But onto your silver lining. Engine-wise, you have the following choices:
1. Alto/Wagon R 1.1, 64 bhp, 5 speed.
2. JDM DOHC 1.1, 5 speed. Does about 9000 rpm carbed -- seen this personally.
3. Esteem engine. 85 bhp stock. Lots of mod potential when you have the time and money.
Hi, I am interested in souping up my SS80, what would be the approx costs for the engines mentioned and what else do I have to get along with the engine to make it work? Do let me know so that I can plan for the $$ for getting it done.

No clue dude, I don't have the first idea of what Suzuki engines cost anymore.

Speak to this guy -- his name is Santosh. He was the first to do a lot of such swaps, including a 1.1 twin cam in his own 800.

I went through the entire thread and have to say that it was a painstakingly done job which turned out beautiful. The car looks very cool indeed and congrats for your patience and diligence.

But the irony is, this car of your is not actually an M800 original because except for the outer shell almost everything is replaced with something new and with good reason.

Oh! Sorry to hear that the car is going to be parked for some time. This car was my all time favourite on the forum.

I would also suggest an Alto/WagonR 1.1 engine. Its got 64 bhp, and a very good low to midrange. Not rev-happy though. Would be easier to find as well.

sorry to hear about the car edmund.

This has been one of the first thread that had me hooked on to TBHP since i owned my beloved 5-speed Mpfi. 800 . i had contemplated doing her up before I sold her and picked my lancer

Hope she turn out meaner and stronger than before.

i think the alto 1.1 heart would be a more sensible option
anything beyond will be an overkill IMHO.

I located a Maruti 1000 1L engine for 11k, but got my heart set on the 1.1L!

waitin!

man that's the first time i have read such a long thread thoroughly! you really have a lot of patients to go through all that mate. any one else would just deem the car useless and go on with a new purchase. but it is just so rewarding isnt it? building your car from scratch! a new engine will definitely make up for all the loneliness you face now. cheers bro. looking forward to a meaner exhaust note on your next video! chao

@rajath: thanks for the good words!

Bombay peoples! How good an option is Chor Bazaar for an engine? How do you know for sure what you look at there is good? Will it start? etc!

Chor bazaar looks promising, but IMO, its a little overwhelming to the average person ! Everything is usually available - but don't know how to get a good deal and also not get ripped off!

I and fellow bhpian dinar had gone to Chor Bazaar to look out for some used parts - it was very difficult to know where to ask for - and the prices quoted were not exactly as per what we expected from chor bazaar - maybe that could be attributed to the fact that we could be easily made out to be "newbies"

Edmund, if you do manage to get a deal on Chor bazaar, do let us know the experience .

On the topic of your engine , I think the G13 from the esteem would be more value for money - the carb'ed one would cost around 15k (it costs that much at places other than chor bazaar!) , it does 65bhp stock - pretty decent for a m800 !

Try to pickup only mechanical items and keep away from electrical items from chor bazar. Those may or may not work,it just by a chance you find a very good items if your are darn lucky.
One should have good bargain skills.

edmund: Sorry.I was very late to pounce upon your thread. you are very passionate about SS. Thats one heck of mods you have done. Cheers.

if you change the engine you will have to change the transmission as well right?

there was a friend at coll (failed and discontinued now) who had a m800 with an esteem engine, bucket seats and audio system which occupied his entire boot. but it didnt look great, the paint looked bad and the seats and stereo just didnt fit in - seemed like it was done in a hurry. lack of ed's "attention to detail" mantra led to it i guess.
