i switch lanes whenever i need to. to find my own space and time. that aside, i leave early to work and its a rather wide road, gives me opp to go at 60-80 if traffic is smooth. the last stretch is at 100-110 for about 2-3km!
Friend, Switching lanes by itself is not a very healthy way of driving and overtaking from the left..is not good.

We are supposedly educated and are to follow some road manners..You wanna speed go to the GQ or maybe the best option would be a track day..where you could explore your cars potential!!

And yes..i've spent a good number of years in Bangalore..but the way traffic was then was great..Now..the city has more vehicles and oneways than roads..

(actually 9:30-10:30 is real peak hour). up the hebbal flyover ramp, and down the outer ring road ramp, and after that i hit 100-110 all the way upto nagawara signal! perhaps this is the only stretch where you can do this today in bangalore. everything else is outright congested to glory.
Ya GeekSrik, u r right, u can surely do 100kmph from hebbal flyover to the nagwara signal at that time.... I generally pass through the peak hour and hence cannot accelerate....

Twice I have banged into other stationary car while reversing . I am 5’6 and sitting in drivers seat . I really get very dishearten while seeing other Maruti 800, santo zip past me …

The remedy for this situation might be

1) Increase the height of drivers seat .. by putting up a pillow.
2) Putting some flag ( either BJP / Congress) on both wheel archs … it will look very strange , but will give me adequate idea of the my cars structure.
3) opting out for parking sensors … I have requested my friend to bring them from USA … but they will arrive only in june end.
4) Stop driving .. employing some driver atleast for some time .. till I get a hang of it …

I really am muffed as I cant understand the reason behind this shape … in Indica at least that stuff ( wheel Arch ) are made up of plastic .. so they can get replaced … but what the use when they are integrated in the body shell .. moreover the wider wheel base does not translate into large space inside .. so why the effort.

Now I have got a 4x4 inch paint peeled off my front door … while reversing .. requesting you guys let me know an estimate …
[SIZE=2]Hey Kool_kid, I think all these are a part and parcel of becoming a good driver. I don’t think most of us are able to see the corners of our cars, At least I cant see them in my cars, you got to get it right on judgment. TO start with, you could follow some simple tips, Keep both the ORVMs open at all times and consider your car to be that broad, now you have some extra room on the sides. And for parking, always drive straight in and out of your parking, Align your car little before you enter your space, this way you'll avoid the corners, pillars or other cars .
Once you have perfected that, here is just a suggestion how you can improve your judgment on the front and rear corners of your car. Secure a Styrofoam pillar in an open space(not frequented by traffic). Now assume that it's a bumper of another car and try your closest cuts, slowly that is without touching the pillar. You could park close to the pillar and check how much distance is left and compare it with your judgment. This way you will have a much better judgment.

headers, the left side is only when there is a right turn on ur lane and your going straight! so you have to necessarily go leftwards. other than that, obviously you are right, absolutely no overtaking from left !

There is an issue with ECU of swift diesel, people have reported similar issue. Search here. Check wth Maruti.

I have a couple of problem
1) In city driving, the car tends to self accelerate for a short distance, do any of you guys have this sort of problem. It usually happens in 2nd gear.
2) When i change to a lower gear, to take a U turn, the engine just stalls. This has happened to me a few times now. But you got to approach at high speeds, shift to second, and there the engine goes dead. That's pretty dangerous.
regarding your first point, i think its a common feature in most of the cars. even I have noticed that my vehicle tends to move without applying accelerator in 2nd gear. it happens both with my swift-D and ikon. I heard from one of my friends that its a technology in engines that causes it. Not sure what is the technology. tried a bit of googling but could not find it :(

7000kms

Hi Friends,

Covered 7200 KM on my DDSi. Its doing great !!!

The vehicle got smoother after the 5000 km service where they claimed to have tuned the engine using the ECM parameters. The mileage is pretty constant.

I touched 160 KMPH in my journey to Chennai, the engine did it with ease. It still had some bhps left to take me further, basically I dint have to floor to get to that speed !

This is a feature in ECU. The torque converter samples the data and pushes the gas whenever required to keep the engine from stopping while moving or climbing uphill. It happens in all gears actually, you have to get used to it. It helps a lot while moving the vehicle from stand still position where you dont have to press the accelerator.

Hmm, this is one problem I got used to living with. I have this problem since day one, but was not successful in reproducing it to the Maruti folks. Let me describe the exact situation when this would occur - When you have the A/c on with blower in 2/3/4th speed and when your engine is in 45% temperature mark where the engine fan might kick in at any time and when you depress your clutch and leave the accelerator when the engine was in 2500+rpm mark and turning the steering is a catalyst to the above conditions.

I discussed it with the service center, they said they havent heard this compliant from anyone else. I suspect the electrical load to be the issue, AC + Blower + Engine Fan + EPS all drain power and I think the voltage falls when the engine suddenly falls from high rpm.

Let me know if you get the problem solved :-)

Vishnu, is the problem present when the A/C is switched off?
It seems to be an issue with most of the Swift-Ds'. Nikhunj's new LDi also has the same problem.

The problem has never occurred to me without the A/c on. The problem seems more to do with the electrical load.

Actually all of us could join together and try approaching some service center so that they would escalate the issue to Maruti. What say?

Finally...

Hi All,

Today I have got my VDi delivered after 112 days of waiting period with 9Km on the ODO.

Thanks to you all (Especially the first few Swift D owners) who have greatly influenced me in choosing this car.

Hope the journey will be good.

Great car

I got to test drive the Swift Diesel today and just loved the experience.

The two things that I wanted to check out for myself were the refinement levels of the engine and the turbo lag (or lack thereof).

The TD car showed about 6500 km on the odometer and when I turned it on, I felt very slight noise and vibration, enough to differentiate it from the petrol version - it is not pindrop silent like the petrol Swift, but still very very silent. I've driven only one other diesel car and comparatively the Swift diesel was extremely silent and refined at idle. But as soon as I started driving the car, I felt that the gap between the petrol and the diesel version became pretty nonexistent, as far as the NVH levels go.

But what about the performance? Well, this is where the diesel really impressed me. With so much being made about the turbo lag, I expected the engine to be relatively unresponsive at low rpm like the other diesel that I'd driven - but to my delight I realized that it is very decent below 2000 rpm (needless to say it takes off once the turbo kicks in). This makes the car a real joy to drive, without necessarily having to stay in the "turbo range" of revs.

I felt this car is a perfect marriage of a great engine and a great chassis, possibly what the petrol Swift could have been if they had put in the M3A engine.

The only sore point for me was the lack of a high end version with airbags, which would have been a shoo-in as a next car!

Thanks,
Amit.
