re: OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

I impulsively went with this solution:
1. Ordered ELM 327 Bluetooth dongle - 1600 bucks from ebay (ETA 14 days)
2. Free Android App - "Efficiency" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nubbu.efficiency.free

Notes on how to calibrate "Efficiency App" Vehicle Calibration « Efficiency App

Will also use torque pro for other parameters. Btw, I had a SONY xperia X10, which will be now my full time slave in car.
It runs Power DVD remote, sygic maps (map my india), media files, and in future efficiency app/torque pro. I do not use it like a mobile phone anymore.

Budget frozen

Also, a ecommerce site, from where I can finally buy. Indicative price/link will be much appreciated. Can fall back to android mobile application + ELM327 bluetooth module (Is there any such software - heard of torque but not sure of adjustments to speedo).
I'm running A301 on my 2006 Civic. maybe you can see my posts on this thread. Pretty happy with it. Gives me more than enough info. The fuel consumption (history, trip and instantaneous) are fully configurable after cross checking with the actual consumption measured using tankful to tankful method. DTE is a pain as you need to manually enter the remaining fuel in the tank. Only possible after you do a full tank. Manually enter 50lit as remaining fuel in the tank and then it calculates DTE pretty well. Due to this manual intervention I normally do not use it. Speedo is not configurable. It shows around 2 kmph lesser than my car speedo display. I run 205 65 15, so I guess it is actually correct.
You have loads of other information like battery voltage, throttle postion, intake air temp, air fuel ratio etc etc etc...
VFM if you ask me. Available online on dealextreme. I bought from there.

re: OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

I have read through this thread but havnt read of anyone having success with the Maruti Swift. If possible those that have tried please list scanners/readers that you have tried and found it doesnt work - this way atleast we can look for other options.
Links to the product purchase pages will help please.

Am looking for the device that will work with my 2007 1.3 Petrol Swift ZXI. Ideally looking for something that can be paired with an Android phone over BlueTooth or WiFi.

Nothing works as Maruti uses proprietary protocol for OBD for their older engines. Works for K series engine though.

re: OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

Thanks archat68 - though I read the same thing - I would like to list out what all readers have been tried and try to see what is left to be tried (if any). Again want to rule out the possibility of defective units, configuration errors etc.

Also if I remember correctly people have tried only on the Swift Diesel not on the petrol.

Doesn't work on any Maruti at all (ELM 327, Scangauge) older than the current K series engines.

re: OBD (On-board diagnostics) for Indian Cars

ELM 327 based OBD-II bluetooth module was delivered yesterday. Connected to my civic and used torque pro (pairing done with password 1234). Shocked to see 02 sensor running in closed loop. nothing related to air/fuel system showed up. Is it because the sensor is bypassed and some "hacky" wiring is doing its job. Or, does civic run in o2 closed loop only. The only sensors (5 parameters) that were working are - coolant temperature, rpm (varying from 690 to 790 in idling), speed (think this is VSS - always 2-3kmph lower than actual speedo), throttle and boost (measures vacuum in negative value - was varying from -3 to -15 - what is this ?)

Can someone help me with the reality behind air/fuel sensors, what is closed loop and the significance of boost (vacuum)

I have ordered the same bluetooth reader. Waiting for delivery.

Closed loop mean it is taking feedback from the sensor to modify fuel\air ratio. I'd guess it'll go open loop on cold start and wide open throttle.

I am also waiting for OBD breakthrough for Vista for last two years. Please keep me posted if you get any success in Vista. Have you tried using FiatECUScan software.

@sushantr5 installed FiatECUScan software. Any idea what Car/ engine do I select as there no 1:1 match with Vista engine. BTW did try Punto varients, however no luck.
