Recently I upgraded tyres of my swift zxi to 195/60/14.
The stock one was of JK tyres and upgraded them to Yokohama S-Drive ES100.
The ride quality is much more better than previous one.

I was just confused about the correct tyre pressure? Can anyone please guide what should be ideal tyre pressure? (For 185/60/14 - I used to have 31-32 psi while ideal recommendation is of 29 psi)

Looks like you are from Mumbai. Did you buy your alloys n tyres from tyrex mulund? Those alloys look cool but how about durability??

Upgraded my old set(42600kms old) of Michelin XM1+ with a new set of the same tyres(185/70/R14). Bought from New India Tyres(not to be confused with New Bharath tyres) Trivandrum, at a cost of 4600 per tyre.


Condition of old tyre
The old set which was 42K kms old, still did not have any issues with grip. It still offered phenomenal grip. But the ride comfort was poor and hard. It felt almost equivalent to driving without springs or shocks in the car. Also had some cuts/bruises which also made me feel it was better to change than to take a risk with tyre failure when driving.


New purchase
Thanks to fellow BHPian TOR :thumbs up for the help with tyre selection. Was almost decided on Yokohama A drives, but the price offered by New India Tyres for XM1+ was tempting.

New India Tyres cost:
XM1+ - Rs 4725 - Can give for Rs 4625. Final deal sealed at Rs 4600
A drives - Rs 4400 - Can give for 4300

New Bharath Tyres cost:
XM1+ - Rs 4950 - Can give for Rs 4750
A drives - Rs 4200 - Did not discuss about discount


All these without any offers or gifts. The new tyres were manufactured on 47th week of 2011. Hence relatively new one.

Experience with the new tyre
The last time I upgraded my tyre(from JK Tornado to XM1+), it was when I bought the car, and hence did not notice or bother about the difference it made, since I was still learning to drive.

The tyre upgrade has helped with the ride quality. Now it absorbs the road undulations and saves my bones.

The handling felt somewhat reduced, and getting a tendency that I have to make small corrections with the steering wheel even on straight roads. The alignment and balancing were done 2000kms back, and hence did not bother to do it along with the tyre change. Wondering if it needs to be done now.

Are there any good tyres with the spec 185/65 R15?

I have seen some in Pirelli International website like the CINTURATO P1, P4, P6. Are they suitable for our roads? And are those available here?

Good choice raj84 and good price as well. Give the tyres some distance. Also, always do balancing after mounting a tyre on rims.

Would you mind telling how much, if any, was adjusted for old XM1+s?

Unfortunately the tyre shops are smart here. They did not give any amount for the old tyres. They said I can take it if I want. They are 100% sure we would not keep it, but leave it with them.

Unfortunate, indeed. Usually one gets at least Rs. 100/tire no matter how old and haggard the old ones look. Yours still seem to be in a relatively good condition. In Delhi any tire shop guy would easily adjust 150-200 for them, if not more.

Question for the Gurus,
i recently changed my stock JK's to yoko a-drive 195/60 r14s on my vxi. Now how i got this size when the recommended upgrade is 195/65 r14 is a matter of another discussion.

My question is will this size foul with anything other than the speedo reading/odo reading? i've been reading some places that the wrong size might interfere with handling and more critically braking and this is scaring me.
Will someone please shed some light on this?

Braking and handling both will be a little better with 195 section tyres. Speedo error will be quite a lot, but nothing to worry about. Relax and enjoy your new tyres.

Are you still on stock steel wheels?

Yup, still running on stock rims.

195 is not recommended for the stock steel rims. You can go upto 185 section tyres on them safely. Beyond that is unsafe.

Check the tyrebible for the rim size calculator. The stock steel rim is 5j. You need 5.5j minimum for 195 section tyres.

Guys, need some quick help. I am getting delivery of my Swift ZDi in 2 days. I am in 2 minds whether to upgrade the tyres or run with the stock 185/65 R15..

I need to minimize the tyre noise, without compromising on the handling or grip. Planning to do a lot of highway trips on my car. I have not test-driven the ZDi extensively on the highways, but old-gen VDi stock tyres had terrible road noise and lack of grip at high speeds.

Had upsized my swift petrol's tyres to Yoko's 205/60/R14s. What would be the recommended tyre pressure to maintain?

28 - 32 psi. Whatever gives the best ride and handling.
