re: Review: The 2015 Hyundai Verna Facelift (2nd-gen) Hello All,
Yesterday was my Verna's 1st anniversary. Therefore, I thought of thanking you guys for all your support and guidance. The below points summarize my experience with my car over the past year:
Car : Hyundai Verna 1.6 VTVT S(O)
KMs done: 10056 in 365 days (Average ~ 28 KMs daily) (99% with AC on)
KMs on Highway ~ 4500 KMs (45%)
City mostly driven: Bangalore
Major Incidents: None
Breakdowns / Technical Problem: None
Failed to start : None Summary:
1. Car (overall) : BEAUTIFUL design. I cannot stop admiring her. The design flows so well, would thank the fluidic designing team for coming up with it. Extremely reliable and very easy to maneuver through the city.
2. Engine : Butter smooth. Has loads of power on tap. I normally keep the RPM between 1000 - 2500 in the city. Drives effortlessly. I have found myself @ 40 KMPH, in 5th gear, going up a flyover with the AC on and the engine pulled ever so smoothly. On the highway, the RPM is mostly between 1500 - 3500 and the engine note is sweet. Overtaking is a simple dab on the accelerator. No downshifting required unless its an incline. Just once have I taken it till 5000 RPM, in 2nd gear and the power was an absolute delight.
Sometimes (when I am alone), I mute the music and just listen to this 1.6 litre beast going up and down the revs.
3. Suspension & handling: Appropriate balance between softness and stiffness. Bottomed out once when I had 5 people on board and a boot full of luggage. But to be honest, the speed breaker was unscientific. Otherwise, the ride is comfortable in the city. On the highway, I found the stiffness to be set up just right. No bouncing even at higher speeds. Never did I have to back off because of an unsettled ride.
4. Transmission: A delight to use. Precise and short throws. Light clutch makes city driving a breeze. I think Hyundai have one of the best gearbox + clutch set-up available in India.
5. OEM Headlamps: They serve the purpose. But lately, I have felt the need for more power so counter the insanely bright, high beam idiots who can be found in abundance. So, I am thinking of an upgrade.
6. OEM Tires: I have stuck to the stock 195mm R16 Bridgestone B250. No tire puncture so far. Performance has been satisfactory. Plus, I have never used any other tires to compare.
7. OEM Alloys: Yes these do deserve a special mention. Love the diamond cut design. I just keep them shining and they add a whole new level to the overall looks of the car.
8. AC: More than adequate for Bangalore. Always use it in Auto mode. Gets quite noisy at higher blower speed though, hindering conversations.
9. Comfort: Front seats are supremely comfortable. Have driven 650 KMS in a day with no back pain. Back seat could have been better.
10. Boot Space: HUGE. I have successfully loaded 2 full sized suitcases, 2 cabin baggage sized suitcase, a laptop bag and a few odd polythene bags in the boot at a time. Also, I recently shifted my house and the boot was a big helping hand.
11. Braking and ABS : Braking takes getting used to initially. The brakes bite in more than you are expecting. Thankfully haven't had to reach out the big brother ABS so far.
12. Features: LOADED. I have read multiple posts on T-Bhp which mentioned that features aren't something we should go after when making the purchase decision as they soon become un-used gadgetry. I, fortunately, did not agree to this thought process and one of the reasons of going for the Verna were the amount of features. I find the following extremely useful:
a. Rear camera and parking sensors.
b. True key-less and Go with push button start.
c. Electro-chromic auto-dimming IRVM.
d. Power adusting and power folding ORVM.
e. Automatic Climate Control unit.
f. Cooled glove-box
g. Sliding driver's armrest.
h. Dual Airbags. (Have not used them, hope I never do).
13. Hyundai Service: Excellent. Very professional. Luckily have a Hyundai Service Center within 1 KM of both my home and office locations. Dislikes:
1. The rear bench angle could have been better. And, the high-window line make the rear seat and less-liked place in the car.
2. Request sensor on the passenger door side. Why Hyundai, why have you skipped this? It causes inconvenience at times.
3. Auto-up and down feature for all power windows rather than just for the driver's side window.
4. Auto-folding of ORVM when the car is locked (not sure if this can be enabled now)
5. Auto door locking at a certain speed (say 15kmph). Again, not sure if this can be enabled now.
6. Missing DRLs. I loved the headlamps of the 2014 Verna. Pity that Hyundai dropped the DRLs from the 4S Verna.
7. No sill plates fitted from the factory. Further, even after multiple requests, haven't been able to get these from the dealer. Accessories added:
1. Caska AVN bought directly from Hyundai. Apart from the fact that the telephone receive and reject buttons on the steering do not work with this unit, everything else has been perfect. Navigation support from Map My India is good and pretty accurate.
2. Floor mats.
3. Custom Seat covers from Imperial Leathers, Bangalore. Delighted with these. Overall Summary:
A. Satisfied with my purchase: A big YES.
B. Alternatives considered and ranking: Verna > Vento > Ciaz > City
Infact, the Vento was pretty close and only lost out because the 2015 Vento was about to come and I couldn't wait.
C. Would I recommend it? Depends. The only person whom I would not recommend the Verna too, would be the person who has back-seat comfort (chauffeur driven) as his top most priority.
D. Would I buy it again? Too far to comment. I love this one to the core and intend to keep her for a long duration. By then, who knows what the market offers. |
