You are too late to change the tires.

It would be difficult to get 155/70 Michelins. You'll have search well.
I have Michelin 155/70/R12 in my M800. Paid 2.5K per tire in Nov. last year. But when I inquired 2 weeks back at a tire store they are now 3K per tire.

I think 145/80/R12 is easily available in Michelins. The rate should be the same.

I don't personally recommend them unless you get spacers or you can roll up the fender insides.

Spend some time through this thread.

IMO, the best sizes will be 155/65 R12 or 165/60 R12.

165/60 R12 might need a rim upgrade as well.

Keep us posted on your purchase. Good luck
I'm not sure of this. Some members have used 145/80/R12 without scraping the tires. I have 155/70/R12 in my car but only the rear right scrapes. I changed the shock, no use. Now I've put spacers but some times scrapes when driving at high speed over humps.

Are you sure there is 155/65/R12? I'm not sure.

Thanks,
Jose.

Yes. 155/65 R12 is the rear profile for Tata Nano. I'm not sure if XM1+ is available in this size.

As you already have spacers, go for 155/70 R12

How's this set of tyres running? Did you fit them on Stock steel rims of 4 j width?
Thanks in advance

Has anyone fitted these on an 800 yet? Will post pics as soon as I get my cam back.
Jose
What size of steel Rims did you change to? 4j or 4.5j

Thanks

And now, I'm facing the problem of rear wheel scraping the wheel arches. What is the correct air pressure for this size on M800? I've filled the air at 30 psi. What can be done to solve this?

Jose.

Hi,

I have sold this car in 2010, so I couldn't tell you how far it lasted. But I think the owner is still running them. Here's a pic of how it looked with those tyres on stock rims. It was bulging out a little, steering effort was marginally more when stationary, but the cornering poise, high speed grip level and breaking performance were much better, as I remember. I would have liked to put on alloys as well, but we had to let go of the car due to lack of space.

EDIT: The chrome rim surrounds are after-market. I used to be stopped many times by people interested in knowing where I got them.

Re: Maruti 800 tires

Hi,

My friend has a 4 speed M800 2008 model. Car has done around 40k kms and its time to change the tyres. The current profile is 145/70 R12. We want to go a bit wider but on stock rims. Please suggest the correct upsize which can fit without any hiccups. Our first choice would be Michelins, Yokos and Bridgestone in that order (depends on the size avaiability as well)

Is 155/70 or 155/80 an option? Do we get those sizes?

Thanks.

The correct upsize would be 155/65R12. The difference is a very negligible -0.29%. This is the stock size for Tata Nano rear tyre, so should be available quite easily.

Re: Maruti 800 tires

Thanks to Ram and Humyum and everyone else who provided valuable advice above,
I changed the tyres on my M800 (2003 with about 34K kms) to Michelins XM2 145-80R12s. I can feel the difference, wish I had done this sooner. Better grip and noise levels (before 74db; after 69db as measured by my phone on the same road, same flyover, same time in the morning - you cant say I'm not scientific!)
I dont know if its the alignment or the tyres, but the car seems to be rolling very freely now! Hope to see higher fuel mileage - will report on that as soon as I can confirm.

By the way, no scraping with the upsize and I get good cushioning. YMMV.

Cost me 11400/- for 4 tyres inclusive of balancing, alignment, weights and Nitrogen (the 11400/- includes a rebate of Rs. 600 for 4 old tires) at Tyre Professionals, Basavanagudi (saw recommendations on Team-BHP).

12" 5J Width & 37 Off-Set Alloys: OK for Maruti 800?

Hello All,
This is my first post here. I have bought a second-hand set of 4 “Minilite-style” alloy wheels which have come off a Maruti Omni van. The wheels have the following specs:

Diameter: 12 inch
Width: 5J
Offset: 37

I bought them to fit on my Maruti 800 DX (1993 model). These wheels came fitted with 165/70 R12 and I could only try them on the car without driving on them as the tyres were all punctured and so I could not ensure 100% that I wouldn't have tyre-scraping issues with them . Therefore, I have the following questions for you about these alloys in the hope that you will give me some sound advice:

1) Will I have tyre-scraping problems at the front or rear ? (There seems to be a bigger chance of issues with the rear due to the shape of the rear mudguard - i.e. lower clearance from the top of the tyre to the mudguard’s bottom outer edge than the front one)

2) What tyre size would you recommend I use on them to avoid tyre-scraping issues as I believe that the 165/70 R12 which were on them would definitely scrape as they looked so large even when deflated?

3) Has any member had wheels with the above same specs (especially the 5J width !!) on their Maruti 800 and if “yes”, have they had any issues with them and what tyre size did they use to avoid tyre-scraping issues ?

My current tyres are 155/70 R12 and they are fitted to the standard 12 inch 4J steel rims. I have had no tyre-scraping issues with them either at the back or the front. I was thinking of fitting 155/65 R12 or 165/60 R12 to these alloys that I bought based on what I read in the forums on this site but none of them make mention of them ever using 12 inch alloys of 5J width and an offset of 37 but I would rather wait until I hear from you.

I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks in advance.

Hi folks I've finally manged to locate where my above first post has been moved to by the moderator ! To the above I would like to add the following : Today I noticed that two of the alloys I bought have an offset of 37 while the other two have an offset of 38. Why this is so as I have no idea ? Can you please tell me which two I should put at the back and which two should i put on the front ?

I realize that the 145/80R12 are meant for the Zen VXi and Alto.

Does anybody think that the tire-upsize is technically wrong?

What about insurance and fitness? Will there be any legal problems? I am personally of the opinion that the size is closer to the original cross-ply tyres than the 70 profile ones, but why did Maruti go for them when they switched to radials? (I have a 99 model 800 which came with cross ply tyres, and the optional radials were 145/70.)

re: Maruti 800 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Have to replace all the four tyres of my M800 soon. The current ones are Apollos of the Omni specifications.

Please suggest-

1. The specs (radial) and brand that is recommended and any preferred outlet in Bangalore with the best deal.

2. What about the Chinese tyres. Are they available for 12 inch size for the 800?

re: Maruti 800 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

You can go for 145/80-12 itself or 155/70-12. You get a few options in tubeless radials like Michelin, Bridgestone, etc...

Chinese tyres are available but why do you want to risk your life over a few hundred bucks?
