re: Old Honda City - malfunction indicator

CEL came ON in my OHC Vtec at 57XXX KMs and my first guess was a busted O2 sensor. I bought a Denso O2 sensor from US during my next trip and got it installed at my trusted garage, CEL went off and the sensor has been working flawlessly from last one month.

Guys, Thanks for posting the Denso link.

Hi your O2 sensor is it working fine now as well . I may have to got for it . My MAL Light is on and HAC Guys are saying O2 Sensor issue . Waiting for sometime to get it confirmed as I went into knee deep water may be due to moist it was on . After the HAC resetted the light it has not yet glown for 2 days . Fingures crossed and watching it carefully , appart from the light on for one time, there is no visbile driving difference

yes. the sensor i had put in is still working good; i have driven approx. 8000 kms since then.

if your car's O2 sensor has gone bad, Check Engine Light will come ON again in 50-60 KM of driving, if it doesn't - knee deep water might have caused it.

My bad it came again .Will do another diagnosis from a non HAS, just to cross verify if the diagnosis is correct. By the way mine is a 1.3 Dx is there a difference in O2 Sensor model for 1.3 , 1.5 & Vtec. Or the link above will be suitable for all models. In that case i will try to source it through a cousine who is coming from States next month.

Re: Old Honda City - malfunction indicator

A friend has picked up a 2002 Vtec with a busted o2 sensor .

The quote at the A.S.S is 19k!
I did read about the Denso link in earlier posts. But is it a good option or does an aftermarket one suffice .

Any place I could pick up an aftermarket one in Bangalore would be appreciated.

there are MANY members running aftermarket O2 sensor on their OHCs without any problems. I installed Denso O2 sensor bought from US in my Vtec and has been working without problems for last 12000 kms so far. not sure where you'd find one in b'lore but it should cost you no more than 2500-2800 with installation (which is very simple procedure).

Re: Old Honda City - malfunction indicator

The CEL Light on my Vtec came on today, after around 10K kms after changing the Denso O2 sensor. I have the following queries:

How do I know that the O2 sensor is the culprit again this time ?
Will resetting the ECU help ?
Can anyone help me in sourcing one from the US or any other brand available locally.
What can be the other probable issue due to which the light comes on ?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Old Honda City - malfunction indicator

Update: It seems that the CEL Light is on due to the speedometer not working. I will get that sorted and check if the Light goes off.

i faced exactly the same problem (CEL ON) after i played around with speedo cable a bit in an attempt to fix a rattle; speedo stopped working and CEL came ON, read the code, fixed/adjusted the speedo cable and CEL went off.

if the CEL stays off when you start driving and comes ON only after driving for 2-3 kms, it must be due to VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) - speedometer.

Can you direct me where to find the speedo cable, I will try and fix it myself. I have the same issue, CEL comes on after 2-3 kms of driving.
