Sad to see the condition of the car Tushar. Looks like a side sweep rather than a straight on collision?

Glad to know all are fine. Waiting for a detailed update

Take care and drive safe !

Re: Chevy Cruze 12500kms update with minor mods

Hello Everyone,

After the sad update, the car got back in a week all fixed perfectly. My driver had scrapped it into a truck on the right. The big bumper on the front did all the damage. A number of things went into the car, but I remember only a couple of them :

1)F RH Door
2)F RH Window Glass
3)F RH Door Handle with Sensor
4)F RH Door Handle cover
5)F RH Power window motor
6)F RH Complete Door Wiring
7)R RH Door Handle cover
8)R RH Door + Panel Denting
9)Paint

Total Bill came to about 55,000. I had Zero Depreciation insurance from Bharti Axa, so was given an estimate of just Rs.1000 for claim charges. But, when I got the bill, they said that Bharti will charge Rs.2,500 additional for salvage charges which is charged on Metal parts. I refused to pay this amount as nobody I knew had heard of such a thing being charged by insurance companies. I still have to hear from the workshop what is the final outcome.

The car came back all shining again, but there was a problem.

Before the accident, the car was jerking a lot. This was because on my last trip to Delhi, I got fuel filled in at a Pump in Manesar, just before the toll road. After driving the car for about 50kms, the car started jerking. After checking everything, it turns out, there was kerosene mixed into the diesel. So, after spending a whole day at the workshop and getting the diesel tank completely drained, it turns out, there was a little more than half a litre of kerosene in the 50odd litres. Still the car continued to jerk a little because of the kerosene still in the fuel lines. After about another 50kms, it was perfectly fine, but still kept getting the Heater plug light and the check engine light in between. It used to come on for 1 second and then go away. The main thing was that the car would loose all power in this one second.

Anyhow, I got the car back to Jaipur without any trouble in this part. So, when the car went for the accident repair, I told them to look into this problem. After spending 6 days at the workshop, I was assured that the problem has been rectified and it was just a little more kerosene in the fuel lines. After 10 kms, the same problem started. I went back the next day, and the reason given was that, the heater plug wiring has given away and will have to be replaced. It will be done under warranty but I would have to wait for 5 days as the wiring will have to come from GM. This was on the 14th. I called them on the 19th, but the wiring had not come. Finally the wiring came on saturday, the 25th. The car is right now with them and I should be getting it tomorrow. I will update on this section as soon as I get it back tomorrow. I have also asked them to give me a proper explanation, as to why the wiring has conked off at just 18000 kms.

Another part of this update was the ones done a little before the accident. The interior was wrapped in CF and a Bodykit was added to the car. There is another DRL added after this pic. I will post it after I get the car back. The worst part about the accident was that I lost the damping in the Front and Rear Doors.

Please let me know your comment on how the car looks now with the bodykit on.

Cheers

Great body kit Tushar I am quite sure it will look even greater on the road. In the last pic you have a Black Chevy emblem while the pics above has the Gold one. Hope you have changed the one in the front too.

Hi,

The kit looks good, but the front part is a little extended and is too risky. Have scrapped it a couple of times.

The first couple of pictures are from a while back and thats why they dont have the black emblem on them. Now both are black

Cheers

From where did you purchase these Lenso alloys? If it was an online purchase, please post a link.

Once you brake or switch off the button on the steering the cruise control gets deactivated. You can also reset the speed using the roller switch without pressing the accelerator while the car is in cruise control mode.
Could you please elaborate whether the cruise control is set to speed or rpm?
For eg: In XUV, the cruise will get engaged only above 1200 rpm. However, my friend yesterday told me that the cruise control on Cruze engages above 45 kmph irrespective of the rpm.

Any pointers?

Cruise Control is set to speed and not RPM. You can set it from 45KMPH upwards.

Re: Chevy Cruze 12500kms update with minor mods

My Cruze LTZ AT (2010 model) has now completed about 51,000km. The time for paying the road tax is in a few months and this is a time to think whether to keep the car or sell it. I think I am going to keep it. I cannot afford the higher models of Jetta or Octavia right now, and moving to a lower segment won't make me happy, though the 1.2TSI engine of Polo GT TSI or Vento have kept me thinking for several days.

But then, I really want to make a few upgrades now.

1. The RD Box
2. Xenon headlamps
3. A nice head unit. Touchscreen or not, it must be able to play music from USB. Burning CDs have been so frustrating for so long now.

Just checking with you, Tushar, what has been your long term experience with the RD box?

Also, in Kolkata, does anyone know a good car accessory shop where I can get a decent replacement of the stock music system and the headlamps?
