I am not sure how they are planning the recall for India. Please check with your dealership about this and try to get it replaced free of cost.
The above bike has Brembo, it seems. This can be seen in the last pictures of his Bikaner trip (mud covered), that's strange, I thought BMW went with Hayes for their entire range.

It seems S1000RR does not have Brembo, while they've retained it for thier adventure platform.

Gurus can correct me if I'm missing something.

It looks like BMW branded Hayes.

Ones on my 1200 are Brembo. I recently changed the brake pads at something like 20k km. There was still material left for 3-4k worth of running. But didn't want to take the chance.

I also thought BMW has moved to Hayes for the 1250 iteration. But on the contary it seems otherwise. Taking about rear brakes. See the 6th picture from end in the below post ::

Yes. The rear brake remains Brembo for both 1200 and 1250 bikes. It's only the front that changed to Hayes.

Oh. BTW how much it cost for the 4 front brake pads? For us(Ducati) it is almost 15K.

Re: BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review

i believe the brembo pads which i bought from BMW were for 15-16k. They are expensive and aftermarket options from EBC are cheaper. I am told that the EBC pads are hard and wear out the disc sooner. I usually prefer to stay with OEM parts for all my vehicles.

Re: BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review

^ Regarding brake pads - I do believe that a full set (2 sets front+1 set rear) costs around 40K from the service centers which makes one think that perhaps the pads gotta have gold or other precious metals infused into them or something. Not my cup of tea.

I got a full set of EBCs for ~7K from the USA. Thing is, the 1200s like to chew up their rears much faster than the fronts. Something to do with linked brakes apparently.

The other option is brembo pads from sites like this but custom duties and shipping are a factor.

The third option is to goto a Triumph service center (or have a triumph owner do it on your behalf in case they don't do over-the-counter spares sales) and procure brakepads for the Tiger 1200. There are a few other bikes from Triumph that run front Brembo M4.32 calipers and rear <forgot model name> calipers so they have the same brakepads. They cost about 4K per set which is VERY reasonable, considering these are basically brembo pads with Triumph packaging.

Anyone faced any reliability issue with 1250gsa fuel gauge? It was showing 60km to empty and ran out of fuel at after 27km. Had to book an Ola auto to get fuel!!

Re: BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review

2nd Service Report - 10,000km/1 year Service - 4035 kms 28-10-2021

Though the bike had run quite low in the past year due to Covid and other personal issues, the warning triangle was continuously on, on the display, flashing the message that 1 year service needs to be performed. So me and another BMW 850GS owner rode down to Delhi to get our 2nd Service done. It is a full service and entrails all jobs including change of brake oil (which is scheduled for the initial 1st year and then subsequently every 2 years).

So with 4035kms on the Odo I reach the dealership of Lutyens Motorrad at Okhla, New Delhi. You can see the warning triangle on the screen -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-2nd-service-4035kms-28102021_1.jpg

Bike ready on the lift for service

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-2nd-service-4035kms-28102021_2.jpg

All the parts ready including 4L of Engine Oil (5W40 - API SN grade) 1091/- per liter, Oil Filter 1560/-, Crush Washer / Gasket Ring 50/-, Air Filter 2646/- and Brake Oil 250ml 426/-. All the jobs were carried out to my satisfaction. Lower engine guard plate was removed to drain the oil. The brakes were bled by automatic suction machine and hence took less than 10 minutes.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-2nd-service-4035kms-28102021_3.jpg

Though the Air Filter replacement was not essential but since it was dirty the service technician recommended me to go ahead with that for total piece of mind. The old air filter element -

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-2nd-service-4035kms-28102021-old-air-filter.jpg

Bevel Gear Greasing was also checked and found to be OK. The metal parts were sprayed with Wurth Bearing Spray to prevent any rusting inside.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-2nd-service-4035kms-28102021_4.jpg

Issue - Now my Front Left Suspension stanchion was seeing a very slight bleed. Usually dust or some particle enters the suspension oil seal and causes this. Even though it was a minor issue, it was agreed that the oil seal be changed pro-actively by the dealership under WARRANTY with no cost to me. A big Thumbs Up to Lutyens Motorrad and BMW for this.

The Front tyre was removed

490 ml of Telescopic Fork Oil was used from this 1L bottle

This total job costing around 7k was done free of cost under warranty.

The Software was also Upgraded to this new version - 022_007_020. This job was also was done complimentary. The software update takes place directly from BMW servers in Germany and took about 1 hour. All error messages disappeared after this.

Other Minor Updates

Saw this Baja Design Squadron Pro Fog Lights attached to one of the bikes recently. These cost around 30-35k in India.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-bmw-r1250gsa-2nd-service-4035kms-28102021-baja-design-squadron-pro-fog-light_1.jpg

Got similarly styled HJG Fog Lights from my local market. Build quality is surprisingly good, as is the beam throw pattern, from these 1200/- bucks a piece Chinese Lights. All fittings are of stainless steel and waterproof connector comes built into the light. They state to be 60W each with a brightness of 6000 raw lumen in each light.

Comes with Yellow detachable filters of quite a good quality

Attached these to a friend's BMW 750GS recently

And also replaced the pathetic OE horn with a pair of Hella's Black Pearl trumpet horns.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-hella-black-pearl-horn-installed-bmw-750gs-15112021.jpg

Maddog Wiring Harness Pro and Switch Pro was used for the lights which is fused with relay. Horn wiring was custom built by me and was fitted with a fuse and with a relay in place.

----------------

Also got a set of Maddog Alpha Lights (Rs. 9,749/- for a pair) along with Wiring Harness Pro, Mounts and Switch Pro and a set of the Hella Horns (699/- from Amazon) for another friend's BMW 850 GS

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-maddog-alpha-fog-light-kit-hella-horn.jpg

A closer look at the Alpha Lights by Maddog, Bangalore. Quite good quality, all SS fittings, individually serial numbered, using Nichia Japan LED's, with waterproof Denali Type connectors (so can be directly attached to the Cansmarts), 5000k warm white, 80W per pair, 9600 raw lumens (combined) having a beam distance of 300m and feature optics offering a combo of 70% spot and 30% flood pattern.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-maddog-alpha-lights.jpg

A closer look at the Switch Pro attached to the bike. Illuminates when on.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-maddog-switch-pro.jpg

The Alphas installed on the BMW F850GS

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-maddog-alpha-installed-bmw-850gs-03112021.jpg

My Verdict between these 2 lights detailed above - Though the Maddog lights are definitely slightly better, I would go for the HJG's any day for the cost to quality ratio.

Cheers for now...

Re: BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review

Well well well! Was searching for threads on the GS1250 and discovered your ownership review Dheeraj. I wasn't even aware you had bought one and it was a pleasant surprise to learn about this latest acquisition! What a wonderfully detailed and written thread. Very typical of all your threads Dheeraj. I read through the whole thread in one go and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have no grasp on the concept of "travelling light" so motorbikes and I do not gel. But if i were to ever own one this undoubtedly would be the one to get. I did especially like the "Kalamata Matte" one. Loved all the functional modifications you have made to yours. Come up with a name yet?

No update for a while now? Any trips planned? How is your Fortuner doing by the way? I sure miss my Obelix.

Thanks Manuuj!

No, not named this one yet. Maybe it's my new 'Falcon' after having sold my Fortuner. The Fortuner had completed 10 years and because of that utterly stupid rule in the NCR it was not possible to drive it in Meerut/Delhi. Took quite a hit on the resale for a vehicle that was still in brand new condition and had done only 58k kms. Also completed a 700+ km trip on the Beemer to Alsisar, Rajasthan recently, details ahead in the post.

------------------------------------

Updates

Sorry for not updating the thread for sometime now. Here are a few updates and recent trips -

Denali Cansmart Gen2 and B6 Brake Light

So my daughter came from Ireland in last December and bought me some goodies. Now if you like to keep any good Canbus enabled bike like the BMW, the Cansmart is just essential to enjoy a host of features that you do with the accessories. It seamlessly integrates with the original BMW switches and you can turn your lights on/off, adjust the light intensity, enable flashing on horn and control flashing with the dipper switch and host of other functions. I already had installed the Denali Sound Bomb Horn, with which this seamlessly integrates. The wiring for the soundbomb horn and the fog lights (and it's switches) were removed and replaced with this new set.

Kit Contents

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-denali-cansmart-b6-04122021_3.jpg

The Denali B6 Brake Light which can also be programmed for intensity and flashing. Even flashing on high engine braking, sudden obstacle braking, sudden deceleration braking, activation only after a certain speed etc. is also possible. Costed me around 8k.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-denali-cansmart-b6-04122021_4.jpg

Cansmart Kit alongwith Wiring Harnesses for 2 sets of lights, a horn and a brake light. All can now be seamlessly integrated with the original BMW canbus and controlled at your whims without the need for additional switches, wiring or relays. Costed me around 16k from UK (without duty). It's available around 20k locally.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-denali-cansmart-b6-04122021_5.jpg

Since I was going to install the Cansmart, also decided to change the round local fog lights, which I had previously installed, for a 2nd set of HJG FOG Lights with Twin Focus Lens. This is exactly similar to the Baja Squadron Pro Lights which I had mentioned earlier and which costs upwards of 25-20k now. As is visible in the photo, this one comes with a dual focus lens which is reversible. The lower diffused portion is for 'spread' while the upper clear portion is for 'spot' focus. This also comes with a detachable yellow fog light cover. Costed me 2.8K.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-hjg-twin-focus-fog-light-installed-13122021.jpg

The B6 light attaches to the rear licence plate with 2 sets of bolts. Can also be taped on with 3M high strength tape. But I opted for the former option.

Final resting place of the Cansmart and the wiring harnesses highlighted here. The Cansmart piggybacks inline on the original canbus connection taken from the TPMS system on the bike. No wire cutting.

Final programming in progress with my laptop

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-denali-cansmart-installed-12122021_3.jpg

The 2nd pair of HJG's installed lower down. The cover was later reversed after taking this photo so that the diffused side was on the lower side.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-hjg-fog-light-twin-focus-installed-13122021_1.jpg

Night view of the new lights head on. I have programmed such that the 2nd set of lights only turn on while the high beam is on. And that too is fully controllable by the OE turn indicator switch whether I want to keep, either light, on or off.

BMW R1250GS Adventure Pro MY2020 - Style HP - The Comprehensive Review-hjg-fog-light-twin-focus-installed-13122021_2.jpg

Night View of the B6 Brake Light. This is at 10% intensity!! Yes, you read it right. It is so bright that I had to set it at 10% on riding mode and 50% on braking mode. Blows the stock brake light out of the park. Higher Visibility = Higher Safety on 2 Wheels.

Alsisar, Rajasthan Trip - 712 kms - 24th to 26th December 2021

As my son and daughter both were here in December from Ireland, where they are now employed, decided to do a nice family trip with our group. We were a total of 41 people with 12 bikes and several four wheeler.

All set to embark

Got a friend a pre-owned F850GS Adventure recently. Done only 11k kms and in brand new condition at quite a good deal. The weight and bulk of the bike, however, is nearly as much as my bike.
