Mt.Olympus, I would suggest you go for the 180 mm tyres. 165 mm tyres are too skinny and have pathetic road grip. You can try MRF ZLO in this size as I have heard some good reviews about this. Yokohama is good but I was not happy with the life of the tyres. My tyres were almost worn out by the time it reached 35000 kms. Bridgestones offer longer life but a harder ride from what I've heard. Michelins have super soft ride but may not have longer life.

lol: Only Maruti can think of this size, no wonder.

True Guys. 190/60 R15 is available in many models. It's just that I think 185 cross section is apt for the Swift and I don't want to upsize. Besides, the stock alloys of the Swift are so inset that the track is even narrower than the L/V variants with steel wheels. Wider rubber on stock alloys will look ridiculous and won't serve much purpose.
Well, to each his own, but the 5.5JX15" alloys can easily take 195/60R15 without looking odd. The difference is 10mm =1 cm in the contact surface, and hardly perceptible. Advantage is like you mentioned, your options will be vast across brands and patterns. I've seen plenty of Swift owners who have been running this upsize on the stock alloys, without any issues, looks or otherwise.

Or I should trade both the stock alloys and tyres for 15" Lenso Samurai and 195/60 R15 tyres. That will help the looks (by a BIG margin) and handling (by increasing the track and contact patch) without ruining the comfort. Now, that's a very good thought. And if my wife hear all this, I think she is going make CMT deliver the XM2 home.
I somehow feel the stock alloys are way better in build strength than aftermarket Lensos :). Unless looks or upsizing (to bigger alloys) are your primary concerns, I would say stick to the stock alloys and go for 195/60R15 in whichever tyre you like - yokohama aVS db or whichever other brand/pattern suits your requirements. Just my opinion.

If you're sticking to the 185/65R15 size, wait and get the XM2+ michelins. I had a delightful experience with them on my Accent. No sidewall issues, no punctures, nothing. Smooth, quiet and cushioned ride which lasted the same for 30,000 km, until I sold the car, they still had tread left for another 10-15k kms. I practically toured the whole of south India on these XM1+ Michelins, and can vouch for them.

Any coimbatoreians here who know where can i get the bridgestone tyres for best price....

Agree completely. I had the XM1+ on our old Swift and it was the perfect tyre. All the accolades that you showered plus grip as well. So, let me scout for XM2 for some more time.

The other tyre which has impressed me in the past is the Potenza GIII (Made in Japan). The ones that they make now are lousy.

Hi,

Planning to upgrade tyres of my swift to 195/60/R15. My car currently runs on stock tyres which have run about 47000kms and will last only for around a couple of thousand more kms.

Just wanted to know if it is enough if I upgrade the tyres to 195/60/R15 and get 15" alloys. Do I need to pay any specific attention to the rim size (5j,5.5j etc, which I do not understand much for now :)), considering I am going to upsize with alloys?

Only thing to note is to ensure that the tyre width should be within the range for the rim width. This shouldn't be an issue in case of 195 width and 15" diameter combination as you can choose anything between 5.5" to 6.5", which covers most of the available products.

'14x5J' indicates that the rim diameter is 14", width is 5" and rim edge is denoted by J. J and JJ profiles are most common profiles for Indian cars. Either can be used in Swift as the OEM steel rims are 5J and OEM alloys are 5.5JJ. I'm yet to see a good explanation mentioning the difference between a 'J' rim and a 'JJ' rim.

For 195/60R15 tyres, the best fit would be 15" X 6J rims. They will also fit on 15" X 5.5J rims (in case you are planning on Swift OEM alloys which are 5.5J), but the perfect size for 195/60R15 is 6J. If you are planning on aftermarket alloys, get 15" X 6J.

Hi Arvind, 195/60/R15 is the best fit for Swift and trust me you will feel the difference. I have done same configuration few months ago and I am very happy with the performance of Micheline Primacy LC, about alloy wheels 6J is the best fit.

purchased michelin xm2 185/70/R14 for my swift zxi 07.
was of the opinion this is the optimum choice taking into consideration a mix of factors like good performace on potholed roads, longetivity, sidewall strength, ride quality etc.
please feel free to comment on my choice.
i choose them over hankook and yokohama.

Hi I completely agree with your take on stock alloys. My SWIFT ZXI 2009, has run through its humble JK tyres. I was looking for an upgrade and am more or less settled on the Michellin XM2's. I do however have a few questions.

1. My stock allows are 14 inches if I am correct. How can one fit the 195/60R15 tyres that you recommend?

2. I like most members on this forum enjoy getting the max out of my car in terms of speed and handling (while being safe). At the same time I live in a place that has fairly bad roads. Are the XM2 tyres a good balance of grip and comfort or are they more comfort tyres?

Thanks a ton in advance :)

Old model Swift ZXi had 14" alloys with 185/70R14 tyres while the new Z variants have 15" alloys with 185/65R15 tyres.

On 14" alloys, you can either stick to 185/70R14 or go for 195/65R14, though only Yokohama A-drives are available in the latter size.

My brother has started a torture test for a set of XM2 2 weeks back, and touchwood so far :)

Like zenren mentioned above, I was recommending this size for the current generation Swifts :D which come with 185/65R15 as OEM size. Like yours, even my 2006 Swift ZXi came with 185/70R14 JK Vectras. :)

XM2 is a good balance of grip, silence and comfort, whilst offering quite a good degree of ruggedness. It is perhaps the best choice available in the market right now. The only downside is they are a bit pricey, but they are absolutely worth the amount they command. I had the XM1+ (previous gen of XM2) on my old Accent and I had tortured them to no end for 30k kms, on all kinds of roads, sometimes there was no road during trips to remote places! I didn't even have a single puncture, forget tyre issues. Go for XM2+ in 185/70R14 or 195/60R14.

Regarding your last question - I wouldn't really call them true-blue comfort tyres. You have the Primacy LC range for that. Yes, they offer comfort to a considerable degree compared to other brands, but XM2+ can be just as rugged as an OEM tyre while also offering all the traditional advantages of a Michelin tyre - silence, cushioned ride, comfort and grip.

Hi which size of xm2's is a better option 195/60 R14 or 195/70 R14 ?

I checked a couple of calculators and the difference from stock Tyres (185/70 R14) was over 2%.

http://www.tyrestore.in/upsizing.htm

do the 195s offer significantly better grip ? Or is the ride too uncomfortable and the speedo error far too much ?

As has been said earlier 195/65 R14 are not available in xm2

Thanks yet again

Are 195/60 R14 a good upgrade ?

I wonder whether they offer better grip or does the ride become too harsh.

On a tyre a upsize calculator that I used I found the difference to be more than 2% over the 185/79 R14.
