Sidewalls prone to damage. Grip levels are great. In my case the tyre was ok but the alloys took the impact. But friends who have been running ps3's on 17" have often been at the receiving end of tyre damage. Be a little extra careful when you push on unfamiliar roads.
In my case its been fine for both alloys and tyres, but I seldom drive around in Bangalore.
When in Bangalore I drive with utmost care as my car is lowered too. It needs a lot of patience and I get a lot of abuses from the guys at the back esp the autos, cabs etc but in the highways esp NH7 , its a different story altogether.
Its been around 15k kms on these tyres and alloys now.
Hey robimahanta - I've seen this car (AS 01 - xxxx) parked in ST Bed road, Koramangala (the small left before Oasis Mall, Sony World Jn.)
What i was worried about happened. Went into a pothole at regular speeds and the PS3's gave away (bulge) and the borbet alloy cracked. Just put back the stock springs and the regular alloys on the car with the B6's now.

Damn dude, sorry to hear that. But if even the alloy cracked then it must've been a big pothole. What pressure were you running?

35psi. I was losing speed everywhere trying to protect the rims and tyres. This impact was a very moderate one. Surprised that it cracked so easily. Just drove around blissfully on stock alloys crashing through everything on the road after the rim change to stock. Feels nice.
35 psi is a little high don't you think? I keep it at 30.

I am running 225/45R17. I keep it high to counter the low profile. recommended is 2.2 bar with moderate load. That's around 32 psi. Anyway, none of that have really helped me. Have lost both tyre and alloy. stupid:

I have the same size in PS3s on my 320d and I fill 30, with 35 it will be pretty stiff.

I am sorry to hear that, I am running 225/45 17 PS3 for almost 15K kms now over all sorts of roads. I keep 33psi nitrogen all around, check it with my own gauge once I fill though. Once I had filled air at a petrol bunk and then checked with my gauge to find it only 25 psi, another time it was 38psi. Thus, I check with my own gauge every time I fill air every 1K kms.No issues whatsoever.
Which Borbet alloys where you using, I heard a guy with a diesel Laura keeping 34psi front and 33psi rear on his rear 17 inchers. I guess the diesel engine with its weight plays a role.

LV 5's. Have you been on the lowering setup for most of that 15k or the lowering springs were put much later? Reason for asking is to see if the stiffer damper spring combo is unforgiving to cause damage to the wheel as most of the hit then is on the wheel and tyre.
I am using the 17 inch alloys with the stiffer and lower setup for the last 15k kms
I am using Bilstein B6 with H&R sport springs, the car is lowererd by approx 30 mm

Exactly the same. H&r lowering springs and bilstien b6. Haven't even done 1000kms with this setup. My rims are not taking it. I only use the Laura for out station trips. No city driving at all in the car. Iam simply amazed that you have been driving on this setup for so long without trouble.

Sorry to hear that. Is your Laura a Tsi or Tdi? Which alloy got damaged ? front/rear? Just to talk to Peter, I guess there maybe some issues with the specific alloy model. Try an escalate the issue with the Borbet guys, I hope you have taken images of the damage.
AFAIK one of Peter's ADV1 18 inch alloys got damaged and he was able to get a free replacement.
technically, if you overfill the tyres (I'm not saying 35 is overfilling, but then again maybe the gauge calibration is incorrect and relevant psi is <35) the alloys take the impact and tend to break. And then again the tyres are quite sensitive to bulges during the first few hundred kms and need to be hardened optimally.
