Team-BHP - Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Iam also shopping for tyre change for my swift. Today one shop in Thrissur, Kerala offered Yoko A Drive (185/70/R14) for Rs4K each including fitting, balancing and alignment. But I would like to know the price ofMicellen ZM2 also before taking the final call. But on one in Tcr seems to sell Michellen. :(

Just got my Swift\'s tyres changed yesterday at Madhus. Was lucky to meet Nikhil too and what an experience it was.

Recommend Madhus to anyone who\'s looking to change/upgrade their tyres. They have all the brands and one of the best set of equipments for the trade. If you\'re lucky enough to find Nikhil there, rest assured you\'re in good hands and would be bestowed upon with best advice.

Talking about my tyres, got the Michelin XM2, and could feel the difference right away. Really comfortable and steering feels lighter. Other qualities that I read about remain to be seen.

Perhaps this is because I always have only two persons in the car and the above pressures were designed to have the full load - 4/5 persons + luggage. Should I reduce to 29 psi at the rear?

Not sure why are you finding it difficult to source alloys in bangalore .
There are loads of reputed accessory store here in bangalore and i am sure they even might be able to source the particular model that you might want.

Since you are running the stock alloys, what tyre pressures are you maintaining?

I think comfort is no concern if you go for XM2, been loving it since I got them, I am comparing them here to my stock JKs. However, there are enough testaments online about comfort of XM2.

Also, I am yet to see or hear any comment about unreliability of XM2. And talking about safety, they come from Michelin, they're pretty safe I'd say.

Car - 2007 Swift Vxi
Tires - Michelin PLC 195/60 R15
Age - Purchased in Jan '12, must've run around 25K Kms till now.
Issue - Aquaplaning when on the highway

I have been facing this issue for quite some time now. Hit a patch of standing water at around 90ish and there is a momentary loss of control and a little nervous moment when there is no grip. It is momentary and a little tug at the wheel gets the car behaving again.

Maybe I'm not using the correct pressure in these tires? I've observed this happening only on highways when I go out of Mumbai. I keep the pressure at ~36Psi front and ~34Psi rear when I take the car on the highway. In the city I drop it by 2 Psi each and don't have this issue while driving on the roads in the city. But then I stay in Mumbai and travel during peak hours, so never get a chance to go over 60-70 in city.

This could turn out to be a safety issue. Is it because the tires are overinflated? Is it because the tires are aging ? Is it a tire design flaw(highly unlikely though). It is my car? Or should I just slow down to 60-70 when i'm out on the expressway and it's raining :(

Just slow down! Only specialist racing wet tyres will be better!

Reducing the tyre pressure might help you a little bit but the basic issue is that you are driving too fast wehn you know there are standing patches of water!
