Check the low-pressure fuel pump inside the tank. Either a failure of the pump, or a choked suction-end filter.

agree: Points to a minor choking in the fuel line. Best bet is to check the fuel line and replace all the flexible hoses and filters. At the same time the fuel tank itself should be checked for sediments and cleaned if so.

There is a problem with my 2010 SLE. Thrice in the last week or so the central remote locking "failed". The situation is that I lock the car using the remote and it locks with one beep. When i come back to the car, and press the unlock button, the green light on the remote blinks but car doesnt unlock.

Then I use the key to open the door and it opens with no alarm going off!!! Ofcourse,. the car cannot be cranked cos the immobilizer is on. This happened in a small town about 400 kms away from bangalore the first time, just as Murphy would have liked it.

I accidentally found out (after spending 30 minutes in the hot sun) how to fix this. I open and close all doors one by one, locking them with the key (other than the 2nd row doors). There is usually a "culprit" door which when locked, in turn triggers the central locking to lock all doors(This was followed by the car alarm going off on one of the three occassions). This doesnt always have to be the driver side door. One two occasions the cuplrit was the rear boot door.

Once the central locking triggers with this door-open close repair routine, i can then use the same god forsaken remote which failed to work all this while, and unlock the doors, hear the familiar 2 beeps and crank the engine.

The first time this happened, I took it immediately to a authorised dealer who had a laptop and an enthusiastic electrician but he could not come to any conclusion. He told me not to press the button (on the remote) "a lot". wow! how does one press the button a lot? I mean, why would someone do that? Anyway, I got charged 165 bucks for this. The car battery is in top condition and so is the remote battery.

I am not sure if someone else has had the same issue but if it happens to you, use the method posted above. It saved me a lot of grief.

Oh and the numbers for mahindra road side assistance changed. The ones they etched on your key dont work. If you call the new number, they ask you to call the dealer closest to you. So it is better if you keep your dealer network booklet in the car all the time and pray the dealer has not changed his number. Well, atleast if you know the dealer name you can google it.

Finally my Hella HID auxiliary light arrives tomorrow and I am looking forward to get that installed at the earliest. Does anyone here has any experience of fixing auxiliary lights on the standard bullbar of the Scorpio? I would like to install it on the top steel bar at the middle which has a flat top. I did check and there is no hole that can be used readily. Do I need to drill the holes? Can that be done locally or we need to take it to a lathe.

Also I need to do something to secure the auxiliary lamps. Keeping in mind that the lights are pretty expensive and I will not like to loose them, I am thinking of using the breakaway nuts which once tightened will break away from the head portion to make it permanent. I plan to use this on the outside of the normal nuts so this will also work as jam nuts and avoid loosening in the longer run.

Let me know what you all think about the same.

Past few weeks, i hear noise from back side of Scorpio and same was checked with A.S.S but they just sprayed the boot door but i still hear the noise from left side when i cross humps. Its kind of dual sound - kat kat. Not so sure what's going on but if anyone has any istances of same nature then please do let me know so that same could be rectified.

There are some sounds which are highly irritating and dont seem to be identified or go away.

Last 4 years I have been trying to identigy a tic tic noise coming from the region of the front passenger seat but no avail please:

Chek out the Door locks as this was my culprit. A.S.S just reversed the metal hinge holding the locks and no more sound observed.I also thought it was from back seats but its not the case. Same i used to hear from Drivers door and that too was the same culprit.Sometimes roof mounted racks also gets loosen to check that bit it might help.

Are you sure this is not the AC cut out sound(comes from around the glove box area)?

On my Scorp, the back rest of the passenger seat makes dad dad on pathholes(we can also hear this sound if we shake the back rest with hands). When someone is occupying the seat it doesn't, but when there is no one to lean on it, it vibrates. Do not know if that is fixable, will get it checked during next service.

I am pretty sure that it is not the AC, it comes from the region of the passenger seat, could be from the door.

For loose seats -
1. Tighten all the bolts. Check if the sound is still there. If so the
2. Take all the bolts off. Cut strips from an old tube, if not available get a piece of rubber from accessory shops. Use the strips as spacers between the seat rods and clamps. Tighten the bolts.
3. In case the seats are bolted on directly, use spring washers on the bolts and rubber padding underneath to secure the frame tightly.

For loose back rest -
1. Find a length of rubber hose which will be a tight fit in the head rest hole.
2. Now push the hose into the hole, and then push the head rest shaft into the hose. In case there are detente for adjusting the head rest height, then cut a slit in the hose on the detente side.
Normally this should solve your problem. Else you will have to take the seat out and repair the mechanism in the hole where the head rest goes in. Many seat cover installers can do the job.

Hi all

I have a 2003 Non-CRDE 2.6 DX Chain Drive Scorpio, which has done 90,000 kms.
I was supposed to leave on a trip Delhi-Srinagar-Leh-Manali-Delhi today ie Sunday 17th June but it we have postponed it by 2 days and will now leave on Tuesday 19th June.
For preventive maintenance the following things have been done over the last couple of years.
1. At 70,000 New Battery, New Brake Pads
2. At 60000 I had got my Suspension done although the MASS guys told me there was no need. All ball joints bushes etc were changed.
3. At 60,000 kms I had changed the Cross.
4. At 65,000 kms the Main Belt and Power Steering Belt were changed
5. At 70,000 kms I had got all Rubber Hoses and Fuel Pipes Replaced as preventive Maintenance

Before leaving for this trip I got the following done

1. Got My Scorpio Serviced at the MASS (Mahindra Authorized Service Center), got the Belts, Idle Bearings checked. Everything seems fine.

2. My Scorpio has done 90,000kms and the rear brakes were never opened. I insisted to get it opened from my trusted neighborhood mechanic. The Brake Shoe leather was worn on some sides. The brake shoes were changed and the drums were turned. When they were fitting the drum back they noticed that one of the Brake Wheel Cylinders had a jammed piston. We replaced both the Wheel Cylinders from the Original KBK to Original Bosch (Bought from MASS). The brake pedal has come up and the brakes are better. Has anybody else got Rear Brakes done and after running how much ?

2. Randomly once in a while my self would not fire on turning the Key. There was a Tak Tak noise which came from the Self inside the bonnet. The MASS people told me it is a Solenoid Switch problem and the self needs to be serviced. They told me it would cost around 6000. One electrician at the MASS told me he has a new Solenoid switch and he would replace it underhand for Rs 1000. I refused. I went to my trusted neighborhood mechanic & electrician team got the self serviced and a Solenoid Switch replaced (Aftermarket Bosch). The problem persisted. Once in a while the self would not fire. My mechanic made a direct connection from the battery to the self and it would fire every time. His diagnosis was that as cabling goes old and the Ignition switch goes old they have increased resistance and the current through this that finally reaches the self is sometimes less. He advised to cut the Self Cable and run it through an original relay used in Tata Vehicles for the self. We have done that, and for the last 1 day the problem has not reoccurred. He tells me that with the relay, the Self will get proper current every time and this is a sure shot solution. The problem seems to have got fixed. I want to know from others, has anybody got a relay fixed for a Self in a Scorpio ?

Anyways I am feeling more confident about my vehicle now and ready to leave for the hills in 2 days.

There is one point which you haven't mentioned, how are the tires and how

old are they?

When your electrician checked the self, did he also check the working of the pinion that comes forward from the solenoid and turns the flywheel? If its teeth were ok, you should not face any issues now.

Also, doing a Leh circuit is simple with a Scorpio but keep in mind a few things like parking your vehicle on a slope at night so that you can easily push start it if required in the mornings, covering the radiator grill with a sack to keep the engine as warm as possible and a set of commonly used tools handy.

All the best and drive safe.:thumbs up

Hi Devdath,

Thanks for some great advice.
The Bendex of the self was replaced about 2 yrs back, and it is fine. My mechanic was pretty confident that since he has just serviced and seen everything in the Self, everything is right there. Just installing the Relay seems to have sorted it out. His reasoning was that with time the cable gather carbon, and the points in the switch is a little worn out so it doesn't throw the correct amount of Current. Installing the Relay solves this.

I changed my original Bridgestones with Tubes after doing 62000 kms to Hankook Dynamic RA03 Tubeless just before my Leh trip in 2010. They are 30000 kms old but still in pretty good shape. I actually was very happy with these tyres during my last trip to Leh. A couple of pictures of the tyres that I just took are attached here.

Thanks once again.
