OHC Vtec vs Baleno (both stock) - which one is faster to the ton and beyond?

I dont want to start a debate about which one is a better car, but want to know the facts about these two cars so highly rated by the bhpians. has anybody here tested the timings of these two cars under same conditions or dragged them?

@Mods - if this is not the right place then please move the thread to the appropriate place.

Prediction - This thread in all possibilty is going to be closed soon

There have been many threads on similar topics and all have turned into Suzuki vs Honda.

Anyways its common sense IMO which is faster, its the Honda City Vtec anyday, any speed any how. The Baleno is slower by almost a second to 100.

0-100 and quarter-mile - OHC Vtec.
In-gear acceleration like 40-100 in 4th etc, I think the Baleno has the edge.

i have to say i truly believe a new baleno if treated right from day 1 {stock everything expect basics like air spark & oil } [ & tires ]
will definately be at least, AT LEAST- a second faster then what maruti says

honda s as stock
run way better oils and spark plugs then anything maruti will give [ hoping for a change - maruti is now suzuki & a Jap guy i believe is taking over soon ]

cheers

now that is slow!!!!
i am shocked beyond words

my swift hits 100 under 11 secs with a full tank of fuel and a passenger

always hated the way the OHC and NHC handle when pushed even lightly
but i thought the OHC VTEC -stock -, would hit 100 real fast and OHC VTEC 14.54 secs !!!is slow ; god damn slow

cheers

I had the impression that the Baleno would be faster to the ton as it can reach 100 in second gear whereas in vtec one has to shift to 3rd to reach 100 and that should take up some time. but that was my opinion and I think I was wrong after seeing the 0-100 timing of the vtec.

VTEC is faster to the 100 no doubt. yeah the gear ratio gives baleno a slight edge but we are talking a lot of horses less.

Whats the max in gear speeds for Baleno?

Yup, you do lose about 0.3 to 0.4 secs when you shift at 98kmph but the lead the vtec has over the baleno at that point is big enough, such that it can afford to make that extra shift and still be quicker to 100kmph. Had it not been for the limiter, the vtec could have hit the ton in around 9.5 secs.

The baleno might cross 100 in 2nd but the downside of tall gearing is that you lose out on acc.

OT:

In a quarter mile drag, I have personally seen a Baleno lose to a 1.5 OHC non-VTEC on numerous occasions. But then the OHC in question, had a few mild performance mods.

All depends on the RT and the what RPM a person launches, tyres, etc.

No stock Petrol Swift hits a ton in less then 12.5 seconds, so less then 11 seconds is not possible at all. Even a stage 1 swift will find it difficult to hit 100 in less then 11 seconds.

What is the point in discussing the speed of two out of production cars? How is this contributing additional value compared to the countless Vtec vs Baleno threads?

You could as well discuss which is faster, Premier Padmini or Ambassador. Oh wait, the latter is still in production.
