Re: Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands

Since I have a baby at home (and things can get quite unexpected), I prefer to be in my car along with the friend who is joining me. This way, if anything we can just ride back from wherever we are, if a situation arises.

Re: Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands

How about we update the attendees list with the preference to drive or pool, so that we can make a pooling list- hence reducing the number of cars and getting more time to know each other?

For now, 4 cars are part of the convoy (Jeroen, Stratos, Karthik & myself). However, if someone else must take their car with them, I don't mind leaving my car at Buren (as long as someone can drop me back there )

Sindabad.sailor - Just meeting at the start point

Driving

Jeroen- Jaguar/Merc

Co-passengers
  1. UP!!!
  2. Seat Available
  3. Seat Available

Carthick1000 - Tesla Model 3

Co-passengers
  1. Seat Available
  2. Seat Available
  3. Seat Available

govindremesh - Nissan Leaf (or a similar e-car)

Co-passengers
  1. Seat Available
  2. Seat Available
  3. Seat Available

Stratos +1 - Car unknown - No co-passengers.

To decide on driving/pooling:

SuperBee - ?
the_real_slager + 1 - ?
Kraftwagen - ?
avinash_clt + 1 - ?
Deepakc/BlackPearl- Awaiting confirmation.

I will return to Belgium post my work-related travel on 23rd (Wed) and will get to know if I need to be in quarantine or not only by 24th. Previously there was a clear separation to indicate business vs private travel when you fill in passenger locator forms upon return and also prior to departure. This has recently been abolished, making it difficult to predict need of quarantine beforehand.

If allowed to travel, I will join with my partner in a separate, fairly small car

Hi Guys,
I have just send a mail to everybody who send me his details. You will have received a PDF file with some more information on the route and the various locations.

Also, the latest revision of the GPX route file (revision C). Do try to get that going as it will be a lot easier if everybody can find his/her own way.

The weather looks ok-ish. Temperature will be fine, but we might have the occasional bit of rain. Still three days to go. A lot can and often does change in the Netherlands weather wise.

If you, for whatever reason can’t make it, do let us know, someone else might be able to take your place.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Jeroen

If anybody has managed to get it into google maps could you please post here how to?

Re: Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands

Hello everybody,

Sorry for not keeping you updated. I had a family emergency due to which I had to rush to India all of a sudden. I’m right now in India, so won’t be able to join you all tomorrow. Sorry for letting you know so late, but it’s been a crazy couple of weeks here. I was very much looking forward to meeting all you fellow bhpians. Please discuss about having a regular Team Bhp meetup for the BeNeLux region. I’ll definitely join you all the next time.

I've managed to import it in Google Maps by following these steps:

1. Open Google Drive> New> More> Google My Maps
2. Import the GPX file using My Maps
3. Save the generated Map. It's accessible on phone by navigating to Google Maps>Saved>Maps

I'm not able to get turn by turn instructions using this approach though, but it will serve as a static route map for navigating the old way

I've sent the Google Maps link via e-mail to all of you. Hope this helps!

Hello All,

I will be coming with my partner in our C300. We might have to leave late afternoon so carpooling is not practical for us.

Regards,
Kiron

I did the google my maps method few days ago at first and noticed that turn by turn navigations are missing, which govind confirmed as well in this morning's post. As you see below, google uses it's own planning algorithm and not uses the gpx trace (Room for improvement: Google, Tesla and apple maps ).

Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands-1.jpg

Hence I looked for few alternative tools and then eventually found osmand maps, which seems to be the most interesting one which can trace the gpx routes and provide turn by turn navigations. I downloaded it here osmand for ios (also available for android). For the free tier you can download upto 7 offline maps, out of which I choose for the 3 interesting regions (atleast for this trip, Noord Brabant, Gelderland & Utrecht). Their free tier is already pretty much extensive.

If you install this app, you can directly open the *.gpx file with this app (I will show how I did it for ios).

Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands-1a.jpg

Then the gpx file gets opened as a 'follow track option', but it will directly send you to directly to destination or via the partial gpx trace, depending on where you are coming from. In my case, it planned via the partial gpx trace to destination.

Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands-2.jpg

Now you need to tell the app to follow the whole trace. This can be done by selecting options from the planning page:

Then go to Advanced>Follow track and toggle pass along entire track to ON.

Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands-3.jpg

Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands-4.jpg

Now the app should navigate you from your location to the starting point of our gpx route and then follow the planned path very nicely.

Team-BHP meet in the Netherlands-5.jpg

Now you should be able to get turn-by-turn navigations from your phone for our trip.
