Thanks Happy Wheels.... I 've clocked 16452 kms and my third free service was done at 9215 kms .... So, i'm nearing for my fourth service. I was expecting it to be somewhere around Rs2500. But 4500 makes me think again and again whether to get it done from MASS or get it done from somehwere outside... Is it nessary to change the spark plugs, Barke Oil, Gear Oil, Coolant this time around coz I have checked all levels for Brake, Gear oil and coolant. They are all topped up.

I also have an M800 which has clocked arnd 1,14000kms on one change of spark plugs and still doing very strong.

Spark plugs change???!!!

I do not think this is required. And for the oil change, nope, just a top up! For 15k kms service, 4500Rs is definitely on the HIGH side!

Even then I woudl suggest to go to a MASS; just because your's is a relatively new car and still will be under warranty. Do check with some other service centers for the pricing for the 4th service.

Unless these guys are cooking things themselves, all MASS should be having the same rates.

And do check the owner booklet. That is the bible and will tell you what needs to be changed, top-uped or tightened at what service.

BR.

911turbo, I do service every 5K km and oil changes, spark plug changes as mentioned in manual.
Suggest you to go through my LTO where I have mentioned all services information in detail along with the FE chart till date.

  2. Shift into the right gear at the right time. Since my Alto does not have a tacho, I use the following speeds to shift gears - 1 to 2 at 15kmph, 2 to 3 at 25 kmph, 3 to 4 at 35 kmph and 4 to 5 at 45 kmph.
  3. When going up an incline, don't crawl up in 4th or 5th gear lugging the engine, what you are doing is increasing the load on the engine and ruining the internal working parts of your car's cylinders. Shift down to 3rd to optimally use all fuel fed into the engine.
  4. In the city, try and keep a steady speed of 55-60 kmph. On highways, keep a steady speed of 80-90 kmph.
  5. Change your engine oil at correct intervals and above all, keep your air filter clean. I use a vacuum cleaner to blow out dust and small leaves that are stuck in the filter every fortnight.
Try these few tips and you will see a definite rise in the overall mileage of your Alto.

Cheers,
gpa
i'm trying all the above...don't think any improvement is visible.Maybe it'll improve after the 10K service.

I had my 4th service (paid one) at MASS (in Noida) and the bill came around 4500. So I guess that is what you can expect to shell out this time I was also surprised as it seems on the higher side.

Ashish: The service cost would be around 700 bucs instead of the labor cost. Plus brake oil. Plus some additives that they might use.

oh yes. there has definitely been a tremendous diference after 10k service. i sued to get only 15-15.5 before service but as soon as the odo showed 10k, even b4 service, i got 18kpl..this eventually went upto 19.5 once but i never got that FE again.now it averages b/w 18-18.5 without ac and 17.5 with ac.

That is good news. I also average about between 18.5 kmpl to 19 kmpl in the city with very minimal use of the AC.

I want to test the car to see what is thw worst figure I can get in the city by having the AC on 100%. I reckon it should be between 16.5 to 17 kmpl.

Hi mithun,

Yes, I am getting this FE in Bangalore. My car is just a year old and just covered 15,300 kms on the odo.

I drive with minimal use of the AC and usually drive on smooth roads with minimal traffic as I leave before the peak hours both in the morning and evenings.

If you wanted detailed info on the FE of my car you can take a look at this thread where I have a detailed LTO review - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...10000-kms.html

Cheers,
gpa
