I put it in the obd port. There are 5 lights on the device. The first one goes red as soon as I connect it.

Then I opened the torque application on my Android device. Searched for the scanner, got something as CHX. Did a connect and pair by using 6789 as the key. The pairing worked. But I can't seem to connect to it. It just shows 'paired but not connected in my device list'.

When I open torque application, it shows that the scanner is not connected. Any idea on what the problem might be ? Or am I missing something here ?
have you selected elm device in torques "more" menu?
i think the phone will not connect because it doesnt know what the device is(headfone/keyb etc).
but when you boot up the app, then it would(after youve selected elm).

Thanks a lot. I had not selected the 'Paired device to connect to in the settings'.
Works like a charm now

Post 292 like archat68 said has the details and the link. It took 18 days to ship. Normal Airmail and not registered. Registered airmail costs 3 dollars more and that's why the difference in cost. I ordered from the same link which Archat gave me.

Here you go.
ELM327 USB Vehicle OBD-2 Scanner Tool - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

be warned though.
this is not for you to use while driving.
one, the cables are quite hefty, and combined length is about 10feet.
it WILL get in the way.
and you may brake a bit oafishly, and the lappy will slide across the front seat, and go and hit the hard footwell from where you have removed the mats for a wash right before you connected the unit and took the car for a drive to test the OBD readings....

re: OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

Just connected the OBD scanner today and went for a drive. The readings seem pretty accurate. Throttle position and the percentage shown were almost spot on. The Rev counter too was spot on with the dash reading.

However, The speedo always had a 10% error. I think the readings we get from the OBD is the accurate one and the Speedo on the dash is calibarated to show a 10% error. (Just like the difference in GPS speed and the dashboard speed)

I was not able to configure the KPL. Has anyone tried that here. Is there any specific thing i need to configure to get accurate readings. It was showing kpl in the range of 2 to 4 (I have configured the engine capacity and the Kerb weight in the settings).

I don't know what the Boost psi reading is for ? Can anyone explain
The HP reading is missing in the free version. I'll buy the full version in sometime.

Torque has two speed readings. One from vehicle ECU, and one from GPS. The vehicle ECU reading will match the speedo reading, and the GPS one will have a certain % error (mostly it reads less).

There is also an option to calibrate both the speeds, to reduce error.
