Again it is not surprising if it works fine. Because Pricol started off with technical collaboration with Yenkay, another Indian company which had tie up with the German VDO.

@DeOetelaar
I meant the autobahns of Germany! Also by "different state of tune" I meant the stock tuning by Suzuki, as sold in your country. I say that because I know VW, BMW, Mercedes etc are sold in a different state of tune in India as compared to Germany. This must hold good for all cars. Also the oil + oil filter change and air filter cleaning must be done more frequently here.

Hi!
I have already written here that my record Topspeed was 171kmph which has been checked by GPS so it should genuine. My Speedo was at 180kmph at itīs limit, the rev counter nearly at 6000rpm. This is only possible in the 4th gear and donīt do it too long. Maybe that was the reason that my head gasket is broken. OK, the car has run over 150000km maybe itīs normal.
Between 150 and 160kmph is realistic in 5th gear.
Hi I was out of town sorry for the late reply , the white speedo is of the wagon R , the alto and the wagon R share the same speedo and ecu Euro I,II,III. My original alto speedo the blue one too has wagonR/Alto Lxi written behind it . I tried buying the blue one like yours but was expensive , got the white one at half the price . Silght crack in glass . So settled for white/crack in glass/half price but brand new sealed speedo . Glass cracked in storage.

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

^^I see that you have mounted the rear speakers on the OEM parcel tray. Do you face any issues/vibrations etc? Some people say we must use thicker after market trays, which I don't like. Mine are installed on the hatch door for this reason.

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

These OEM garnish/plastic for the B & C pillars (anky's post); any idea if they are still available since it's been long that the VX went off the production line, unless these things made their way into the K10 models.

Also, how did these cost you anky?

Lastly, I am facing this peculiar problem since the past many months now. The original silencer on my Alto gave way in the beginning of this year & since then I have changed the silencer twice. Ofcourse, it's not the original one since the price difference is huge, & the quality looks similar. However, the problem is that within a few months, the new silencer starts sounding as if there is nothing inside it to soften the sound, as if those metal cannons inside have melted away. I have checked the timing etc & all is fine. Any cheap alternative to this because I like the original sound of the car, which isn't loud or like a sportscar but soft & mellow.

Seems that the baffles in the silencer gave way each time - points to extremely flimsy construction.

I would have got the original silencer. It is not that expensive. As my K10 is new, I have no idea, but I did get one for my Esteem. For Esteem they come in 3 parts, the front pipe, the rear pipe and the actual silencer with catcon.

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

Paid 1600 Rs for muffler for dad's Maruti 800 one year back, so I am assuming that Alto muffler would easily cost 2000 Rs.
I think Cosworth has Carbon fibre mufflers that last really long, but I guess they are expensive.

B pillar garnish is 70 bucks each and c pillar garnish was 600 each for b & c pillar and seatbelt top remove and fit for b & c pillar . I also have manual internally adjustible OVRM L/R bought for 750 each .

Aaah, "baffles" is what they are called & I just couldn't recall. Thanks mate, & yes it is these baffles that gave way every time to result in that harsh sound. I did inquire about the original one, & it costs around 5-6K even in the after-market whereas the local one costed me 900 INR. Is there any other alternative to changing the silencer again?

Cosworth would be expensive & in any case, I won't be using the car all that often from now on. Any other companies that you may know of who make better quality stuff. Or if you are aware of the OEM supplier?

Well I donīt know what myths our Autobahns (where did you catch the word?) have but believe me there is no technology included which pushes the cars to enormous speeds. There is no band conveyor or anything else which has an own speed of 100kmph and let us cruise with our Altos at 250kmph.
The indian national highways do also not look so bad. Or do they have many holes?
But the stock tuning could be a reason and sounds interesting. Maybe we in Europe got Altos of a better quality? Before I was sure that there are just things like seats, airbags and so on which differ between Europe and India. All other would not suit to a management driven company. But who knows? Do I have an engine of better quality? I canīt believe that.
What is/was the price for a 1.1 Alto in India? Here the listprice for the cheapest Alto was about 6300 EUR excluding tax.

Is mine blue? Ok, I think itīs black but I donīt care. Well your white one looks like from a race car - your decision was right!
To the pics inside of your car. What kind of seats do you have leather or some kind of plastic?

They are called Art Leather here (not quite leather) tried to match my car's color (silver). Seats going strong for 7+ years.Had them custom made.

I agree! But I understand they allow a much higher speed limit (here it is 80KPH at most places, 120 in some). This, combined with better quality fuel and tuning, will result in a higher speed. Most of the national highways here have become toll roads now and are of good quality. Potholes on them will be rare too. But they allow all sorts of traffic - bicycles, scooters, autorickshaws, slow moving trucks - you name it. Add to that villagers suddenly darting across!

The problem is, all NHs have been upgraded and made toll roads, instead of laying new speedways. This leaves no choice for the vehicles mentioned but to use the NHs, so some of them are exempted from paying toll.

The Altos you get will definitely be of a better quality in general, but the engines will be the same. They will be tuned to their full capability for the western markets. All cars are tuned differently - I would say detuned- to suit the fuel and driving conditions here. For instance even Mercs and BMWs sold here will not produce the same BHP of their counterparts in Germany (or anywhere in the west). I think they are made to run with lower compression ratio. For instance the 1100 cc Alto VXi had ~65 BHP when it was sold here. It was discontinued long back since it was killing the Wagon R and Zen. We could buy only the 800 cc Alto since then, till the introduction of the K10 1000cc Alto recently. This version in top trim sells for ~ INR 375000.

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

Can anyone tell me whether the K10 & the 800cc Alto share the same set of wiper blades?

Meanwhile

I bought a single piece Maruti Genuine RHS internally adjustable mirror for my Alto. What I thought will be a boon on cold wintry mornings has turned into a nightmare. The mirror has very limited view & on top of that, it is smaller than the manual one provided as default. Driving in Delhi traffic became a nightmare with an uncountable number of "near-miss" situations.

Going to return it tomorrow(MRP-1650Rs.). Anyone interested in going for these for Alto, please avoid.
