Better get them checked at some reputed tyre-wala and then take the call. Only distorted tread pattern does not warrant the complete tyre replacement.

No need to change them.

This is a problem with Continental tyres. I had a set of Conti Comfort Contact 5 on my car which had the exact same issue - chips and cracks. Apart from an increased tyre noise I did not see any other impact. I tyres developed cracks at around 30k mark and I ran them for 55k before replacing them.

The tyre shop said there have complaints of such cracks on Continental tyres. I am currently running on UC hoping that they won't develop these cracks and chips.

Re: Continental tyres

I am about to change my car’s tyres to Continentals. My car’s stock size is 205/65 R16 and zeroed in on the UC6. However, while searching for pricing and availability, I came across AX6 at a dealer. While my vehicle (Carens) is not even remotely capable of off roading, I do drive across some horrendous potholed roads often What piqued my interest is Continental’s description of the tyre - a road going tyre capable of some off roading. My current tyres have done 41K in 3 years and have started chipping thanks to the roads I have to take. For this reason, AX6 is very high on my list.

The latest AX6 stock I could find is 3024 while the UC6 was 5024. I am not really comfortable with 8 month old tyres. However, the dealer is assuring me that there will be no issues with the AX6 even if it 8 month old. I visited multiple dealers and while most outright rejected my request for AX6, only 2 dealers were confident that they could source them. One was 2424 and the other was 3024. UC6 on the other hand seems to have many takers and all the dealers had 48-5024 in stock. Is it okay to go with 8 month old tyres? Or should I choose the safer option (UC6)?

If I were in your position with the same vehicle ( Carens ) , I'll choose a highway tyre anyday over any type of cross tyres. Every bit of extra grip the tyre can give in highway speeds and hard braking in wet conditions, I'll take that any day over 'some off roadability' at the expense of grip and comfort. So, the UC6 it's for me anyday for the Carens.

Thanks! Given the sketchy availability of Michelins (at least where I live Primacy ST4 were late 2023/early 2024 made), UC6 was my second-best choice. However, the horrendous road conditions on some stretches I take regularly, and the reinforced side wall claims by Continental made me reconsider AX6. Given the availability, I might go with the UC6. I am not really feeling comfortable with purchasing 8-month-old tyres (just a personal preference).

Re: Continental tyres

4 years and 45K kms later notices a lot chips and cracks on the front of my Yokohoma Blue Earth GT.'s Wanted to have a professional tyre dealer have a look at the tyres and he suggested to change the front two alone. But the dealer did not have Blue Earth GT's. He was saying stock doesn't come for 195/60/R15 anymore. I found it hard to believe because I knew that GT's were made in India and only the initial few batches were imported. But the GT's had exceptional performance and I loved it every bit.

Dealer was pushing for the Earth 1 Max and I was not too comfortable with changing the two tyres alone to a different tread pattern and GT's were more on the softer side and I guess Earth 1's are I guess slightly stiffer and I was about to walk out and he suggested to go for the Conti UC6 and I quickly came on this forum and saw all the good reviews on lower tyre noise and better ride comfort and quickly asked him to install all four tyres to the UC6.

I did not have a lot of time to check the price with nearby dealers due to time constraints and couldn't bargain much either. But as per his quote, the Earth 1s were expensive than the UC6's. Trusted his word and he is a trusted dealer where I live and I have been going to him for almost 20 years now.

All four tyres changed, wheel alignment done and I started to head back home and instantly found the ride to significantly plush and braking was on spot. Felt the rolling resistance slightly to be higher than the Blue Earth GT's. Not sure if this is due to softer compound tyres or my mind is giving me all new tyre vibes.

Re: Continental tyres

Currently driving 2014 Jetta TDI DSG on stock size of 205/55/R16.

Is going for UC6 205/60/R16 okay? There is an increase in sidewall by 10mm.

How much positive/negative difference would be there in terms of below:
1. Pickup
2. Ride Quality
3. Body Roll
4. Mileage

If anyone has done this upgrade or a similar one, please share your inputs. Thanks.

Check the increase in diameter. Ideally within 3%. Less than 2% is better.

Having done 5 years on a set of Continental UC6 in an Ignis with hard suspension, my assessment would be:

Pick-up: little to no change, if running on the recommended tyre pressure.

Ride quality: soft, low noise, slightly plush feel.

Body roll: negligible in Ignis.

Mileage: same or slightly lower. It's not a hard compound tyre meant to save fuel by decreasing rolling resistance. The tyre offers good grip. My theory is tyres are meant for good handling and safety, not for fuel saving as its primary goal.

Notes: wet grip inspires confidence. I have done many drives to Uttarakhand in monsoon. UC6 held very well. One thing to be mindful is UC6 is not a hardy tyre i.e. I got more punctures in a year than the stock rock hard Bridgestone Ecopia.

Re: Continental tyres

Had considered Continental UC6 in 205/55R16 but found it narrower and heavier than Michelin Primacy 4ST, though about 2k cheaper per tyre. Cross-linking from the Virtus tyre thread.

Re: Continental tyres

Thank you for the inputs. I have put the stock size of 205/55/16 Continental UC6 on my Jetta.

My 2015 Swift VXi also has Continental UC6 186/70/14, a slight upsize. I really liked the overall feel of the tire. Hence, wanted to go with UC6.

Re: Continental tyres

Hello good people, I am looking for recommendations for a tyre change on my 2018 Verna, which has completed around 42k Km on OEM tyres (Hankook) in 6.5 years. I am planning to stick to the same size, 195/55 R16, and have shortlisted Continental UC6 and BlueEarth GT AE51. Looking for a comfortable, silent ride with good braking performance. I would request the experts to please recommend the right choice. Thanks

Looks like I spoke too soon. Left rear tyre had low pressure warning yesterday morning. Again leaked in the evening after topping up. I checked today and there was a small screw in the inner edge.

I am not very good at identifying ride comfort, braking distance, cornering grip and other technical parameters. But I do look at how much hassle I face because of a product.

Of all the tyres I've used in the past 30 years, Goodyears, MRF, Ceat, JK, Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental in various cars, but same roads and same driving habits, This set of Continentals seems to be the worst in terms of number of punctures faced. Goodyear Assurance would rank a second, but started giving punctures only after 40k kms of wear. Michelin has been my best experience and I rue my decision to go for Continental to save Rs. 2K per tyre.

I've had Continentals in my previous Ford Figo without any trouble about 12 years back. Guess things have changed now.

Re: Continental tyres

Moved on from GY Assurance TM that finished 40k km. The tyres were hard and with a tread unevenness that were causing a tapping sound.

New Choice of tyre was Continental UC6 195/65 R15 in April 2025 for my Ertiga Zxi. The dealer Sri Balaji Wheel Alignment & Tyres, Jalahalli was able to procure 4 tyres of the same DOT 0725.

Post installation, total silence on the road. In fact now I have an issue with the engine noise! Superior comfort as well with less vibrations inside the car. We did a 6000km trip to HP & UK (good and bad roads) and tyres have good traction and control observed especially while driving on the DME portion in Haryana, Rajasthan & MP. The only downside is that a lot of stones of all sizes get stuck in the grooves and need constant removal.

4. However cornering and handling is no match to even outgoing/5yrs old/~50K Kms run Michelin PS3.

Short term opinion: Given a chance, I would go back to Michelin PS4, even if it is 20% expansive.
After nearly two years and over 16,000 kilometers, with more than 90% of the driving on excellent highways, here’s my thoughts:
  1. Road noise has noticeably increased, making the difference discernible.
  2. Braking performance remains consistently good.
  3. Fuel economy has dropped by 1–2 km/l.
  4. Ride quality is still satisfactory, with no major complaints. For context, I replaced the full suspension on my Jetta about nine months ago.
  5. These are value-for-money tires, with quality above average.

Verdict: If given a choice, I would still prefer Michelin over UC6, even if it costs 20% more. I favor quieter tires.

Re: Continental tyres

Updated Creta's factory provided JK to Continental UC6 of same size, 215 60 R17.
KM 54000.
Age 56 months.
Cost ₹44647 (including alignment and balancing)

I was discouraged by dealer itself to not go to Michelin because of warranty issues (no unconditional warranty) even though he was a Michelin branded dealer. He expected the warranty issues to be sorted by Sep 2025 when Michelin's new plant starts operations. If not for the warranty terms, I was ready to spend that ₹2K extra for Michelin.

Completed around 2000Kms in new tyres. Tyre noise and comfort gets a big upgrade with UC6. Braking is something that I did not feel any better compared to JK, felt more skid/slip compared to earlier times.
