Dear Pratheesh - yes, this is something that only we shall always remember. The full night working of 24 April 2010 in Nasik, then starting from Nasik at 3AM, going directly to Lonavala for the EXAMM and conquering EXAMM is something we shall never forget.

But, most importantly, it is the CONTENT of what we did to MH01V521 that made all the difference. No other Thar vehicle is what MH01V521 was on that day! The performance was shattering, it was there for all to see and experience and I still remember Sharath's words in the post saying - "the Thar just took off". It was meant to take off! .

MH01V521 WAS THE REAL THAR CRDe! . I really wish that that our great CMVR allows it to make it to production some day!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Dear Vikram - I wish I could give you this answer but I cannot. This is the answer everybody is anxiously waiting for because this answer defines the product specification of the real Thar CRDe which upto now is only MH01V521. This answer does not belong to me, it belongs to the company and therefore shall remain as classified information of R&D. I understand your anxiousness and passion in asking but I am sorry, I cannot reply.

However, you can do one thing. Take all M&M vehicle specifications from which Thar CRDe was derived, compare them and study them very thoroughly for what the Thar should have for what it did on those days, you should hit bulls eye answer in around 6 hours. It is not rocket science. Then PM me, it will be interesting to see what you have found! Just for your information, there was also a certain Scorpio 4WD, MH01AC9202. It is there on the forum somewhere. Search for it, find it and read it. . Then compare notes.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

I watched the Thar do really well on the obstacles that day. Very impressive. But Mr. Behram do you mean to say that if the same things were repeated today (obstacles, going over that stone, etc) with an off-the-shelf stock Thar, it would have suffered damages or not come out with flying colors? Just curious.

Regards,
Aditya

Dear Aditya - a production Thar CRDe vehicle driven sensibly shall do almost everything that MH01V521 did on those days, including "going over that spinning stone". .

That said, there are many thngs that prototypes are expected to do, based on their build "dress level". MH01V521 was built to a "dress level", to obtain real world usage simulation results, based on which, project progress decisions are taken. I hope this clarifies. What that dress level was, I cannot disclose.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Mr Behram has given a few hints on this in the Thar crde review thread (jan 7th 2011 at 00.22 hrs).Type MH01V521 in the search box of team bhp and you can read it at your leisure. By the way, there is a rumour that there may be yet another 3%(On Vehicle price) hike (Roughly 18000 Rs for the Thar crde and Rs 12000 for the Thar Di) at the turn of the new year (Source TVS- Cochin)---.Hope they don't increase the price further,as I was hoping to bring home a Toreador red Thar Crde by June 2012.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Went for a test-drive in the Thar for the upteenth time Bangalore today.
Truly impressed except for the shoddy interiors on which volumes have been written.

A simple question, how will the front cab of a Mahindra Maxicab suit the Thar? A slightly raked wind-screen (which is not fold-able in the Thar in any case), the doors are raked (if that is the right word!) inwards, the Bolero/Maxicab doors never rattled to the extent of a 540, fit and finish of the cab is better than the basic structure of the Thar, if the rear portion of the cabin is NOT cut and removed, the security issues of the Thar will be addressed to a certain extent!

I frankly do not mind carrying out these structural modifications on the Thar and retaining the soft-top (probably angled and with large windows like on the Invader).

I suppose this will be a better looking Thar than the original!

Any comments??

Dear cpbopanna - only one comment my good friend. If somebody does, what you suggest, IT WILL NOT LOOK LIKE JEEP. That's all. If it does not look like Jeep, then there is no point in having it, you may as well buy a Bolero and be done with it. By the way, the windshield can be put down in Thar CRDe.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Dear Mr. Dhabhar,

Can you please guide me on how this can be done?
My 95 model MM540 has clamps to hold the wind-shield in place, which are absent in the Thar.
Moreover, the dashboard covers the area completely!
A Maruti Gypsy has the clamps in the edges of the dashboard.

Regards,

Bopanna

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Finally the next revision of Thar seems to be coming with some much needed stuff

Removable top
Air conditioning with heater
Engine immobilizer

I hope they make these available as OE parts via dealers for existing Thar customers.

seats with better back support would have been fantastic. But, way to go Mahindra.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Anything additional to the current version is welcome.
Now it got an Engine Immobilizer which I feel is a must. AC for that "life style" tag. But what about interiors? Any upgrade on that front? Any news about hardtop?

Also when this one will be available in production? Any idea about the pricing?

Heard that production rollout from the end of this month. Pricing is not yet out, but my guess is 6.99L ex-showroom delhi. IIRC current price is around 6.40L.
