Nothing could be done to stock ECU. Engine swap, turbo charging, everything is possible . Time and money spent would be more, but it would be worth if you get a reliable and powerful machine .

I have finally decided to get my Kodiaq remapped on Friday by Quantum tuning. Unable to wait for 2.5 years more for warranty to expire and then do it The potential numbers look tasty.



One question though. The guy said you will be unable to go back to stock once remapped. In that case what happens if am not satisfied with the remap?

Why can't the stock map be flashed ? I guess he meant you would be so happy with the tune that you won't even think of going back to stock

Haha. I questioned him and he said he wrongly worded it. He meant you can go back to stock but Skoda people can see ecu has be tampered with.

I guess this will be a remap done via OBD and it will increment the flash counter. So even if you flash the original file back, the flash counter will still be incremented and Skoda A.S.S. can find out if they really check for this. Usually, these go unnoticed.

My car's remap wasn't done via OBD port and if I flash the original file back, there is no way A.S.S. will know that the car had a remap once. (Info from my tuner)

Another question. Ecu remap has no relation to driving modes correct? All driving modes (normal/sport/eco) does is change gear shifting?

Yesterday a close friend got his 2.0L 2013 Jetta, which was detuned from factory post the dieselgate, remapped to a stage 1 tune.

The numbers on paper for that tune are high, 190ish and 400+nm, but after driving it, it felt just like what a real Jetta was (before they were remapped for that dieselgate).

My question to the folks here, he was told that the map will "calibrate" in a few days and then he will feel the real potential of the remap! Is this really true?

From my experience, its just bs. Unless you have a really sensitive behind, or have access to a dyno facility or a v-box to check the 0-100 timings there is no way to verify the validity of these claims.

True, you need a dyno to test the difference. But being one of the popular tuners i assume the numbers won't be wildly different from what they say.

I am not qualified to answer this comprehensively, but I'll share my thoughts.

The driving modes are not just gear shift pattern changes, I believe that they do control other parameters such as fuel quantity, boost, driver's wish maps, etc. too. In ECO mode, some cars feel really sluggish but when you put it to sports mode, you feel much different - it is definitely not just a change in gear shift logic - this is based purely on my driving experience in both modes and I don't have any proof technically. I barely remember an ECU engineer telling me that they even 'dampen' the sudden & aggressive throttle inputs given by the user if the car is in Eco mode so that the car catches up speed slower than how it would have responded to a sudden throttle increase otherwise.

Now, what happens when you remap such a car which already has different modes? Frankly, I don't know - maybe the tuner will be able to put the new maps into the sports mode alone? If that is the case, it will be awesome, since you still have the option to drive it in ECO or normal mode with the corresponding stock maps.

Can anyone throw more light onto this, please?

I also feel like this is just BS. I felt the difference the moment I put my foot on the pedal after the ECU flashing. It was so evident.

There should be some improvement which would be noticed immediately after the remap. ECU does take some time (couple of drive cycles) to learn your driving style and then you would enjoy the full potential of the remap .

IATs peaks while doing full throttle runs for long durations. 50 degrees look ok / decent for a stock IC.
