Hyderabad : March'09 Drive Meet

Alright guys, summer has already set-in and before it gets scorching hot, let's do a drive and lie low for rest of the summer ( which knowing you all seems higly unlikely).

After so much deliberation and options flying right left and center, we still seem to be confused about where and what will be our next meet. So allow me to make it as simple as it's possible. Here we go :-

Proposing couple of day options and depending on which date works for a majority, let's pick out that one. Also, proposing the same old destination but with a slight twist with some chillies.

Let's plan for a drive to Nagarjunsagar Dam ( i know it's been beaten to death but what the heck ! ) and this time, let us reach there before 1:00pm, so we can take the boat cruise to the island in between and check out the measuem and back on shore at 3:30pm.

Last Cruise Ship ( i prefer this word over a boat) leaves at 1:00pm sharp and after that no more cruises for rest of the day.

Before taking the cruise, we should inform "Vijay Vihar" to prepare our lunch and keep it ready, so we can come back and have hot food ready.

After that late lunch, leave Nagarjunsagar at around 5:30pm and reach home by 9:30pm.

Destination : Nagarjunsagar Dam
Distance : 300kms ( Both Ways)
Advantages : Very Sparse traffic and quite good roads.Beautiful Scenary, Great Food in Vijay Vihar especially their Fish Fry and most importantly, the 45-minute boat ride which costs Rs.35/head which will be the highlight of the entire trip.

So, folks add in your names for whichever date works for you.

how far is ethipothala falls from the Dam site? i think this was mentioned sometime before as a suitable destination. If we're going to spend 3 hours on a boat and island, i'm only suggesting this could also be an alternate destination for the same time frame.judging by the pictures online, it does seem interesting as well.

Sorry, dont wanna confuse Avi's suggestion too much coz its a worthy one as well.

Edit : just checked its only 16kms away!

Arun, as you rightly said, its 15kms from Vijay Vihar and easily coverable in our trip provided we reach Sagar by 12pm.

We have been to these falls during our last sagar drive in 2008. It's a nice place to visit and since there is nothing much to see can be easily covered in 30 minutes or a little more.

It doesn't take more than 30 minutes to visit unless we decide to take a dip in the water and also, there is a pathway which leads to some temple after crossing the water!

Anupu

There is another place called Anupu which is about 15 KM from Nagarjuna Sagar. One takes the right to reach Anupu at the same point that one takes left to reach Ethipothala and Macherla.

At Anupu there is an excavated (reconstructed) buddhist university. The whole township including auditorum, stadium, stupa, living quarters etc, has been re-constructed. It is very fascinating and beautiful. Very 'off the beaten path' but sees some serious scholars from all over the world visiting.

Oh please add me as a probable to make it:

By the way Mobike, did you notice that the two weekends after 15th March are long ones? If ok with all we could do it on the Fridays.

Cheers,
