re: Tata Safari Storme : Test Drive and Review. More pics: pg 47

How lucky can anyone get!!! What should I be doing If I want to get some chance like this

Attention to some of the details could have only come from a Safari owner.

turning radius, less bounce and no fishtail feel will definitely improve sales.
I only wish that niggles and Service improve.

They still have that analog clock there!! I was hoping for a digital clock atleast.

Has the spare tyre affected the ground clearance by any chance?

re: Tata Safari Storme : Test Drive and Review. More pics: pg 47

A five star of a thread if there ever was one - for the information, the scoop, the inside peek, the quality, the presentation and for my favorite car, which I happen to own also.

Lukeskywalker, I'd like to ask if you can share any details or if the discussion at any time veered towards the quality or the ability to withstand abuse by Storme's suspension, especially the front?

As an owner of the Safari, my biggest complaint with the vehicle is the steering & suspension. I understand from your review that a number of changes in the Storme will address these concerns of mine, but specifically I am curious to know whether the longevity of the Storme's suspension would be much more now? and will a faltering wheel alignment cease to be an issue in the new product?

Thanks again & best of luck and to Tata

Thanks a lot! great review and luck you!

Pricing the Storme between Safari and Aria seems a gamble unless.

Safari is sold only in Lx trim with a reduced price of atleast 75k
Strome starts in LXa trim where in it gets ABS above the existing safari and continues to EX and VX.

Wish List: Better music system with bluetooth and steering mounted controls, MID (did you miss it) and climate control. No need for funky electronics they are the first ones to fail.

On a positive note: The interiors seems to be of much better quality, look at the door trims and foot well am impressed.

For the extreme look add on the bumper kit displayed in the auto show VXp may be.

Thanks for the review.

The mustache type front grille is really spoiling the looks. Hope they can change that to something better.

The cut in the side cladding for the fuel cap also looks bad.

I feel the side facing rear seats will be a deal breaker for many.

If Tata plans to sell both the old and the new Safari alongside, it will lead to cannibalization rather than attracting customers from XUV!

Very nice review Hari. Interiors are looking upmarket and of better quality. Even though the engine is same but why have they changed the name Dicor? Also how was the front seat comfort compared to existing Safari? Most important is there any change in the Air Conditioner of Storme as current Safari has little weak AC.

Thanks Lukeskywalker for a great review. Can't deny that I was losing patience over the delay in the launch like many others and this review comes as a very good respite!

Few thoughts:
1) I feel if they have an LX-ABS version, it will be awesome for most highway travelers who don't go offroad.
2) The LX 4wd with ABS (given that they are already producing on order) would be the best option for many of us. But then who would buy the higher end options!
3) Launch should be as early as possible.
4) While I am not a great fan of clutter and too many electronics, the Storme dashboard does disappoint because of the lack of gizmos. Not that I even listen to music in the car, but when you pay 10L, one would expect a few more gizmos. Maybe they should have an after-sales mod option for that.

If the pricing is right and the niggles disappear, I think the Storme makes a lot more sense than the "Rocky Boat" Scorpio or the "Cruising Boat" Safari we currently have as options but purely on VFM/gizmo basis, it still seems to fall short of XUV.

All weekend I waited for this review and you've done a great job. Rated it 5 stars!

Cheers,
Adi

Great review and lots of quick info about the STORME. It'll surely rock like its the current Safari. After all it's one of the XXL SUV in the market. It looks more modern and polite. Missing the rear spare wheel it's kind of losing its identity but will surely catch up

Thanks & Wishes to TATA for the another great product

I don't think so, I was told ground clearance has not changed. Should have clicked pics of the spare wheel underneath.

My Safari has not had any issues withstanding abuse so far, the limited number of Safari customers who were present too did not mention suspension issues, but yes, steering issue was discussed and it seems to have been addressed in the Storme.

Not from Tata's point of view, they say the design at the rear makes it a non viable option, there will be no headroom and legroom, ingress, egress etc. were some of the issues discussed when it came to 3rd row seating, the 3rd row is there for appearances and will remain so.

They would definitely have to change the HU, we asked them to throw it away, MID was asked by me and the reply was maybe sometime later. Steering mounted controls instead of the stalk mounted audio controls too was preferred, they said they'll have a relook. Even I was of the opinion that we dodn't need funky electronics, my request to them was to keep it simple and functional, the interiors though bland look more elegant than the XUV's in my opinion.

The interiors definitely look richer than the XUV though the dash is spartan with an ancient 1-DIN.Love the black, beige and silver combo !

What is the reduced turning radius on the Storme ?

*Rated 5 Stars*

A very detailed review of what surely seems to be a important launch for Tata. Other than Sumo racking in numbers from the cab sales. Safari and the much touted Aria has not got them the desired result. They have alot riding on Storme, hope they get the pricing and marketing right for this one.

I was suprised that a small off-roading session was not part of the test drive. Any particular reason?

Did you ask the "Quality question".
What exactly have they done in the Storme manufacturing process to fix quality issues
The 2.2 was plagued with Retro fixes relating to timing belt(many people suffered timing belt failures on new safari), service light issues, Problems related to common rail etc.,

Has Tata made changes to their quality control process, so that customers get a bug free vehicle?

re: Tata Safari Storme : Test Drive and Review. More pics: pg 47

Hi Luke, Thanks for the very informative review about the Storme. Really pushed up my perception about this product.

Have a few questions about your experience with the Storme -
1. You mentioned that the steering grip was not as good as the XUV could you elaborate.
2. Also mentioned that the pick up (push) was not "there" vs the current Safari if you compare 3rd , 4th and 5th between the two versions when do you feel the "push", did you try revving in 3rd , is it free revving ? running out of steam at any stage?
3. You mentioned 120 speeds while cornering on the expressway does it imply you were using this to reach 160 or was there enough poke to do 80 to 150~160 without the need for corners as there are quite a few straight stretches on this route?
4. About driveability in terms of accelerating at low speeds did you feel the flat spots in 3rd at low speeds ? like the current safari ? Need to go to 2nd.
5. How about overtaking , do you need to down shift at 60-70 kmph ?

thanks.

Lucky you mate!! crisp first impression review! like it!! Also, from the pictures one thing is pretty evident, TATA has improved on the quality of materials and also the fit and finish (was very impressed with the non messy look of the foot well!) has been thoroughly worked upon! Good to see these changes! But I still can't digest the goofy looking front end! Please TATA, change the face!! looks horrible!!!

Lucky LukeSkywalker to get an opportunity like this and sharing it with us.
The Storme is a definite improvement over the Safari but it's a bit too late and looks like it was launched only for the existing customers who would have gone for the Safari even if there was no Storme.
Can't understand the strategy followed in case of the Storme and Force One, but if launched within 8-10lakhs it's on our shopping list and may even be preferred over the Innova if proven niggle free.
