DONT!! This is probably an unauthorised seller selling pirated version of the software and trying to make some easy money.

If you must, hacked version of the mapmyindia software with maps is available (obviously free) on the internet.. Use that and just to clear your conscience, post an anonymous banker's draft to mapmyindia.

Yes. You can do it with freeware alone as far as the GPS is concerned. But then you need to have GPRS activated and the cheap way would be to subscribe for an unlimited data plan.

There would be slight restrictions as the data upload may be once in 10 to seconds or so (at least in the way I did it).

There are commercial solutions available as Sudev had posted in another forum.

There are car tracking systems which accept a sim card, and every time you send a sms to that number, it sends back the current coordinates.

That's exactly what i posted 6 posts before yours. Just that a phone goes in the car.

I have a spare phone with data plan and all!. Just not a gps receiver to work with that phone.

Tried this thing on the N82 though, but couldn't test it moving as phone was right in front of the computer all the time.

This again works with google earth and google maps.

^^^ Google latitude also does this.

Best part is it can track your location based on gsm towers, i.e. it'll work even if no GPS.

I am not all convinced of tracking based on GSM tower. Accessing Google Maps when sitting in office and home, I've had the map put my location in North India twice, near Rajasthan once, and (unbelievably) in a region in South America once!

Since then, I've had little faith on the accuracy of GSM based tracking on Google Maps.

Edit: I have N73 with Airtel GPRS plan. Besides for Google Maps, I have Nokia Maps and Yahoo Maps as well.

Gps Based Tracking

yeah, GPS and GPRS integrated tracking systems are available in Indian market starting as low as 6.5K. Better models will give you all vehicle attributes like fuel, door status, ignition status etc.

GSM based tracking is not practically. the error factor may be 1 km or above.

see these attachments...

i have installed these units into my travel agency vehicles. feels a 30 to 40% increase in the overall efficiency now.

Hi Nishad
  • Could you please share what frontend and back end software are you using.
  • Does is also support route logging and then export tracks to other GPS devices.
Thanks

Vts

they have supplied a stand along .net based application with a package of crystal reports. We have to use the provided user credentials while login.

they even have an internet explorer based platform for an urgent requirement from any internet enabled PC or PPC. But I haven't selected this option since it was another 200 bucks per month.

The back end part is totally unknown to me. I think they have their server somewhere in Pune. But I never faced a problem in login for the past couple of years. The stand along application will give you the following data...

1. the current location on google maps along with the speed, date and time, vehicle battery voltage, internal backup battery status, gps status, satellites connected, etc.

2. track long information for a selected period. This period can be any time in the past 3 years. can be uploaded into google earth kml format or into txt file.

3. a graphical representation of speed, altitude, driver worktime, GSM signal level, battery usage, car battery power level

4. geo-fencing can be done virtually drawing map on the screen. Seperate reports or sms alerts can be generated if the fenced area is crossed

5. seperate reports on driven distance, daily driven distance, driven distance by work time, geo-fencing, moto hours daily, fuel tank, trip stops, trip stops daily with geo-info, work time, etc

6. you can even send an sms to this device for checking it's location for any time requirement. It will respond back with the cordinates.

7. Have opted for 2 way voice communication for 4 co-ordinators vehicles.

8. If any power loss comes-in, the backup battery will take charge and the system will send an alert to the owner.

these are the basic functionalities. little more like watching all the 40 vehicles on a single screen, route playback, reverse playback etc.

TrackBuddy

Today I tried trekbuddy after much delay. I guess I was missing the feature of Track logging and Following track feature in MGMAPS. And I really liked trekbuddy with the features it provides, specially the skins available for data display CMS, CMS - TrekBuddy.

Will do some more research. Just that the old GPX files are not opening well at present. I guess need to check the formats.

But overall a very good product. Waypoint/POI Management is still not very good .

Downloaded google map upto 15X zoom level. And tracked from office to home.

Otherwise for windows mobile satguide is good.
Which software does mapmyindia navigator use? I am not aware whether garmin etc, can use that
using the Map my india or any other software on mobiles in crap, as there is absolutely no detailing available, also Map my india claims that on mobiles only 174 cities are covered, but their navigator unit has a coverage of 401 cities. i have been using one in my car for the last 20 days and i tell u the detailing in Goa is Very good.
