Cats are in charge. There is nothing to be done but accept this.

Be glad that the cat has endorsed your choice of car; they are much fussier than people!

I would like to say that it should deter rats from getting in your engine compartment and eating the wires, but I doubt it, as I have seen our cats response to rats --- they just sit and watch them!

Visit your car in the night when the cat is fast asleep on the hood, and throw a glass of cold water on the cat.
(This will not harm the cat or the car, Just irritates the hell out of the cat since cats hate water)..
Do this for 3 nights and the cat will automatically stop taking a nap on your car.

Oil.

Oil your Hood. Makes Cat slip off. Cat gets annoyed and takes a different car.

Or

If you do see cat on hood. Scare living daylights out of cat. Cat gets the Point.
If not Repeat Attempt. Cat will get the idea.

carrying on from the superstitions thread..

repeat these words 'meoww meoww meoww', the number of times = your car reg. no. - everyday. This should irritate the cat's soul ( seeing someone else imitating its own voice so many times :P ) and it should stop the cat taking a nap on your car.

God.. what am I smoking ?

But seriously speaking, use the Nilgiri scent. Dont even think of using Chilli powder and stuff. The solution provided by Fillmore is the best - as cats get terrified of water.

@greenhorn - hilarious !!

Even i face this Cats sleeping on the roof, hood and under the car but i am quite happy with that as they keep the bloody rats away.

There is nothing much you can do, maybe the pepper/chilli trick will work. Or try putting an old bed sheet over the hood, atleast the marks can be avoided.

Usually they do this during winter, to get warmth and move on also, guide them to a more comfy and warm car, easiest way out

Please do not use pepper and chilli powder. Please be humane. A drop of nilgiri oil on the hood where it sleeps might deter it from coming there. Try it.
