Looking at a weekend in November mid (either 11-12 Nov or 18-19 Nov).

Who's up?
Both weekends work for me but I prefer the 18-19 one.

Re: Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands

Indeed it's time to meet again and I missed the first meet as I was travelling to India back then. Unfortunately, I am travelling again this November and can I request if it is possible to have the event planned on one of the earlier weekends? Additionally, Nov 11-12 is the Deewali weekend and I guess some folks may be busy with that?

Re: Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands

Hello guys

My wife and I are in Almere,Netherlands till end the June, 2025. We are staying with our son and D-I-L and have already got familiar with driving in NLD. They have a Tesla Model 3. I have an IDP.

I need inputs on scenic places to drive through in NLD and neighbouring countries. I could see that the re-charging infra is really good here, so recharging every 300 kms will not be a problem.

Your inputs please.

Note: We have already driven to Zaanse Schaans, Haalem and Utrecht, and taken a train to Amsterdam.

Bump bump!

I also need inputs on acceptance of credit and debit cards issued in India over here in NLD. I visited Albert Heijn and none of my cards worked---the mastercard credit and debit cards, and also the icici forex card. Luckily i had cash. The cards were also not working at Mannekenpis fries outlet in Amsterdam, but they worked at an Indian grocery store at Almere.

Any inputs will be of great help.
Thanks in advance.

You will find that many shops in the Netherlands don’t accept credit cards. Credit cards are usually accepted at hotels, some luxury stores (e.g. jewellery) and so on.

Debits cards are accepted everywhere, providingt they are Maestro or V PAY card. Which are more or less the norm in Europe and in many other countries.

I am not sure why yours is not working everywhere. Debit Mastercard and Visa Debit are generally not accepted!

There is plenty of scenic places to go and see in the Netherlands. In general just stay away from motorways and provincial roads and you will find yourself on lots of little rural roads.

From Almere, go east towards Zutphen/Deventer, drive along the river IJssel.
You are also near the Veluwe, a huge area of natural beauty. There are several roads passing through.

If you want to go to Germany and or Belgium I would susggest spending a day or two in Limburg around Maastricht as well. Very different landscape from where you are, with lots of rolling hills. From there within an hours drive you could be in the Eiffel or the Ardennes.

Enjoy!

Many thanks Jeroen! Do you reside in Holland?

As regards avoiding motorways and provincial roads, how do i do that? For example, I have put Veluwe as my destination, and it shows 3 paths: one via N302, another via N305 and the last via A27 and A1. I guess the A's are motorways, what what are Ns? Are they provincial roads?

Yes, currently in the Netherlands.
Not sure what navigation device you use. I use a TomTom. I can plan avoid motorways and the. I will adjust the route to avoid provincial roads as well.

We live near Gorinchem, in the most western part of the Betuwe. Another gorgeous area, especially the next few weeks with lots of fruit trees in bloom!

Thank you. I use the default map on the Tesla--it is quite accurate. I will try to tweak it to follow your suggestion.

Can you please clarify the difference between motorways, expressways and provincial roads in Netherlands? I see some have a prefix of 'A' and some have 'N'. I guess these are main motorways and expressways. But how to identify rural roads?

There is no difference between motorways a d expressway in the Netherlands. They will have a prefix A or E. If an E it is part of an European motorway passing the border.

All provincial roads have a N prefix. Smaller, rural roads have no prefix but tend to have a regular road name.

Most if not all motorways in the Netherlands tend to be pretty boring. Provincial road tend to be a lot more scenic already.
