Its been a long journey since then. Most of the parts are now manufactured in the Chennai plant. As a result, the maintenance cost of Fiesta has come down sharply.
My colleague's Fiesta had Alternator issues just one month outside warranty period (Battery was not charging), and the dealer quoted Rs 25,000 for replacing the Alternator. He opened the Alternator at a local workshop and found that most of the parts inside are from TVS . He finally replaced the condensor (I think) by ordering from TVS for 3000 Rs and fixing it at the local workshop. Alternator seems to be fine ever since. It seems the Alternator as a whole is priced below 10,000 Rs at TVS.
My friend is very reluctant to provide more details as he feels that he is at a risk because this is the only Ford dealer in Trivandrum.

Shaju+Unni,

Back in action.!

Thanks for your acknowledgement.

First of all my sincere thanks to both of you for joining with me for couple of hours to discuss various things including fiesta,iCE etc.
It was a nice meeting and had great time among the 3 bhpians. Ofcourse, as shaju said the time was too short to have more discussions (the saturday afternoon bangalore traffic took almost 2 hours - I will make note of it for future programmes).

A total of 827kms drive.
Since road work was going on in mysore forest road (after kerala border)
and I had to take a deviation and to face very bad roads in the nearby villages, while returning I took a different route i.e via gundlepet, s.bathery. Will give the clear routing in the travel thread.
Thanks

Nairsaab, you never told us about your ICE upgrade plan. What's all this news about amp, sub etc. Are you planning to do a frankmehta by any chance?
+
No I didnt have any plan for upgrading the ICE like Frankmehta, but had an idea of putting just one sub (without changing HU) for which need a ampi also. I have asked Shaju,(since he also did some ice upgradation) if he can help in this matter, but since the time was too short we were not able to do antything and the idea is now postponed.

Guys,

Had some doubts regarding the DTE indication. Wanted to know why is there such a huge difference in the DTE display before the start of the car and while running. Today morning the DTE display showed 200 whereas while running it came down to 167 had I hardly crossed 5-6 kms. Any particular reason why this would be the case or is it normal in Fiestas.
I was also serching in the Fiesta owners thread started by Nair sir regarding the autolocking of the doors but could not find it. Presently rear passenger doors can be opened inspite of driver side door locked by depressing the door knob. I have not yet activated the Driver door opening only feature. Would this help prevent the rear doors opening if the driver side door is locked with central locking. Can somebody help.

DTE- it varies some time and do not consider this as a correct reading for
fuelling. Initially the DTE in my car was not at all correct. However yesterday when I was driving from Bangalore,fuel warning indicator came up and DTE also shown as 76 which means the DTE reading is correct because as per FORD, once the warning light comes, then you will have approximately 80kms to run before the tank totally dry up. So the light came up and DTE shown 76kms shows that DTE working fine. However when we stopped for breakfast the DTE was 65kms but when I started the car again, DTE went upto 77kms? Anyway I did not bother much and within next few kms filled the tank with petrol.

Even if you do autolocking, one can open the door by pulling the door lock lever. However when you activate Driver door alone locking/unlocking, then you need deactivate/activate every time otherwise people sitting in the other seats cannot come out/go in? This function activation always handy only if the car is mostly used by the driver/owner i.e only one
man driving.

I'd be more than happy to join next time. Please do let me know.

@Unni, with all that early morning water intake, you might not be able to hold on till state border!

You can activate the child lock on the rear doors if you dont want them to be opened from the inside.

You have summarised it well Shaju. Next time, lets do it a bit out of B'lore and maybe even look at a stay over if possible.

I have asked the dealer to get me the price quote for the following accessories in advance:

1. Spoiler
2. Sports pedal kit
3. Scuff plates

Waiting for a confirmation call about the price (he will confirm the same with ford and reply)

FE Calculation on my car:

Total run 1795kms
Total fuel filled - 138L
Present balance - about 25Ltrs

So total fuel used 113L for 1795kms means FE 15.88kmpl
(of which 970km 100 A/c - 825km -70% A/C , about 8-10% traffic/city
driving and balance highway).

Seems it may improve further after 1st service?

Man, seems like you consume more H2O fuel than your car. Your daily post avg seems to be more than your FE..come on, stop babysitting your car and take her out

I dont take the car to city where I always find difficult to get a parking (why should I park the car one km away and walk along), and its better going by two wheeler for
shopping purposes. Only I use the car for long drive or when I go out with family.
May be this weekend, there may be another long drive -another 500 + .

Is there a road tax refund policy for not driving on city roads..highways anyway are toll'd;-}

Got a confirmation today that my SXi has been billed and it is on the way..probably on 16th it will be with the dealer. Apart from the (in)famous PDI checklist which is there in the TBHP forum, any checklist you guys have specifically made for Fiesta.

Though the dealer asked me to sign the regn papers during the advance booking pmt, I declined and told them will do a PDI before sending for regn, hence at least am assured they can't proceed on the regn without my signatures.

Please advice/suggest what I need to double-check/confirm before signing on all the papers.

Thanks.

If you think so - I was enjoying the traffic-so many cars and bunch of people were on the road, because at that point my cousin was on the wheel.
Anyway, possibly this sunday I will be in Guruvayur with family and I will be the full time driver! (next week the car will be going for 1st service, so before that I want the car to run atleast another 500/600 kms)

shajufx,

Nair saab has found out a way to keep his FE more than his PE (posting efficiency) - by consuming more highways that cityways;-}

By putting out such useless posts like this one, I am only trying to keep his PE (currently at 11.59) on par with his FE;-}
