Hyundai scores very high on safety and maintanance costs .It also offers decent handling though its not the best and is not near the germans.if you are looking puerly for performance and handling then i think a skoda/vw will be the best but cost of ownesrhip could be something of a worry.Hyundai is a mix .. scoring high on some parameters while average on some.
While I would agree with you that Hyundai scores on the safety front but its maintenance costs are no where near cheap. It has become very expensive in the recent times as they have increased the labour rates to a great extent.

Totally agree. Was looking forward to some ownership threads or at least posts detailing ownership experiences of folks who have bought the Elantra recently but I guess they are just too busy enjoying their new toy . Hopefully @kcepl will spare some time for us .

@ Zen Kobane - thanks for sharing the pics in multiple colors. IMO the elantra looks most classy in silver / white which I feel brings out the fluidic contours the best. The darker colors kind of blend those out.

re: Driven: 5th-gen Hyundai Elantra

I would have gone for the red had I not got a red Fiesta already ! IMHO the red is best.... jazzy , bold young and just the amount of flashy . Just the right color for the younger age group .. .
Black and others sober colours look better on "elderly" cars e.g. Mercs..
( just my thought )

Picked up my Elantra SX Manual in Black recently, sharing few pictures. In my view Black gives the Elantra a touch of elegance and class over its youthful and bold design.

OMG!

Ive been trying to keep shut about my color preference, and I think you make it more difficult for me now! I will still try to wait till Jan :P

Put in your initial review too asap. Lets hear out about the drive and ride quality. Also, share you perspective on Elantra vs Verna on size and looks, and with Jetta if you can. And if you can, put up some night shots too, with lights on, front and back (including break and reverse).

Oh and, CONGRATULATIONS!

Congrats Anmol.. The black does look very classy.

Can you pls share your initial driving impressions & if possible compare with Verna. Will look forward to a full fledged review of your black beauty.

Thank bud

Also, when taking night shots, do check if the tail lights light up completely, as in, Ive noticed the section that is on the boot lid has no light in it?! Or is it just a break light... I'm really boggled about it!

Also, do check-out Avante's HID projector lamps, they are plug & play with this model, you can order them online

See image for the sweet alloys and the LED tail lights too.

Those look great, could you please share a link for these lights. Also sharing few pictures for comparison with the Verna. The Elantra is definitely wider and longer.

re: Driven: 5th-gen Hyundai Elantra

Hi everyone,

Great thread, I own a previous generation Elantra and it has given me close to 8 years of trouble free service. I am booking a new petrol automatic Elantra today and should have it in a week.

A few questions..

1) Has anyone ICE'd their elantra yet? I am a music buff and in no way will I accept the system in the car. If you have, where did you procure the replacement HU socket for the single/double DIN from? Local or internationally? Local dealers in Bangalore have been unable to give me an answer whether I can source this locally. However, it is available for purchase online at about $100 (without shipping charges).

2) Tyres : Has anyone replaced the stock silica tyres with a different profile? Are these tyres as good as they claim it to be or can I replace them with something a tad bit wider? Any change in the ride?

Thanks!

re: Driven: 5th-gen Hyundai Elantra

A small question.

Caska is offering the OEM replacement for the elantra.

A friend of mine has booked an elantra and is wondering if it is worth to buy the caska unit.

He doesnt want to loose out on steering controls, back seat controls, bluetooth controls as well as USB and Aux inputs.

Any pointers?

I recently experienced a caska on a Honda city, and I will strongly suggest your friend to stay away from it. The UI is crappy and the touch screen moody and mostly with poor response making it very difficult and frustrating to use.
