Re: YetiBlog® - Greece!

Unabashed love from a reader. On the other hand someone asks if I wear a wig. And if I did, would I tell you?
Anyway, here is what I probably look like. Like a Wookiee. Menacing, but in a strange way, lovable.

Thank you all for the beautiful comments. I appreciate it.

Fira!!

The minute we start walking up the slope of this quaint cliff settlement (it's all nice and touristy too) I see this

YetiBlog® - Greece! (and a wee bit of Germany)-dsc_0240_l.jpg

Ha! Foodery!

Fira seems like a great place to stay. If someone is looking for fun and party and shopping and lively areas AND a great view of the volcano and sunset, Fira looks like the place to stay.
Loads of restaurants and shops, little alleys (almost venetian, if it wasn't for the slopes!)

I peer over the side wall and look at the settlement. It's really amazing. Rich or poor, cafe or luxury hotel or home, they're all about the view. Of the sun, of the sea of the volcano.
And the island is built in such a way that everyone has the view.

Like an entire island devoted to staring at the sun and sea and the volcano!!

Finally we reach a lovely cafe with a beautiful view and settle down.

There's the ship we saw earlier, I will put perspective on it soon. Down there is the old harbour, you can see the little boats go up and down to the ship and around the areas. There is a cable car that goes up and down, you can see the cables of this to the right.

Now you can see the yellow spot I've put there. That was the Panorama cafe you can refer to in the last post I wrote. You can see now what a beautiful crescent this blessed piece of land is. Gorgeous.

Ah beautiful sky -- clear or not, an absolute joy to behold.
Doesn't look like we're going to get much of a sunset today, what with all the dark clouds all in the way. Still, it makes for some lovely photos.

As we order our greek coffees, the sunset washes us in this lovely golden light.
YetiBlog® - Greece! (and a wee bit of Germany)-dsc_0266_l.jpg

And also washes the settlement of Fira in this glow.
YetiBlog® - Greece! (and a wee bit of Germany)-dsc_0257_l.jpg

We sit there in delicious silence, sipping our coffees and eating our cookies as the light goes from evening to dusk

YetiBlog® - Greece! (and a wee bit of Germany)-dsc_0288_l.jpg

...and then the lights start switching on
YetiBlog® - Greece! (and a wee bit of Germany)-dsc_02911_l.jpg

.....and then it's dark.
YetiBlog® - Greece! (and a wee bit of Germany)-dsc_02941_l.jpg

And so ends out beautiful day at Fira.

I hope you enjoyed it too.

Sam,

You are a poet - you see things which us mundane thinkers never bother to see. You bring the beauty in the little things to life, and your posts, they talk to us - they speak with joy. Thanks for bringing a little sunshine into all of our lives

Re: YetiBlog® - Greece!

Thanks so much Sam for sharing your travels and experiences with us..that too in such an engaging manner.

The Med, (especially Italy and Greece) is one place I've dreamt of going for a long long time. In fact your pics just made me realise what I am missing. Planning a trip already.

Cheers!

Re: YetiBlog® - Greece!

The streets look so clean as if the entire town is cleaned and people asked to hide inside their lovely houses for your visit! Just look how elegant and clean each building is.

Compared to our streets they are a complete contrast where we see clothes hanging around, paint chipping of, someone urinating with ample of ricks, cycles, beggars, unruly people, cows and dogs discussing worldly matters right in the center of the road. Here people consider bad construction and encroachment as a norm. Ok I am rantting here but my point is we need to learn from these places that the people do not only depend on government but do their best to ensure that not only their house but streets are clean as well and result is right in front of your eyes. No wonder they do not have what is shown in slumdog millionaire.
SAM do people speak English there that can be easily understood?

No offence but I'm sure you meant "Yeti never disappoints"

Re: YetiBlog® - Greece!

@Champion's post has added a touch of the surreal to this fascinating blog!

I have visited Tunisia which is Mediterannean and shares a few resemblances with some of these pics, but of course Greece is on a different level altogether! I never knew what Santorini was other than a Yanni composition before this. Now itching to go visit!

Re: YetiBlog® - Greece!

And so begins another poor soul's addiction to this concept called the YetiBlog. Now I've got to do what most of the members here seem to have done at some point of time. Spend a couple of hours straight reading up all of Sam's travelogues.

@Sam: Can you sue me for using the word YetiBlog in that sentence above? Can you sue me if I try to mis-interpret the meaning of YetiBlog? Can you?

Thanks for the blog Mr. Kapasi. It was just the fix that I needed.

Re: YetiBlog® - Greece!

Sam, no need to say this but it's a wonderful experience going through your every thread and this one is no exception. Feels like its me who's there and enjoying the serenity.

Anyway, we are not used to this prolonged silence from you. Its been 4 days since you posted. Please keep it coming. Its a stress buster during office hours and I can clearly feel my BP going high for the past couple of days.

Regards,
Anant
