What would be a better for Optra, R15/55/205 or R15/60/205?

The Optra isn't really a "performance" car, so should I stick to 60/205 and get a better ride, or would 55/205 give me significantly better handling?

I'm a bit worried that a lower profile might damage my suspension, or the rims might get screwed on our bombay roads.

@ Speedsatya - The OE size for a S10 is 175/65 R 14.

@ pioneer - Even, if you dont care about the ride quality, after a few days of driving around on 40 profile tyres you will. It will be really stiff! Secondly, 40 profile tyres for our Indian roads is not recommended. You will have to be very very careful so that you dont damage the rims. I dont think its worth it. The safest will be 55 or you can stretch it to 50 profile.

You can comfortably upgrade to 195/55 r15 which will make the car look better and also be close to the original outer diametre of the tyre.

Not a good idea... the ride will be like u are driving a car without suspension..
Even 205 size does alter your OD so best option has been given by 5u3zEr0 or else go for 185/60-14.....

Approximately how much would an upsize of 205/50 /16" with a set of imported alloy rims(5) set me back by?

My requirements from the tyre & alloy rims :
*Affordability, Fuel Efficiency, Appearance & Handling.

Its for a petrol lancer & any other lancer users or members suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

I am going for Swift Vxi (No ABS). Planning to replace 165/80 R14 with 185/70 R14(Zxi) JK tyres.

Wanted your expert comments regarding the JK tyres that Swift sports. Should I go for Potenza GIII instead? Also if JK is fine, does it make sense to exchange them @dealer?

I wanted to go for Alloys but had to put my plans on hold for sometime.

Anyday the GIIIs are better than any JK tyre...

falken's are extremely soft compound tires and get worn very easily and very soon.
from personal experience, i would suggest you not install falken's

Dont even think about JK tyres, there are no way in the league of Potenza GIII. I have a red Swift Vxi running 180/70 R14 Potenza GIIIs. One thing I can tell you, nothing beats these tyres in handling and performance. I feel reassured and surefooted while driving with them.
However I am not happy with the tread design, they are not as good to look at as Goodyear F1 GSD III. But after reading GTOs review on how quickly those tyres detoriate in performance, I would say that GIII make most sense. Unless you can get Yokos which give you best of both worlds!

the alloys would cost you approx anywhere between 20000 to 30000 Rs.
i had installed 195/65/r14 on my esteem, looked really amazing, good handling but lousy on bad roads, the body roll is accentuated and if the road was slightly bad, then the ride quality would suffer.

these were league alloys with falken, cost me about 29000 Rs for a set of 5 alloys and tires

the tires started wearing by 8000 km, bad toe wear and the inner tire scraped the wheel well in case of wheel to wheel lock

Dude, 205/50/16 is a wrong upsize and u'll end up damaging the suspension seriously. The difference in the OD is 8.27%. To prevent brake failure, OD should not differ more than 3%.

How about the following ?

185/70 R14
or
195/65 R14

Im still a few months away from doing any sort of mods so will be doing some research here before I proceed. Could you guide me to a similar discussion or thread dealing with tyre/alloy specifications & costs for the Lancer.

Thanks.

but arent the JK tires that come as OE on the swift ...been specially developed for the swift ...

abt G3's yeah they give goop grip ...and the best thing is that inspite of hitting a pothole at 140...the front tire did tear but the air loss was gradual ... i was able to control the car ..dunno what would have happened had it been a tube type
