners really give you goosebumps.

Some pics of the show stopping red bulls ,

Was there at today's show. It was an amazing experience. Will post the pictures soon if I've got any good pictures. BTW, saw one TBHP stickered Ford Fiesta at the P8 parking in the morning.

@Kaushik -if it was a Platium colored Fiesta with the LCLC on the boot below the number plate, then it was me . i was positioned opposite the Swiss Sign. I had a few guys behind me with some super large lens and Manfortto Gear , was it you?. I am planning on getting a T-BHP patch stitched on my Lowepro bag.

A very different view of the back ground scene at AI 2011.

Yesterday evening after the display a lot of bizjets departed Yelahanka, giving us a chance to view this pushback Indian style.

I think it was with LCLC stickers only. BTW, it seems we were standing very close-by, I was in front of the Grippen and F16 Static display, near that Big C-130 for the morning show and for the afternoon show I was probably behind you as there were already too many people standing at the barrier. Me too was with a lil' bit big lens only but not super large one. I guess I've developed some triceps carrying it whole day yesterday.
