re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

Hello Raj,

One excellent thread for a brilliant car! The thread did set my expectations about Punto ownership.

Yes, I am planning to buy a Punto MJD

I test drove the 90HP yesterday and I did see that the first 2 gears are not scorchers, but since I plan to do more highway miles, I am booking the 90HP version.

I have also test driven the i20 CRDi and the new swift, and I feel that though the Punto lacks the "kick" when turbo cuts in, it scores on drivability, as the turbo lag in the other 2 hatches are much more.

Being a TATA owner for the last 5 years, I know what to expect from TASS/FASS, but I really hope they get better in this area.

I have a question about the stock headlights - are they good for highways? I have upgraded to 130 Watt bulbs on my Indica, but only use them to remind high-beamers to respect other road users.

Thanks,

Hi autocrat, since I drive only in cities, I find the stock headlights + fog lights combo to be more than enough.

Woah Raj Im sure you'll agree that the credit can't be given to either the Shooter or the Angle.......It's ALL ABOUT PUNTO!!!

Looks Stunning man and just the way I wanted my Getz to Look Like. Now, I know whats left to "Be Done" on my Stead. Im not sure if you know, but I got my Getzy Alloys painted to Glossy black with a White lip. Why don't you try something similar. It should not be difficult for any painter to match your Punto colour from the code available by the doors. Since our taste seems to match, you might probably love that look as well !!

I am thinking of sticking with the red lip as I want to paint the brake calipers in red.

re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

Why 90hp feels slow? Is that because to too short 1 & 2nd gearing. I havent driven any diesel but every one say its slow compared to swift.

Regards,
Vijay

1) Gearing - the 1st & 2nd ratio is pathetic. by the time, the punto picks up speed, all the other cars vanish in horizon.

2) Weight - it weighs almost as much as a sedan.

3) Turbo lag - All the action is above 2000 rpm which we rarely see in city traffic.

You mean to say too short gearing coupled with long throw gear shift and clutch it will run like tortoise.

Regards,
Vijay

Nopes, I dont think the gear shift or clutch is too long. maybe because I am used to driving a scorpio or innova.

I think its the above points - gearing, turbo lag & weight.

but if driven in the right way (frequent gearshifts according to rpm), it is not a slow coach.

No tricks. Just flick the indicator stalk up/down after the parking lights are switched on.

Al you need to do is to follow the below steps :

1) Switch off your car. Remove the key from the keyhole.
2) Turn on the park light.
3) Turn on the indicator by moving the light stalk..If you turn on LHS indicator the park light on, only the park lights on the LHS gets turned on.
4) You're done.

I hope this helps.

EDIT: StarrySky answered your query few seconds before I did. Well, I need to learn to type faster on my phone. Sigh

Any plans for RD tuning box, I am hearing that it improves the drive-ability and makes the power more usable. ?

No issues faced till now, except for some minor squeaks & rattles here & there, touch wood.

the engine has opened up a bit maybe, I do notice some better in-gear acceleration. I feel sometimes the turbo lag has reduced by quite an extent. yes, in 3rd gear @ 15 kmph, there is a long lag, but the car pulls cleanly.

no plans yet. my running is in choc-a-block traffic, so it would be practically useless for me.
