Hi classicselv, What is the issue with respect to the steering noise? Is it the same problem that has been reported by other members? I spoke to a sales guy from one of the Hyundai showrooms here is Bangalore and he said that so far they haven't received any complaint on the steering problem in the 2011 manufactured i20s.

Its the same story everywhere. Even I have the 2011 Asta and I hear a clattering noise everytime I go over bad roads.

Re: i20 1.4 CRDi Sportz (O) - Initial Ownership Review

The sales guys will try to sell the same story to all prospective customers. But am so surprised that despite this critical problem the car continues to be sold like hot cakes. What I have analyzed is that there is a clear segment gap between a hatchback and a sedan and this gap has been exploited by Hyundai since they are the only players in that segment. My preference is that the rear should accommodate 5 adults. Now, with all the existing hatchbacks, only Indica Vista and Hyundai i20 meet this expectation. Swift, Polo, Punto, & Fabia are too cramped at the back. Between Indica and i20, people would definitely prefer i20 even though its pricey. Hence for someone like me and other customers who want comfort and space, i20 is the only choice.

This is the same reason for which i went for i20.
But the steering noice over bad road is annoying. If you get a chance test drive over a gravel and you can notice it very well, till then you will not notice. From my view, other than this car runs great.

Yup, I shall try driving the car on bumpy roads to witness the issue myself.

Hello Praveen,

I have the similar issue "KAT KAT" noise is while driving the car on bad or hard surface like gravel laid roads. This noise started on my car @ about 2000 Km on the way to Calicut. What you can do is take print of this thread and show it to the rep.

Hello Selva

I could not wait much longer to change the head light bulbs on my cars. Had tough time driving the car in Kerala. So got the bulbs replaced. and got a set of Hella Rallye 3000 & Hella Horns.

Hi Roshan, I think I should seriously do that. But it's very unfortunate that you have started getting this problem as early as 2000 kms. I shall ask the showroom guys to login to team-bhp and check the problem reported by so many i20 customers. In fact I used to get the same noise in my Maruti Zen (1999 model). But ever since 1999 technology has advanced rapidly and the problem shouldn't be occurring now.

I also think Hyundai is expected to launch the i20 facelift during 2012 Delhi auto expo (Jan 7th to 11th 2012) and the upgraded model should atleast contain the fix for this steering problem. Keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks for the pointer.
Can you please share the price and exact Horn model. Do we need to alter the wiring for bulbs and Horn?

To fix Horns we don't need any alteration, Hyundai provides relay by default. Price Rs below 1000 (including fixing). Head light I went for the Hella 100/90 watts with relay this is extra. And for Hella R 3000 kit comes with the relay, so its just fixing it. To fix the horns you will have to remove the front bumper, This is just an heads up.

Will attach the pics tomorrow.

These fellows are shamelessly telling lies!!!

The issue has existed in the car since it was launched. Every year, they claimed that subsequent year's models do not have this issue. Every time, it was proved to be lie.

Unless they change the steering system drastically in the supposed 2012 facelifted model, the same issue will get carried over to that model as well.
