Hi,

Last year my friend got his Hyundai Xcent's AC fixed by a guy named Suresh in Lajpat Nagar Delhi, though it's a roadside setup but the guy and his team were professional and quick to do the work.

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

I have managed to get my i20 AC repaired. The work was done at a nearby mechanic by the name of Pappu Car Air Cool. The work was done by two mechanics. Leaks were found in the pipeline and in the condenser coil located behind the dash board. Thorough cleaning was done of the radiator mesh as well. I have attached some pictures below. The compressor oil was topped up. Total cost ₹9000.

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

The compressor on my vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Sunny, has started acting up. When I turn on the AC, everything seems to be okay, I can feel the cool air and I can hear the compressor turn on and off from time to time. The temperature is usually set to 24 degrees. After running for a while, the cutoff becomes more aggressive - the engine rpm suddenly spikes then drops as the compressor turns on and off multiple times within seconds. Eventually, I start feeling warm air being blown into the cabin.

I change the cabin air filter every six months and I also clean the AC vents using one of those pressurised foam cans. I'm not very sure where the problem lies, could the above be symptoms of a failing AC compressor clutch?

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

I've been facing a peculiar problem with my 16 year old Alto. So here's what is happening. I know I'm not supposed to do this but when I start the car with blower at 3 or 4 speed and the compressor is on, the blower doesn't work. It takes a few seconds or minutes for the blower to work.

But if I keep the blower speed at 1, it works. Then I have to gradually increase the speed and the blower starts working. This doesn't happens during cold starts. This happens only when the car is running. Only once did the blower stop working abruptly and then after a few minutes it started blowing air.

What could be the issue?

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

Please suggest a good a/c repair/recharge centre in Bangalore. My WRV s just over 1 year old. A/c cooling is working fine generally. But, I felt cooling is reduced over the fag end ( late afternoon)of long drives of around 400kms (7-8 hours of day driving with 1 or 2 breaks)when a/c is continuously on auto mode. .
I do follow window down procedure while resuming drive after parking under hot sun.
I remember a local Bosch a/c mechanic had mentioned to recharge refrigerant once a year with my previous car.
So, Not sure if it's the limit of WRV's a/c compressor or I need to topup refrigerant

Remove and change your car AC filter

This was a very good prompt. I was under the assumption that this filter was changed as part of 1st year end service.

Checked the service invoice and it was not on the replaced parts list. So, went ahead and opened the filter ( Honda has provided a very neat instruction on the website for replacement procedure), there it was- all black, dust ladden filter crying for replacement!!

Immediately went down to Diamond auto parts, Marathahalli and got a puralotor filter boxed for City. They mentioned it is common for all Honda cars. It matched the size of my old filter. So, went ahead bought it and finished the job.

Will have to see how much of a difference it makes on my long drive this weekend.

Thankyou hserus for your valuable suggestion.

Old filter!

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

My car AC was not working properly, went to a couple of AC mechanics, and everyone gave a different story, primarily to make quick money. Eventually contacted Suresh in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi. He was honest in the evaluation, recommendation, and execution. Although it's a very small shop, consider it as a roadside, he is honest and did a great job. AC is back as it was on day one.

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

I hope this is the right thread to ask this question, I had a doubt regarding the air conditioning.

I recently got a 2 unit AC installed in my house and the person who had come for installation told me that I should never turn off the power supply directly as it might affect the compressor. Which made me think if it is true for cars as well. Suppose we are driving on a hot day and the AC is working hard, at the end of the drive I turn off the AC and then the engine, is this fine or do we need to reduce the blower speed gradually, take the load of the AC and then turn it of completely?

What are the best practices to increase the compressor health and the AC unit in general?

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

Hello fellow BHPians, I have a Swift Lxi 2006 Model, whose air conditioning is acting up nowadays. It has manual blower settings like 1,2,3 and so on. On switching on the AC at 1, it works for sometime, and maybe after an hour or so we notice that there is no air coming out from the vents, which forces us to increase it to 2 and then the airflow starts happening again.Even if we switch off the ac, the cold air persists for sometime (maybe 5 minutes or so).If we switch off the AC for sometime and then start it again, the airflow comes back. Can you please diagnose what is going wrong? Is it the evaporator coil icing up?

Thing is, everytime you increase car's RPM (regardless of car moving or being stationary) with ac on, an intermittent hissing noise is heard for a couple of seconds, which disappears and comes back again in a few seconds. Also, while driving, a minor jerk and loss of power (noting major) are felt when the hissing sound starts.

Hyundai service centers are clueless about this issue. My son, who primarily drives this car, has given up on it now and has started living with this but I'm not convinced. Last year we happened to check a brand new Grand i10 (pre-facelift) and that car also had the same irritating noise and feedback. HASS says this is how it's being designed for better performance/fuel efficiency and what not absurd stories .

AC gas level was checked which was quite low - refilled but no luck. Experts, please help. Thanks!
Firstly, sorry for reviving an old post. If you have already resolved/sold the car, please share your wisdom and how you got out of the situation.

I have a 2017 Grand i10 AT and facing the same issue from almost a month now. The hissing/whining noise recently started on a long-ish drive of ~1200Kms. The minor loss of power (~4-500 RPM loss) is not serious although felt while driving.

Just like most of the suggestions already on the thread, please make these preliminary checks. Below are my steps to diagnosis and hopefully a resolution from HASS in Bangalore.

1. Pop the bonnet open and start your car. Keep the driver side door open.
2. In neutral (or Park, in my case) rev the engine up to 2K mark.
3. Turn on the AC and wait for the compressor to kick in and eventually see the drop in RPM.
4. Notice the whine come on and disappear shortly after the compressor shuts off.
5. Leave the car idling and walk over to the open bonnet. Keep the AC on.
6. Wait for the compressor to kick in again and you should notice a significantly changed sound from the engine bay.

Multiple such rounds of diagnosis plus a consultation with an AC mechanic helped us zero it down to a potentially worn out compressor shaft. Sadly, that is non-repairable and the whole compressor needs to be replaced.

Thankfully my car is still covered by H-Promise warranty and HASS is working on the warranty claims to source a new compressor. I will report back after the job is done and if the noise disappears.

Hello,

The hissing noise never went away. I think it was an inherent issue with the car back then. We had tested other Grandi10s and Xcents and they all had the same noise. The HASS was clueless. My son finally sold it and bought the Creta in 2021.

Re: Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance

Hello

Facing a peculiar problem with the AC in my car. First of all the compressor dosent turn on after a cold start, I have to repeatedly switch on and off the ac button to bring the compressor to life, then the compressor abruptly cuts off on its own while the car is being driven and then again this process of hitting the ac button multiple times has to be repeated to turn on the compressor, the ac cuts of happens under different circumstances like while clutching or when the rpm falls too low or even on an open road while cruising but strangely the ac keeps on working when the car is stationary and the compressor dosent cut off even once

Car in question is Linea T-Jet
