Wow, JayD.....lovely Herald! How I wish it wre raining Heralds here as well!

We've had cars as good as this ending up with the scrapwalas & being hacked into bits.....and hardly anyone (barring people like me who were much too young then!) gave a damn bout them then!

@iraghava - congrats for starting this wonderful thread.since so many of you are interested in vintage cars i decided to visit a family friend who has been into restoration of vintage and classics for more than 2 decades.his collection includes 8 mercs (7 of his own),a pontiac,a ford mercury and a vauxhaul.forgot to mention the interesting amphibian vehicle of some italian make.i came to his house armed with my nikon but unfortunately after the first 3 shots my camera's battery got discharged.

i'll go to his house again to take the pics (this time with my camera fully charged ) and post the pics.meanwhile posting the 3 shots right now-

the ford mercury.

This Morris Eight belongs to a noted Kannada Film Director. People in the building tell me that he used to drive it everyday until 2 years ago. The engine is in good condition, car just needs a paint job and some original fittings.

Before pics:

He has now managed to source tyres and some exterior fittings from UK. The interiors will be done up too as part of this restoration. This pic shows the status about two months ago, will get the latest pictures soon. When I last checked, the car was neither with the Mech nor at his home.

An adventurous friend of mine has taken up this project. Lets see if you can guess the car in question. (should be fairly easy for the stalwarts). This car had been lying in a closed garage for almost 25 years till my friend gets this urge to restore it. Took us a full day to get the garage door open and then another to get the muck out before actually being able to see the car.
The original engine is missing. It had a Diesel Perkins 6 so commonly used back then. I have seen a host of Dodge Kingways and Plymouth Savoys with these replacing their original straight six petrol hearts.

Here are a few pics after it was stripped and washed down.

This pic is enough for anyone to guess what car this is.

The rust was scraped away. Now the actual ordeal begins. There are no lights, indicators etc on the car. The bumpers have rusted away to paper. Sourcing these items will be a huge problem and will have to be done from outside the country but then getting them back into the country will be a greater hurdle. He is contemplating buying a similar car abroad and then bringing it down piecemeal.
I have sourced an engine and gearbox from a similar car made by the same company here. Should not be a problem to fit that. Knowing the whims and fancies of my friend, I am sure he will shelve this project. Then we will transfer it to the Rust In Pieces thread......Hopefully not...lets pray to that!!

1958 Buick Special actually but you are right.
I look with wonder how he will achieve it. He has asked for my help and am helping him in all he asks for.

Scooby05's 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne

IMHO, the best looking cars were made in this era. The late 50's and early 60's. The chrome, huge fins and the detailing of American cars was above just flamboyance, it was something else.
I was recently told of a purchase by Scooby05 of yet another Chevy in his enviable stable of cars both luxurious and rare. He has set his sights on classics and already owns an immaculate 1961 Chevrolet Impala photos of which have been posted already and which you must have seen in the past VCCCI rallies too.
Here comes another sibling. Just added to his fleet. Here are some pics. Enjoy

His 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne.

will have to get rid of the Maruti console.

His 1961 Chevrolet Impala

Way to go Scooby. We are waiting for a 59 cat's eye to join your Garage soon.
