Pretty excited... Hope the price increase is not much.
I highly doubt if M&M will introduce collapsible windshield, though indeed that will be cool.

The windshield is already collapsible i think, I kind of remember DB sir saying this in one of the posts. But it might take a lot of effort, guess it can't be done on the fly.

I was talking about the windshield that comes with the Thar DI. With my limited knowledge, I see no disadvantage in bringing it from the Thar DI on to the CRDe. In fact, this should bring the costs down IMO.

@ DB sir / Spike,

1) any particular reason why the Thar CRDe was designed with a windshield different from the Thar DI? I am curious.

2) Is there a possibility to replace the existing CRDe windshield with that of the DI? I checked with my dealer and he said "that's impossible". I am greedy... I want best of both the worlds

Can anyone highlight me the differences between Mahindra engines viz. CRDE, Mhawk & MEagle?

Of course basics like better interiors and a few nigles sorted is an obvious with a new model, however it does seem that the price will go considerably up, perhaps will cross the 8.5L ORP mark... :-(
I checked with my dealer and he told me that DI will not be discontinued. In fact bookings are still open for DI.

Probably the Mahindras were waiting for the Excise Duty on Diesel vehicles to be announced in the budget, before determining the selling price for the 'new' Thar!

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

I remember it was showing 6.4L earlier as the ex-showroom price for KA on their website. I just checked and it now shows 642827. Dont remember whether it was XUV or Socrp website where they stopped showing /showing 'The prices are being updated' on March 16. I guess they have already revised the prices on the website considerging the recent budget.

There may be a refreshed Scorp as well (since I couldnt find any dealer had any stock) One dealer had 2011 4wd vlx in stock, which he said can make it to 2012 vehicle and sell, I smiled, said no thanks

Ok, just confirmed, scorp and xuv websites still showing 'Prices are being updated'

I doubt if the total rise is 2,000. Maybe they'll replace the current one after done with xuv and scorpio, on site and ground both.

Mahindra hasn't updated the price on their website yet. It was 6.42 L even before the budget.

Ok, I may be wrong there! Those who bought (@Bangalore) during last few months can confirm on exact price which is not so important, but waiting for them to reveal for refreshed version.

Guys, this is less than 3920mm (less than 4000mm) does that mean it will not be impacted by budget? or may be least impacted by budget? Though its more than 1500cc but need to understand their definition of the big/large vechicles in budget.

Mahindra Thar CRDe - Bookings closed ?

Hey Guys,

I am making my mind for buying Mahindra Thar for quite some time now. Today i called G.S. Motors in Nerul to enquire about the Thar booking status, price and the expected delivery time. Moreover i was also interested to know the procedure to order Thar 'adventure' version, which i believe is made on order from the Mahindra Mods (Dealer guy told me that DC does the modification on behalf of M&M, which i am not sure about). I was suprised to know that Mahindra Thar CRDe bookings have been stopped by M&M from last 1 month or so. The dealer representative also told me that the reason behind the same is planned modifications in the Thar configuration by M&M and hence the attached cost implications as well. Do any of you guys have information regarding the planned modifications, cost and the attached timelines? Also what is the procedure for buying Adventure version?

Thanks in advance.

As per the rumours floating around, there is a Thar V2 just around the corner. How big the corner is and how long it will take for the new Thar to come around the corner is the big question. There is another thread on this topic.

The Thar Adventure is built by the Mahindra Customization team. Buy your Thar and send it to the customization team in Mumbai.

Thar has an engine >1500cc, so it has tax implications. Don't know how much, but expected around 20-30k on ex-showroom price according to the Sireesh Auto in Bangalore

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

I remember going over a couple other forums for the reivew when Thar launched, apart from T-BHP, I remember there was a forum where Rahul reviewed during some off-roading event (one with BD sir's pic) and This AutomotiveIndia is another one. Today, while I was just going thru it again, I read this in performance section. I guess, I was expecting crusing speed of 100+ on this (I'm yet to get a TD and may not even do 100+ in my TD, since I've not driven Jeeps before).
I read the first page of this review and noticed the mention that 5th gear max out at 140. That means the cruising speed should be less than 100 or even lesser? When we say that this is going to be a very good crosscountry tourer, what will be a safe crusing speed for Thar?

When it comes to performance, Thar is not big daddy on Tarmac, but king on off-roads! Mahindra has concentrated more on the City Drivability and therefore enhanced its driving appeal to greater extent. Thar Manages to take any sharp turns with its pretty light steering. We tried to push Thar until 100kmph from Zero and what we could infer from our Timers are that Thar is not meant for speed. Yup, Thar made 0-100kmph in 17+ seconds. Further burying the gas pedal, we managed to reach top whack speed of 130kmph on the Speedometer. Frankly speaking, Thar's Steering wheel is not well weighted, which translates to “you will not be comfortable driving Thar at any speed greater than 80kmph”. Steering goes ultra light on High speed making the overall drive scarier than ever & you jump up and down even on a medium sized pothole. May be its just to give real off-roading pleasure. Body roll was evidently on the higher side and cornering abilities at any speeds greater than 70kmph is on the riskier side.
