I know of a glitch in my car that caused the fuel tank to deform. Sireesh offered to fix it FoC and immediately secured a replacement fuel tank and related parts. I will be going to tomorrow to get it replaced.

I don't know if this problem is an isolated incident or occurs in all Thar's.

Let me know what is getting fixed in India Garage.

Can you elaborate the problem?? Really surprised to know about the kind of mechanical issues cropping up in the brand new vehicles like these. Wonder how many of the THAR CRde's are totally hassle free on the mechanical front!

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Hi,

Had been to India garage today morning, Service advisor told me some retrofitting job to be done to ensure proper fuel flow, Vacuum was getting created in the tank due to faulty fuel filler cap!!!

It took 1.5 hrs for the job.

The manifold of the fuel entry pipe was replaced, attached is the pic for reference. Thats the only difference i could figure out. No doubt it was FoC.

I am firm believer of recalls, ie its a responsible company that does it. Atleast the company is doing something about the mistakes and owning up. Wish they did not make it in the first place, but at the end of the day engineers are also humans

IMO: 80k is really outrageous for an AC.

Agreed. But this creates doubts about the QC being done on the vehicle. It is a basic and critical part of the vehicle - from the parts bin - i beleive?

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Great that I did not jump on buying the Thar, it certainly pays to wait for atleast a year after new launches from Mahindra. Else be happy to be a guinea pig!

For ~ 8L Rs one is much better off buying a 2nd hand Endeavour or Safari. Gypsy still is the budget 4x4 champ(Jaggu are you there!)

I have officially retired from offroading world, so no more comments

Yes that is what i have been trying to get others to understand. At 6.5 lakh on the road price the softop still rules like a King.

Especially in automobile development, there should be NO assumptions.

No info from mahindar so far
Thar weblink:
Experience superior comfort and convenience with the elegant instrument panel integrated with a blower and heater. Counter the harsh terrains by maximising comfort with an A/c ready cabin ( A/c fitment by customer possible).

I did, however, mention it in the rajnikanth thread...

Considering the Thar has been well received and the sales team are enthused with the response it seems like the logical progression to first do the factory a/c bit and eventually develop a hardtop accessory just like how Jeep does it for their Wranglers/Rubicons

I am assuming this is the way M&M will head, and will be surprised if they don't

Thar desperately needs a V2 or in couple of years its going to be extinct. M&M needs to seriously revamp its policy towards this vehicle if they really want to rise.
