Here's a quick review post 1002 kms door to door journey clocked on PS4. Unfortunately I did not have time to run in the new tyres we set off the journey with only 40 odd kms clocked in the city with them.

Ride:
I was skeptical when changing from 55 sections to 50 and to my surprise, the ride seem much better with Michelin than it did with Yokos S drive ! Better softer compound maybe? Also, the steering feels a little lighter when parking ( maybe it's MOMO alloys?) Super happy with the ride.

Grip:
While my Yokos were prone to wheel spin (black bolt is a stage 2 car ) when going off the line, I was pleasantly surprised that these tyres would grip so well and minimise the spin. While driving I had both wet, intermediate wet and dry patches the grip was great!

Road Noise:
I couldn't differentiate it between the Yokos and Michelin here. Only the thud sounded a bit more rounded than harsh tone when hit with a sudden pothole at speeds sometimes! At serious speed u do hear them (not screeching) but the hummmm is there just like Yokos.

Tyre wear:
While I ate into my Yokos pairs the first one ( changed right after delivery ) in 29 k, next one in 20k ( they were alright but I change tyres before they completely wear off, given the driving style I won't wanna stretch them to the limit) I hope I can clock 40 k in these and only time will tell. One of the key reasons to upgrade from 15 inch to 16 inch given the lack of choice in the prior.

In short for approx 2k difference in price between Yoko S drive 205/55r15 and Michelin PS4 205/50r16 these tyres are a steal. Would surely recommend them !

225/50 R16 is a fast disappearing size among new performance tyre models from all brands (globally). I don't foresee PS4 coming in the size, as it still hasn't in EU.

We will also be in a similar position once the current Yoko Advan Sports in the same size on our Laura wears out. I think I would have to swap to 17" or look for stickier options in 205/55 R16.

Is it too early to go for a tyre change?

If at all, I need to change, I was thinking of upgrading to Pilot Sport 4 in 205/50 R16 size. Is this the right upgrade? Also, what's the current prevailing rate?

215/50 R16 would be the right upgrade size as the OD remains the same. 😊

The Michelin official website suggests that it is Rs 8,470 per tyre. I'm getting my set some time this week too - upgrading 195/55 R16 to 205/50 R16. The tyre error will be 1.5%, making it a safe upgrade.

In case you have already bought your set, do share your experience with it.

The problem is the stock Apollo Alnac's are rock hard. The lane markers are really earth shattering inside the cabin.

So, will Michelin make a remarkable difference in this aspect?

Update

After much delay, I finally installed the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres on my car. The size is 205/50 R16. The side wall is just 2mm shorter than the older 195/55 R16 tyres and the overall diameter is roughly 8mm lesser. Also, due to an overall 30mm lower rolling radius, the indicated speed would be roughly 1.5% lesser than indicated.



Karan_561 and some others suggested P3STs instead of PS4s, as the latter come with a softer compound, not ideal for daily use and our road conditions. However, having experienced the PS4s in the VW GTI and Octavia RS, I was sold on these.

It's been roughly 2000km since I've had them and the experience has been nothing but delightful. Firstly, these are very quiet and even on concrete roads, tyre noise is almost nonexistent. Then, there's the grip...it's not a secret that the Abarth struggles to put its power down, but thanks to the wider, softer tyres, there's just so much grip on offer, launches are much cleaner now. And on twisty ghat sections, these perform so well and cling onto the road surface so nicely, the Punto's body roll is holding me back from really exploiting the tyres' full potential. Lastly, braking has improved noticeably too.

Not like the earlier Bridgestone tyres were bad (worn out, yes), but the Michelins seem tailor-made for a performance car like the Abarth; really happy to have picked them up:

Super happy to see PS4s launched, I too am planning to change from RFTs to PS4s on my E84 X1. 6 years on and still never a day goes by without experiencing joy with the ultimate driving machine, but the joy is somewhat ruined by the horrible Bangalore roads. These PS4s hopefully provide that perfect balance of handling on the highways and relatively smoother ride within the city.

Yes. I do. It is good. But, I check early in the morning before a long drive.
I also have a full size spare for long drives, or just a puncture kit with me always.

Installed a brand new set of PS4s, thereby finally making the switch from RFT after 1,18,000kms on our 330i. I specifically chose the 225/50ZR17 over the stock 45s, as these have Load index of 98Y over the 94Y that the 45ZR17 has.

Comfort & Ride quality is leaps and bounds over the stock Bridgestone RFTs (when new) and handling has almost zero noticeable differences, neither in highway, nor on the twisty mountainous roads of our town.

Delighted to have the razor-sharp handling of the E90 330i retained whilst improving driving comfort immensely. Regret in not having made this switch years ago.

Maintain about 2 psi higher than what is recommended for the stock RFTs. It will reduce your chances of sidewall damage, retain the handling characteristics of the car same as what it was with RFTs (almost) and you will not really lose much in terms of comfort.
