yes, I saw the links, and the grille im talking about is that particular car's. Its a homemade job. The original looks like this

yeah karl the grill looks like this. cant make out the difference between the original and home made job. we have some great articians in india who can fabricate almost anything. had a grill made for a bently once.

Hmm...I dont think we are clear. Allow me to illustrate (something I learnt from Ram:p )

This is grille no 1, from the car in question. Note the mesh sheet.

This is grille no 2, touched up with my not-so-artistic hand ;) to depict what the original bars would look like.

got your point karl, but since the car was picked up from an auction maybe the grill was damaged and a wire mesh put in its place. or it was an original wiremeshed grill. different year cars had different grills even though they were of the same model. any light on this one.

There was never a wire meshed grille offered on any Flying or postwar Standard, be it an 8, 9, 10, 12 or 14. Visit Standard Motor Club Home Page for more. And while you're at it, see Indian Standards

was just checking with you karl. will go through the sites. thanks

Hi Carlos ,
I was quite sure the car had a original grill , firstly the gent who owned it was the first owner , an ex-district judge and now a village elder , a person I do not think would indulge in subterfuge secondly the car had been garaged for the laqst 40 years, the old gent used to clean it till he could . But I see that your comments on this forum are correct most of the time . Maybe the grill was restored after an accident in the times past ??

Attached find a photo of a Standard Flying 9 :

Though the standard 8 had a similar grill , but this car was described as a Standard 9 on the registration book.

Mod's Note: Seems like you have a problem with posting photographs. Your previous post also has botched photo links. Please read the article on how to post pictures before you post the next time around.

Im still quite sure about the grille. All flying Standards sported them. Will confirm with the club though.

There was a mustang for sale in cochin along with a savoy. He was asking 2lac fr the savoy and just a little more for the mustang. If im not mistaken, it was a '65 coupe, shell white,6cyl. My dad has some gr8 memories of the car.Belonged to prominent family here. Both were single owner cars, while the savoy was in good shape, the mustang needed a lil work, the owner said about a lac(jus minor stuff). By the time i made my dad agree to it, it was sold!:Frustrati. Dunno wot happened to it now.

Oh! and btw , the prev owner happily drives around in hs new swift!

Also there was an immaculate 50's merc 190D with my dads friend, whose father imported it. he sold it to buy a maruti 800:Shockked: when it came out in the 80's!!!

if you were 14 i dont blame your father for not takeing you seriously. when my brother and me started collecting cars my father thought the both of us had lost our minds. but even my father being extremly fond of cars owned quite a few in his hay days understood us and never stopped us. missed quite a few cars in family discussions.
