Re: Review: Hyundai Creta (1st-gen)

Actually my Blaupunkt unit is history now, traded it in for a new Hypersonic 4gb/64gb Entertainment unit with licensed Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a host of other features. Works well and is a pleasure to use. Some pics are attached.

Re: Why I chose the Creta

The odometer on my First Gen First lot Creta 1.6 SXO CRDi shows 108,450 kms and the old lady is as sprightly as ever. The beauty of a refined Diesel mill (the old one) cannot be matched by contemporary engines on the Creta, all lower in capacity. has run through pretty much all that roads in the Bharat can throw at her, she's survived all of them and come out remarkably strong. 2 sets of tyre changes, clutch system replaced, structs/shocks replaced, always maintained at Srinath Hyundai, Oshiwara, Bombay, and she's been great value (at the price I paid back then).

My usage pattern has changed over the years, and over the last seven years its been mostly cross country drives, even through COVID years (for emergencies), city driving is limited to errands to malls/stores.

Been hearing/reading frustrating experiences of current diesel car owners with DPF issues across car mfrs, and am happy my old lady (9 years plus) Creta has not given me the need to upgrade/change, and with no resolution of DFP issues in sight, I don't feel like upgrading from my faithful and trouble free diesel mill.

Happy to hear/read ownership stories from 1st/2nd gens Creta users, especially Dieselheads.

Re: Why I chose the Creta

Correct. The new diesel engine cant match the 1.6. It's peppy and at the same time provides decent mileage.

Congratulations on a successful, happy, long-term ownership. I so agree with you on not feeling the need to upgrade. Although, admittedly, I have been in the market looking for a replacement (upgrade) despite the car still going great guns - but no car has really come across as worth the big bucks (except perhaps the 7oo, but that too, is not a major upgrade). Seems like I will be continuing with my 8.5 year old Creta for more - it continues to be the same pleasure that it was in 2016 to drive it.

Thank you, the Hypersonic has some pretty good reviews also. Seems interesting!

Completely agree! My Creta 1.6 diesel still puts a smile on the face when I floor it, and the mileage is not too bad either. The best of both worlds.

Funnily enough, I call her my "old girl" too !

Goodbye to Hyundai Creta: A Farewell After 8 Memorable Years

After eight incredible years together, it’s time to say goodbye to my beloved Hyundai Creta. It wasn’t just about the distance traveled, but the memories made along the way. From road trips to late-night drives, this car has seen it all.

Choosing the Right One:
I considered Maruti Breeza, Fiat Avventura and Ford Ecosport before finalizing on Hyundai Creta.
Breeza I had to reject because at the time it was offered only with Diesel engine. Ford Ecosport I found very cramped at the back and Fiat avventura just because of crossover type look.

A Car That Never Let Me Down:
Over these eight years, my Creta has been incredibly reliable
It’s truly been a peace of mind to own. Apart from the battery dying during the COVID period, I never encountered any issues with it. I took this car to lot of places around Bangalore like Coorg, Wayanad, Ooty, Chikmagalur etc during which some mild off road conditions are encountered and it handled everything with ease. I replaced the tires at 50,000 km, opting for Yokohama all-terrain tires, which have been a great addition.

Modifications in 8 long years:
My creta was the very first generation one but as the second genearation body shape was similar I managed to get second geneartion front bumper fixed in mine. It gave my beloved a facelifted look. I also got the projector headlighs to improve night time visibility. It was a much needed upgrade.

As I say goodbye, I know the Hyundai Creta will continue to have a legacy. It’s a vehicle that marked an important phase in my life and, undoubtedly, in the lives of countless other Creta owners.

Attaching some images to show the beautiful journey I had with this car

Re: Review: Hyundai Creta (1st-gen)

Folks, I am a proud (first) owner of the 2016 Gen 1 Creta petrol manual 1.6E; driven single handedly till date.
Haven't driven it much around compared to the other folks in this thread; I mostly use it for the occasional office commutes and highway drives to my native. Its covered a miserly 31000 kms till date. It still is our primary car, and wifey drives a 2016 i10 grand automatic that we end up using for weekend errands (thanks to the auto shift and the crowded Bangalore Saturdays).
In the last eight years, this car has never given me an issue until the day before yesterday! I was coming home after attending an official dinner, coasting the way home at around 11PM, and the AC was on heating mode (I was feeling chilled in the Bangalore winter). About 5 kms into the ride, between 60 to 70 kmph, suddenly the engine malfunction light popped up. I was not able to understand what just happened; the vehicle would not accelerate any more. I thought this is the limp mode, and hoped to limp back home thinking where to seek help at midnight. But I was wrong; the car steadily kept losing speed and finally I had to pull over to the side of the road where the car came to a standstill, and the engine died out completely. I tried to start again; it cranked but wouldn't retain the idle speed and died down again in like 4 seconds. Though it was dark, alongside the Hosur road leading north from electronic city, I cautiously opened the bonnet to check for the essentials; and I couldn't find anything amiss; no over heating, oil level and coolant level was all fine and the battery was charged. Hopped back to the car, tried starting it one more time but the same result. Called the Hyundai assistance and they rescued us from there and towed us to the Trident dealership at kudlu gate. Next day my service advisor started the car, and it cranked up just like normal; and he couldn't find any issue with the car. I told him I want the car only after a thorough diagnosis and after the root cause is found; and refused to take it back. Today the SA called in to tell that they are still trying to diagnose the issue and not sure why this happened. As for the error codes, he mentioned about a throttle body air passage error that he feels wasn't connected in anyway to this issue.
I hate to take this car back in the current shape as its scares the hell out of me driving it with an unsorted issue under its hood. I am keen to get your views; what could have gone wrong to my mate; and what checks should I be asking the dealership to report back ?

If that particular service station is unable to find the cause, take it to another service station and diagnosis the issue.

The SA must have scanned the car; ask him what error codes appeared during the scan.

Had visited the dealership to take updates. The SA shared this error code, see the attachment. Is anyone familiar with this error code? They are still unable to recreate my stalling complaint and taking it for an extended test drive of 50 Kms today.
While I have been a loyal Trident customer from 2016, the day I bought this machine, I keep wondering if a 8 year old creta would be seen as a liability when I take it to a different dealership. While this is a central dealership that handles a lot of service traffic, the skill factor would be the only reason If I had to opt for a different dealer. The SA and the service manager know me personally and that is the only saving grace for me.

Did the check engine light also disappear the subsequent day without any intervention?

Re: Review: Hyundai Creta (1st-gen)

Hi All,
All of a sudden the head unit is not working. ( Its not powering on). The ASS says, they don't repair this. Does anybody know what could be the reason?. Any reference for a good mechanic in Bangalore?. Also, If I were to replace this, should I go for the actual 1st gen OEM unit ( I think this costs a lot. And its outdated too) or something modern?
I came across this. Is that a good solution? .
