After reading the discussion about retrofits, I am confused, whether any of those will be applicable on my Tigress too?. The dealer guys said, none is required on my car. I need opinion of all you gurus on this matter.

2. My second service is due, done 5500 kms. The vehicle has run smoothly without any major issue (engine related). On my recent long Rajasthan trip, I felt that liner power delivery has slightly reduced on return of the trip, as the odo was approaching 5k mark. Now on inspection, I find that engine oil appears dirty/ blackish in colour. ... TASS guys insist that it is needed only at 15 k service...
You will get a list of retro fits couple of pages back in this same thread.

But, as per the information that I have, all vehicles manufactured from May 2009 have the retro-fits built into it. So, you should be good.

With regard to the engine oil, as per the new manual, the service intervals are 1k, 5k 15k and then every 15k kms. So, you can infact go ahead and get a oil change done. Rather, it will be a very very good ideal to change it; darkened oil is not good.

Dark oil in a diesel engine is not a cause for concern. Infact oil gets black in these engines pretty fast due to the nature of the combustion process, its normal and one cannot gauge the quality of the oil by looking at the colour.

Unusual Sound

Guys,
I just need your help here. From quite some time I have been getting a kind of a growl (like a rubbing sound) when ever the turbo spools down; while pressing the clutch to change to a higher gear for example. Its very distinct and sounds pretty un-natural to any sounds that I have been accustomed to. There doesn't seem to be any visual changes in performance of the truck.

I have shown it to TASS at Chennai & B'lore , both places they did say that it sounded a bit odd, but "there was just nothing wrong with the vehicle" after a thorough check up. I assumed that may be the air filter was dirty and had it replaced. But still it continues. So I shrugged it off, after hearing ADC's incident I am worried.

I have to take the truck for 37.5k km Oil change next week so please give me any suggestions. Should I take it up with TML?? if Yes then is there any specific e-mail address for the ERC???

The vehicle is 20 months old, so the warranty expires in 4 months!!!

I was just going through the reciept which indicated that they had replaced 2 components FOC

(1) Part No : 269915400122 Alternator Int. Fan-120A-Pull-64
(2) Part No : 15200 R/R Alternator Assy

What's the difference ??

The 1st one seems to be the alternator Pulley and the 2nd one Alternator assembly with regulator & Rectifier.

However I am not very sure about the the 1st.

Thanks JK dada, happywheels, mahesh and rahul.

Yes, ECU dust cover is there. But confusion still prevails. I'll inquire about retrofits from TASS service manager here in detail.

About oil change too, I'll discuss about the actual quality of the oil with the mechanic at TASS while giving it for service and then take the decision, as merely looking at its color from a layman's (mine) eye, its quality can't be judged.

Still more suggestions are welcome as I am very newly introduced to the world of these wonderful, powerful but sensitive diesel turbos. Hence this extra cautious attitude.

The 1st item is of the part, and the 2nd one for the labour. A thumb rule is that almost all labour item job codes don't span as long as the part codes (think that they are of max. of 6-7 digits in length).
R/R possibly means Repair(or Rectify)/Replace.

Gurujis,

The Incredible Hulk is due for its first service very soon. So looking for pointers / suggestions.
I was speaking to the Rama Motors SA and he advised that the oil change is not done in the first service, only a top up is done if necessary. I was always under the impression that an oil change is necessary in the first service. I was even looking at the service manual at I see an x next to it.

Another interesting thing I noticed was that Rama Motors Service Center is not listed as a TASS. . Since I got the Hulk from them, should I get the first service done from them or elsewhere in Delhi. Even Autolinks in Vasant Kunj is not listed, though I know it's been there for quite sometime now.

Please suggest.

Go to Autolinks. Based on my experiences with multiple TASCs in NCR, Autolinks seems to be the best.
If possible for you go to Autolinks Gurgaon.

Try to get the service advisor "Guru". Give Suman's reference, or mine to either the
Assitant works manager. GM workshop may or may not be present on site.
As for the workshop, they take good care of the vehicle, and the experience there is totally different from any of the workshops I have visited.
Unfortunately, I stay 2 hours from Gurgaon, so for me getting there is a big big problem.

They've had quite a few changes in the past couple of months. Atul A (earlier GM) has been promoted to Director & has moved to Vasant Kunj. Rakesh Sharma (ex-Maruti, Apra Auto) came & went pretty quick thereafter (was there when I went for the 70k services, was gone when I went the week after!), now they have another guy (ex-Vasant Kunj) who I haven't met yet.

At the Works Manager level, Amit Tyagi has been moved to their Rama Road workshop & Anil Vashisht (erstwhile Technical Manager) has become the WM.

No changes further down the line so Guru & Co are still around. Yes, you can give my reference there if you need to.

There is one Mr.Grover who has joined them recently. He was quite helpful when I went there for my 30k service. Know him well. He has joined them from Maruti.

he is the Works Manager or GM. Not very clear about his designation.

@Tsk, suman and Country road,

Thanks a lot, really really appreciate it.

Regarding the other query, do you guys suggest getting the oil changed since this is the first service.

Cheers
