Good suggestion, but the only fly in the ointment is that Mysore road traffic avalanche. People would find the SH17 traffic anything but a relaxing drive. An alternative would be to take NH-209 detour to Mysore and KRS, but distance might be overkill.

Its not that bad nowadays - I'm travelling every weekend on these roads and it doesn't take more than 2-2.15 hours to reach NICE road from Mysore. Even with sedate driving.

Oh ok. I was actually referring to Sunday morning rush (towards Mysore). Especially in the mornings it has become like outer ring road. In fact worse than that. 2 weeks ago I'd been to Ranganthittu and thereabouts; on both going and returning directions, we got royally stuck at that Ramanagara signal for more than 20-25 mins. And then there are the overcrowded eateries and infamous speedbreakers as well for every 1-2 km. Hardly makes one feel it is a highway.

Anyway, rants aside, there was a suggestion earlier by brraj for KRS backwaters, where there are large grassy meadow areas near the waterfront. If people agree for the distance part, this would be a good option. Could you help with the location? How accessible is it?

Take the right after Srirangapatna in Bangalore-Mysore highway. Follow the signal boards till you have to take right to reach KRS dam. Once you reach there ask locals for the route to Blue Lagoon as there are no sign board. It is 7 kms from there.

How about this?



It is Shettihalli Church on the backwaters of Gorur dam.
200Kms and approximately 4 hours drive one way
This photo was when it was dry. now it will be half submerged (Again beautiful) One can take a coracle ride inside the church now.

Very close to this is the Gorur dam (small yet beautiful). So one can pay a visit to both the places

One more thing: This road is not Mysore road!

Better avoid Mysore road on weekends , unless you plan to start by 5am and return after 7pm from other side .

weekdays are fine , i travel tuesday to bangalore and back to mysore on thursday every week.
